GWBush.com will soon return to being a parody site. I'm just too mad right now to try to do anything funny.
In the meantime, visit GWBush.com's recent and prophetic "Puppies or Democracy" piece. (Maybe I gave them the idea...!!!)
Sorry but this Iraq thing is too insane to parody. Doesn't anyone see what they're doing? THEY--Bush, Cheney, et al--DON'T CARE ABOUT IRAQ: THEY'RE ONLY TRYING TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT. They're taking the spotlight away from the corporate scandals in which they're knee-deep. They're taking the spotlight away from the growing mountain of evidence that 9-11 could have been prevented if Bush had not been on vacation for the first 8 months of his presidency. And they're putting the spotlight on yesterday's villain: Saddam Hussein. (By the way: Where's Osama Bin Laden?) The Bush administration can't lose with this strategy. And Saddam, the ham, is always up for attention. There's no good reason to go to war with Iraq. But they can fabricate as many reasons as they need to, and CNN will take them all very seriously. Eventually, the media will grow tired of reporting on a potential war and the real war will have to start. In the last war against Iraq, nearly 500,000 "soldiers" (mostly conscripts) were killed by U.S. bombs. After the war, about a million people (mostly children) died because they did not have access to clean water, simple medicines or medical care (we had destroyed Iraq's entire infrastructure). Now Saddam is abducting a new generation of teenaged soldiers for a new generation of Bush to slaughter. WHAT FUN FOR BOTH OF THEM! Bush gets votes (or so he stupidly thinks -- didn't he watch what happened when his father tried this plan?). And Saddam will finally get to play out the finale of his grand dictator/martyr drama. Sadly, there will be terrible consequences: hundreds of thousands of charred teenaged corpses, chaos in the middle east, a worldwide backlash against the U.S.. Or perhaps worse: to quote Brent Scowcroft: "Armageddon."

Aug. 20-21, 2024 (the times are U.S. Mountain: EST-2, PST+1)

02:24 -- Bring It All Down.
02:41 -- WHAT DO WE EXPECT AFTER 14 MONTHS OF DASCHLE LICKING BUSH'S BOOTS???  WHERE ARE THE LEADERS WHO CAN BRING BACK THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY?????
02:48 -- I REALLY CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!  WWIII here we come....
02:55 -- Maybe if the dems hadn't kept saying "President Bush has done a great job in the war on terror!"  What if they had said, "Bush is losing the war on terror by squandering the surplus on things that have nothing to do with national security." What if they had gone on the offensive. Really, what are these people afriad of?
03:28 -- Don't blame the media. Don't blame the Republicans. Sure as hell don't blame the American people! BLAME THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. IT'S OK TO BE PISSED. Terry McAuliffe is a #^$&ing idiot. Daschle is a complete wuss. And you know they're not even going to draw the right lesson from this. No, instead they're going to decide that they need to pull back even further, to submit even more completely. What the hell are we going to do? The American people have no leaders who represent them: that's why only 40% of register voters turn out.
03:37 -- I really can't believe that we are facing control by these selfish, war mongering, stupid republicans!  How can people vote for them?  Don't they see this is a sham?  That they want to send us to war.  That they don't care that companies lie to us and take our retirement investments. That their attitude toward and dirty tricks over the years have caused the problems we are in overseas.  That George Bush is just using Christianity as a smoke screen - he is an alcoholic cocaine addict for God's sake!  I am so angry and depressed I can't stand it!
03:44 -- McCarville said it well tonight: The Democrats didn't give the people a clear choice, they didn't act like they were fighting for "anything". I hope this is the death knell for the accomodation wing of the DNC and DLC. The Democrats have compromised repeatedly over the last 10 years. The Republicans ask for 200%, and then "compromise" to 100%. The Democratic leadership is beyond "irrelevant", they are traitors to the roots of the Democratic Party. Daschle and Gephardt care more about their run for the 2024 Presidency than they do about their Party, their country, or the future of humanity. Disgusted in Modesto, CA, Jody
03:47 -- BUT HARDLY ANYONE VOTED FOR THEM!  There was only 40% turn out of registered voters. Because of all the independent candidates, significantly less than half of the people who voted, voted Republican. So less than 20% of registered voters voted for the Repugs. That's definitely not a mandate. If the Dems actually stood for the people, then think how many votes they'd pick up from those 60% who didn't vote!
04:25 --

Well.  Soon the Republican dictatorship will begin.  Thank you, Mr. McAuliffe.  I hope you like to hear Clinton blamed for everything.  Down with Emmanuel Goldstein!

ARGH!

04:30 -- <P>It's time for the Dems to stop running stupid centrist candidates who only loose!</P>
<P> </P>
<P>It's time for a good Liberal Candidate!</P>
04:34 -- Can you imagine the judges that Bush will submit now ? I hope every moron who sat on their ass and let this disaster happen has an appreciation for what they just lost. This is a dark age for enlightenment, justice, compassion, and the environment.
04:35 -- I'm just SICK that the Republicans took control of everything.  What the hell happened?!?!  Being in NC we now have to deal with Elizabeth Dole, someone who decided to come back to run since Jesse Helms didn't (thank God).  She hasn't lived here in 40 years but now she KNOWS whats right for NC.  *****Let's see where the Republicans take this.  They don't have the Democrats to blame anything else on now.  They are in control.  Let's see what happenes.  When they completely phuck everything up, who will they blame?  Heaven help us all! *****   Rick/Charlotte/NC
04:37 --

I feel like my country has been taken over by an enemy.  I feel conquered.

04:38 -- There were good Democratic candidates who didn't get enough support. In my own 4th district in Connecticut Chris Shays of "campaign finance reform" fame outspent Democrat Stephanie Sanchez by several hundred thousand dollars. Many state De;mocratic leaders were campaigning for state senate candidates instead of Ms Sanchez who was very outspoken against going to war against Iraq without going through the UN first. Chris Shays who was a CO during the Vietnam War has been a very outspoken advocate in favor of invading Iraq.
04:39 --

Our long exile into darkness has begun. It will be sometime before a Moses comes to lead the people to freedom. But in this tragedy we find an opportunity to re-organize the true American Left. Then, maybe, real change can be affected. Dr. Sun Yat Sin said that the old must first be uprooted before the new will grow. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

04:41 --

If you act from a fearful position, as the Dems have, you will lose. And sadly, when the Dems lose, all of America loses. I don't know why we're so angry - nothing has changed. Had the Dems won, they would still have done all of Bush's bidding anyway. Its just now we have no chance, until the revolution.

04:43 --

Farewell Roe v. Wade.

04:47 --

DEMOCRATIC PARTY NEEDS TO CHANGE THEIR MASSCOT FROM A JACKASS TO A

GELDED-JELLYFISH

(NO BALLS AND CERTAINLY NO SPINE)

04:50 -- The Democratic Party has become irrelevant.  The leadership of the party has betrayed us by continuously refusing to oppose an illegitimate president in his insane drive for power at any cost.  It is time for us to either take the reins  from these spineless hacks and drastically reform our party.....or leave them in the dustbin and form a REAL third party.   I will never, never, never vote for any Democrat again as long as they refuse to act like Democrats.
05:02 -- Don't look now Americans but our ignorance is showing. It was Bush (Dubya) that allowed our country to be attacked by our own planes. He has appointed lobbyist and extremist to key positions in this government, what a sham. He is a CONVICTED CRIMINAL for God's sake! It's worse than George Orwell predicted. D.H. Indiana
05:07 -- At least 2 more years of massive recession and the collapse of the middle class.  When will people wake up and realize that the larger the middle class is, the better the economy does.  WWIII is coming soon.  I can't wait until everyone gets black lung from breathing the air.  Wow, I think I should move to Canada.
05:09 -- Yeah, Daschle, Gephardt, McCauliffe and the so called Democratic Leadership Council need to be put out to pasture. Instead of reminding people what they stood for and how they blocked most of the odious aspects of the Bu$h agenda they let Karl Rove play them like a sqeaky fiddle. Instead of going down fighting for what they're supposed to believe in they tried to pass themselves off as Bu$h Lites. And all of those who caved in on the Iraq war resolution should be shunted aside as well.
05:09 --

UNBELIEVABLE! IS TERRY MCAULIFFE SECRETLY WORKING FOR KARL ROVE?!!! GOD HELP US ALL THROUGH THE COMING HOLOCAUST!

05:09 -- I think it was all over when Democrats in Congress actually voted for the vicious, unconstitutional PATRIOT Act. Is "screwed" an obscenity? I think that is what we all are. If you want to see the ugly future, take a look at Texas, where I am sitting.
05:10 --

THIS is what Gore must have been waiting to see before throwing his hat into the ring.  He might as well bank his money and sit out in 2024 now.  The brainwashed American public has spoken, and it just proves that Bush's smoke-and-mirrors routine has worked.  The public is just as stupid and brain-dead as he is.  Anyone know the lyrics to "O Canada"???  I'm ready to get the hell out of here.

A Bush-Hater in the midst of Bush Country (TX)

05:13 -- I'm mad because the Democrats have not been representing the people's interests over the recent years. And if we were to have more dems doing so, we would've had a democratic win. I don't vote the party, I think that's ignorant, but vote my conscience. If the Democratic party is going to be relevent there must be changes to reflect what people obviously want.
05:22 --

It is time for the unrepresented American citizenry to use the only branch of government left to it: THE STREET.

~ Theo., Managing Editor, Irregular Times

05:23 -- I guess hell finally froze over, pigs learned how fly, and people have become incredibly stupid to buy into the scare tactics that the republicans used on them!!! How could anyone vote for them?? They are war crazed, blood thirsty idiots. This is terrible!!!!!!!!!! It makes me physically sick to just think about what has happened and even more sick to think about what is to come in the future!!!!!!
05:24 -- I have sent messages to the DNC asking them why there's no daily, national "Paul Begala" (or whomever) Show that counters Limbaugh's lies. (Don't tell me there's no $$.) I've asked why they don't hold Shrub's sanctimonious feet to the fire and ask "WWJD?" every chance they get. My cup of disgust runneth over. Now that Wellstone's gone, I'll probably never give another penny to a Democratic politician.
05:32 -- Amazing. I am an American living in Australia, and thought that by now the good citizens of the US would have had a belly full of GW. But, the Democrat party had to stuff it up, and  provided no mandate. Brilliant. GW and his scare mongers won the vote, folks. Next time, we may want to actually try to sell a message to the masses...whaddaya think?
05:36 --

As long as conservatives control the media and it's talking heads, we are screwed, blue'd, and tattoo'd...No matter what Democrats do the media tells only the conservative side and denegrates the liberal side..The Bushies understand that the 1st thing you do to take over a country is to take over the media outlets...and they have done so....Look at any dictatorship and their media.

Sick to my stomach in Michigan

05:37 -- Our Country, as we know it, is OVER.  Here comes WW3.
05:39 --

It's time to say "We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more!"  Then we have to put feet under that statement and take ACTION!

05:39 -- There must be a total purge of the Democratic leadership, now, to allow full two years to heal before the next election. Turn the party over to young black progressives. However, the media is also to blame. Bush would be defeated in a landslide in 2024 if the media stopped editting out his idiotic statements. If they took an active, anti-Bush stance like they did with Clinton, he might even be impeached. The economy, after an initial false burst of "improvement," will continue down the toilet for everyone except the richest 5%. The body bags will arrive, and with them the street demonstrations, and counter-demonstrations.
05:42 -- The Democratic party lacks vision and leadership...we need to combine with the Libertarians and push for fiscally conservative policies while promoting social liberalism.  That is what a true moderate is , and the true American most desires.  I just don't see any new leaders out there.  :>(   Rick in Flori-duh
05:42 -- Bad times... sad times... lies, war(s), plundering of the public wealth, waste and abuse of public resources. Maybe I pack up and move to Canada?
05:44 --

First off - Michigan did vote in a Democrat as Governor. That's OK - but she will get absolutely no support from all the repukes that were also voted in.

I sat up from 2:30am EST on, paging through all the channels looking for one piece of good news.It wasn't there! I heard commentators talking about things like: We can go ahead with OUR war now; We can dismantle Social Security over the next couple of years; We can get rid of 401k's and IRAs - they are holding up too much tax money we can use for the war. etc, etc, etc..

Paul

05:48 -- <P>The only hope I have is that the Repugs are so brazen in their stealing rights, money and power that the American People will kick them out in 2024.   Look what happened after the "Gingrish Revolution", </P>
<P>they consistently lost seats in both houses in every election till now. Maybe the "Silent Majority" (the ones who didn't vote) will get scared and angry enough to use their power!</P>
05:48 -- Let 'em resign.  Gingrich did it in '98 and it helped the R's out.
05:49 -- It's bad enough having to deal with all of George Bush's BS.....but now, I have to put up with another four years with Jeb, too!    TALK ABOUT ANGRY!
05:50 -- People of  faith, for whom the religious right does not speak, check out interfaithalliance.org. Maybe that's a place for some of us to start trying to make some big changes.
05:53 -- The people didn't turn out to vote because they realized the Dems. had nothing to offer. Now we can see that the country loves Bush. God help us, our country is full of dummies..
05:54 -- Ignorance Is Strength War Is Peace Freedom Is Slavery Welcome to the new Amerika
05:55 -- Europeans are very very worried about the outcome of the elections. 99% of us consider the IQ89 cowboy idiot Bu$$h a danger to mankind. There is no decency in the GOP, and the democrats are not tough enough on them. There is a wrong kind of nationalism (you call it patriotism) in the US, like in the 1930's in Germany...  Democrats should be aware of the fact that they have to fight hard for their country. Wish you luck!
05:57 --

You are absolutely right!  Don't we have a leader?  WHAT DO WE DO NOW?  Ever since Florida 2024, I have been telling all Democratic fundraisers that I will not give them money until they begin to fight.  I have called and written my congressman (both my senators are republican), I have spoken out as much as I can but to no avail.  We have to begin to organize, in order to get these craven people out and get leaders in place for next time!

Melba, Arlington VA

06:04 -- How do you think we feel in Florida? We are stuck with do nothing Jeb for 4 more years, and this is sure to give a boost to his loser brother in 2024. Democrats need to unite and get the vote out. Get some candidates that have a platform Americans can unite behind. I sure the economy will be totally in the toilet by 2024, but we need better and stronger eadershp.
06:07 --

It sends the message to the world that we are afraid of terrorism and legitimizes Saddam Hussein.  However, if I were Saddam, I would begin making my way to the bunker right about now.  Look for more statues to be covered, look for the price of oil to go to about $5 a gallon after we kick up war in the Middle East, and tax cuts + missile defense = hey, what happened to all the money for social security?  Democratic leadership, what we need is a leader - someone with a backbone, someone who isn't afraid to tell the people not to be afraid.  Someone clone FDR!!!

06:09 -- 40%? I don't know if I'm still depressed or relieved, just for the sake that 40% is a shitty turnout, I was convinced that the majority of Americans are really brain dead morons when I read the results at 3am Alaska time. Then again, to the 60% that didn't turnout that helped doom us, they can't be a very intelligent popoulation either. Turnout was poor here too.
06:11 --

IF THOSE STUPID LIBERTARIANS,GREEN PARTY & WHAT EVER JESSE VENTURAS PARTY IS, WAKE UP AND GET REAL THE DEMS WOULD OWN THE WHITE HOUSE, CONGRESS & SENATE,THE DLC NEEDS TO PREACH THIS TO THEM!!!!

06:12 --

Carl McCall ran the worst campaign ever. How you can lose 50-33 in a state where the Dems hold a 5-3 enrollment edge is beyond me. It's just goes to show how disorganized the whole Democratic party has become

06:12 -- "Does any one know where the love of God goes?" This line, from "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" keeps on going on in my mind. Bush is right, isn't he: "the evil one is among us"?
06:14 -- I'd better get my ass to ANWR now instead of later. At least it'll be warm there after greenhouse gases are de-regulated.
06:15 -- It's time for Democrats to grow up, accept the job of standing for something, take the licks, stick with positions, fight hard, make no excuses, and give prospective candidates a strong party they can be proud of and willing to represent.  There will be no viable Democratic candidates in 2024 if we don't give them a fair and honest platform along with steady, committed support.  No more lily-livered leaders; no more cardboard cut-out DLC campaign managers.  Back to reality, friends.
06:17 --

Our only hope:

Democrats nominate (draft) John McCain to run as their candidate against Bush in 2024. McCain has been the only voice of reform coming from the Republicans and he is moderate enough to carry the Democratic banner.

Think about it...

06:18 -- Yo, I'm as pissed as anyone, and agree with all the comment about the total lack of leadership and constant boot licking... There is always a silver lining, imho: The Bushkins will run rampant for a couple of years; a REAL DEMOCRAT will surface to lead; and many of the 60% who didn't vote may return to the polls. Hopefully, we won't have 50,000 dead in Iraq (I'm 35+ years in the Navy.) Hopefully, the middle-class and poor won't be sleeping in the streets. Hopefully, we won't have too many right-wingers on the bench (but we are gonna have a ton, just in the next 3-months).
06:20 --

(continued from below...ran past 100-words:)

... Hopefully, we won't destroy our educational system and the environment totally. In the end, the non-voters and those not consumed by the Repug fear-mongering will pick people who can lead with passion, compassion, and world cooperation. Then again, we Americans sure do buy the easy lies in political campaigns without every searching for truth! Alas, it may be a long time before we seen the end of the trend of "Whoever spends the most money wins."  I'm going fishing!

06:21 -- WE NEED OUR BALLS BACK FOR 2024.....N.J. (MY STATE) IS THE ONLY STATE THAT CAME THROUGH FOR THE DEMS.....IT IS A SCARY TIME FOR AMERICA, DEMS NEED TO UNITE FOR '04 AND KICK SOME MAJOR ASS. ANY IDEAS??? EMAIL ME markieg70@hotmail.com..... FU** GEORGIA!!!.
06:22 --

When I saw the news this morning I put my household in a news blackout. My family doesn't deserve any more of my rantings. But that's really not the answer. This is hugely depressing. But give me a week and I'll be back in the fight.

I agree that there has been no leadership, but, having no trust in how this administration achieves its ends, I think all kinds of heinous gerrymandering could be going on beneath the surface. One thing's certain; as long as the Republicans are in charge, we'll never know what's really happening.

Pat Guyton,

Owings, Maryland

06:23 -- Wait a sec. Tom, Dick, and Terry are brilliant strategists! They traded war, Alaskan drilling, right wing judges for life, buried corporate scandal, 2024x CEO salaries, permanent deficits, and more tax cuts for the rich, just so people will be so pissed at Bush in 2024, they'll just *have* to vote the Dems. Gee Golly, honest! Isn't it time we ended P*ssy Politics and FOUGHT?! The GOP in MD??!!
06:25 --

How is it that we in Texas did not end up with Ron Kirk as our senator!? We needed him. Really, really needed him. Now the rest of the court willl continue to see us as back-ass-ward on social issues.

06:26 -- I'm still glad I voted Nader in 2024. And voted Glick (Green) in the NJ Senate race yesterday. Why the outrage now??? The Democrats' complicity has been obvious to some of us since 1993, when Clinton, trashed health care reform (backed NAFTA) and Don't ask Don't tell in (even Goldwater told Bubba to stand up for principles!)  Remember "Don't Stop Thinking about Tomorrow" in '92? What BS! But you still have to blame the American people, too, for wanting a Father Figure instead of a democracy. They could have voted yesterday (which many didn't) if only to preserve our Constitutional system of checks and balances.
06:30 -- This is not a time to reach across the aisle to republicans and be cooperative.  Dems need to unify and remember the core issues that make us liberal and free-thinkers. Stop the in-fighting and fight together, for the common goal of progressing the country.  Don't continue to let republicans regress this country back to the 1950s.  You have 24 months to reorganize.  Do it for your love of country and for the citizens you represent.  Isn't that why you, democrats, went into public service to begin with?!?
06:30 --

Blame it on CLINTON and the Democratic (Non)Leadership Council, who sold the soul of the Democratic Party. In return they got the White House for eight years, but at the cost of betraying the party's progressive traditions and alienating its traditional voter base. And the current disgraceful Democratic "leadership" in Congress has only continued the pattern.

The Dems have to get back to their roots and figure out that they are not going to win elections by being Republican clones. As Harry Truman used to say, "When a Republican runs against a Republican the Republican always wins.

06:36 --

Democratic leadership has been afraid for years to stand for basic Dem principles.  It's time for a major change in Democratic leadership.    Daschle and Gebhardt need to go for starters.

The fight for 2024 begins now.

06:37 -- What'd you expect from a midwesterner who lives in the heart of the Republican power base.  Daschel doesn't understand the members of today's Democratic Party who live on the east and west coasts and in the major cities.  We need to take the initiative and define the issues.  We need to emphasize that the conservatives have bought the major media outlets and are undermining the ability of the public to define the important issues.  Bush has no economic, social, environmental, education, foreign, or other agenda, other than scaring the devil out of people so they fall in line behind him.  Somebody needs to stand up!  Right now!!!
06:37 --

G-d help the state of Florida, because its leadership is taking us to Hell. :'(   :'(   :'(

06:38 --

God help us all.. for we will be in a global war before too long... the rich gets richer..the poor gets poorer.. it has always been this way when the Party of dirty tricks is in office... I get the feeling there as some vote fixing done too.. just as in Florida... We are really in for it now.... I wish I could find an island to go live on.. away from all this mess.... Once I was proud to be an American... now, I'm not so sure... Yes.. I voted Democratic... I have always voted... since I come of age to do so.. I have the right to bitch now....

06:40 -- Progressive need to realize that the Democratic Party is like sweet poison. Like Chomsky has said, "it is the other side of the business party". Nader was right, when they controlled the senate they still gave the nation Judge Thomas!! Grassroot organizing is the future. Let's not be shackled to these murderous sellouts! They will only to hell and destruction! Don't mourn organize!!
06:43 --

First of all, cool user interface! And thanks for the soapbox op!

BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!

We are now in an era of non-governing, to hell with the American people, damn the planet, good old boy non-administration! For all of you that did not vote this election, *&%# YOU!!! and thanks alot!

06:43 -- Occurred to anyone else that since the Dems havne't fought the Republicans that maybe they are with them in their agenda???????  That's all I have been able to figure out since the day that Ashcroft was approved.   Problem is that the Dem leadership has become so fearful we are doubtless looking at 6 more years of this crap.  Deb
06:43 -- How burned to the Dems need to get before they learn? How fucked does the country have to get before the people learn?
06:43 -- Hmmm... can we get ol' Bill Clinton back in there? He may not have been the best, but he got the job done and did it with a little bit of flair. At least he didn't make our country as bad as everyone else is :-)
06:46 -- G-d help us for the next two years.  We need a leader!
06:48 --

There is a phrase from an Incubus song called Make Yourself that just seemed appropriate right now:

"If you let them f*@# you, there will be no fore-play
Rest assured, they'll screw you complete
Til your @$$ is blue and gray"

Well folks, that's what we've let them do. Both parties have screwed us and will continue to do so, UNLESS we manage to take back control of our party. So let's get to it!

We can't let the morons in the Republican Party win.

06:48 --

Now is the time to get involved -- now is the time to start organizing get meaningful candidates to run in the primaries, focus the debate and then get those people elect in 2 years.

06:51 -- I just watched Terry McAullife on C-SPAN and must say: the Democrats in America are on the verge of destruction with that idiot at the helm!!!!!!!!!  He was asked if he was worried about his job, about his position of power with the Democratic Party.  He was SMUG, SMUG, SMUG.  "No, I'm not worried--I'm here for another 2 years," was his reply.  Get going with whatever process is involved in dumping this twerp, Dems, or see your party, the party of immigrant workers and the common people go down the tubes.  GET RID OF MCAULLIFE NOW. HE'S A DISGRACE TO THE PARTY!!
06:52 -- Ya know... When Clinton was elected in 92 I said..ok..here we go..when the GOP swept into power in 94 I said, ok, now they'll fight back..then I waited, and waited and waited and waited... This year, with the death of Paul Wellstone, there is officially no left remaining, there is the right and the far right. So..I'm leaving, I'm currently awaiting final approval of my immigration to Canada (where the right is still to the left of Clinton - or is just unelectible). I'm tired of waiting for the Dems to fight back, I decided awhile back that they won't. This is the best they've got folks. Justin justinsb@sunflower.com
06:53 -- In 1940 Robert Heinlein wrote "If This Goes On" I suggest everyone read it to see what we are facing now. The Democratic Party has become a spinelss pack of jellyfish.
06:53 --

Frankly, we have no one to blame but ourselves.   While the Dems message has been "we're not Republicans," the Republicans have convinced the country that the Emperor really does have clothes on.  It was masterful and look out for:

1 Mass resignations on the Supreme Court followed by nomination of more of the "best candidates" such as Clarence Thomas

2. The Fetus being named as an endangered species

3. Trent Lott getting a new weave job

4. An announcement that tax cuts will cure acne and

5. A war to be declared against Belize - hey, you'all believed that Iraq was gunning for us, just wait, Belize has the secret tropical fruit weapon.

06:54 --

What an incredibly disappointing and disgusting display of so-called democracy. I have chosen bile green for my comment advisedly. These are more desperate times than I thought  two days ago.

Louis from SLC, Utah

06:54 --

Now that they Republicans have the power to do all the great things they want to do, lets hold them accountable.  If they don't bring tax cuts for middle-income familes, while making schools 'better' and winning the 'war on terrorism' and rejuvinating the economy while not running a deficit, then great.  That is what everyone wants, but I think that is near impossible.  Have people forgotten what was promised to them in the late 80's and early 90's?  Pretty much the same thing, but as far as I know it didn't pan out.

Hold these regressive idiot Republicans to what they promise!

Angry and Depressed in Minnesota

06:54 --

Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Well... all I know is I want to see the republicans put forth the legislation they ran on.  I want to see a big ass war (really I don't, I'm a reservist... I HATE friggin wars).  I want to see a balanced budget amendment like the promised as item #1 in 1994.  I want to see a repeal on the assault rifle ban.  I want to see an Amendment banning abortion.  I want to see a 50% tax cut.  Unfortunately, the republicans always run on a platform that they never make good on.  THAT'S a huge part of why they continue to make gains.

06:55 --

Welcome 1984!  Thanks to the wimps in the Democratic party our wonderful country had lost all checks & balances.  They have set the stage for GW's re-election in 2024 and then Democracy will be a thing of the past replaced by Corpocracy and their assigned leadership.   These "chicken hawks" shall lead us into a war with no end, an economy that favors the few, media censorship, a destroyed enviroment and erase slowly but surely our civil rights.  Will sites such as this cease to exist within 3 years?  As my co-worker (a worried Republican) said, "Political Party's are irrelevant, it's the powers that control them that are running the country.  Oil anyone?

06:55 -- What is it going to take to wake people up?  An article in the current "National Geographic" shows just how close to world annihilation we really are ---and we have idiots in our government beating the war drums!   What can we do to get rid of the incompetents?
06:56 --

We are now entering the second McCarthy Era, the Charlie McCarthy Era.  The last time the Republicans controlled both houses, the court and the White House were the prime years for Joe McCarthy and his ilk.

Too bad the Democrats act as if they are all neutered. If they showed any leadership we might not be in this mess-god help us all.

06:58 -- Fact is that for most of this world's people, there is no difference between the Repugnacrats and the Democrans. Democrats are more "bi-partisan" than the Repugnacrats when it comes to the way Amerikkka works with the rest of the planet. Being "bi-partisan" is perverted. Bi partisan, means that you don't stand for a damn thing, it is way worse and way more gross than being bisexual. Being bi-partisan means apologizing for being partisan when trying to celebrate St. Paul of Wellstone. Being bi-partisan means that the truth that Paul was assasinated will never come to light.
06:58 --

Thanks for letting me vent! It's obvious that there will be a lot of complaining in the next few years, everyone will have something to say, but most of them didn't use the power that they rightfully have.

I'm saddened...

I'm sickened...

2004 can't come soon enough!

U.S. Senate
4,424 of 4,425 precincts - 99 percent
x-Jim Talent, GOP 931,059 - 50 percent
Jean Carnahan, Dem (i) 907,658 - 49 percent
Tamara A. Millay, Lib 18,267 - 1 percent
Daniel Romano, Grn 10,448 - 1 percent

( this is in my hometown, the results....SOOO CLOSE!)

06:58 --

Retaking the Senate is the extra length of rope that Bush will hang himself with .  But it is indeed a sad commentary on how inept the Dem Party machine is when they can't even hang onto Paul Wellstone's seat . What a way to squander the legacy of the last principled politician in the land !

07:01 -- My only comfort today is this web site.  It's good to know that there are at least a FEW people out there who can look beyond the bull$hit pandering by the media and see what's really going on.  Depression hardly begins to describe the depths of my feeling this morning.  How can we do something and WAKE PEOPLE UP!!!  What we need is real leadership, but where is it????
07:02 -- The Dem "leadership" is pathetic. Now the Bush Gang can run amuck with its neofascist agenda--starting with wars around the world and the installation of theocracy-promoting "conservative" judges. At least here in Michigan, with the election of Jennifer Granholm as governor, we can now dim the lights on the Amway/Right to Life cabal that has run the state for the past 12 years. But when the hell are the Dems gonna realize that they can't fight the devil in D.C. by carrying his water for him? What a bunch of morons. --gb, E. Lansing, MI
07:03 -- Why is Democratic leadership so conservative?  We need somebody like the late Sen. Wellstone to inspire the public to higher ideals.  Too afraid of offending the "swing" voters in the middle?  Convince them with passion of your vision. This country is being swept up by a conservative agenda that the far right has done a great job marketing.  We could learn from them.
07:03 -- The Democrats had no message.  They caved to the Republicans.  In most arenas, you had to wait for the tag at the end of the TV spot to figure out if the candidate was Democratic or Republican, otherwise you couldn't tell.  Get organized in your local districts!  Take back the party!
07:04 -- This is disgraceful - Bush is hell-bent on continuing his father's quest for Hussein, yet we can't even finish up in Afghanistan and bring our people home.  I'm with the first person who posted - WWIII seems right around the corner.....
07:06 -- It looks like those ***ing Greens are right . . . is there much difference between the two major political parties? Luigibob
07:08 --

It's a damn shame that those two snipers were not at work INSIDE the beltway.

Our millionaire leaders need something to fear from an angry populace.

BRING BACK SDS!!  BRING BACK THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY AND THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND!!!!!!!!!

07:08 -- Now that Bush has his jack-booted thugs in control of the hill, we better clear out our savings. Personally, I'm thinking of starting the paperwork for a move out of the country. At least then when the U.S. is facing UN and EU sanctions, I won't be on the receiving end.
07:09 --

Of course I am angry at the Dems, but I have been that way since Jimmy Carter left office! Lets face it, they sold out 25 years ago to big business.  And we let them. No I dont blame the Dems, I blame a generation of selfish people who did not care enough to even make sure their own kids were properly educated intellectually and morally. Fascist Dictatorship here we come! and as the old Frank Sinatra song goes....we did it our way!  anon in wisconsin

07:09 --

Well, I'm enraged, not angry.  Yes, I blame the Democratic 'party' for this.  Everything you say is true.  Our party deserted us and kissed Bush's ass every hour on the hour.  I blame Limbaugh, the "Christian" Right, and the Democratic Party!

A. Rose

Chicago

07:10 --

Welcome to our dictatorship.  It is frightening to me, the 45 year old mother of a 7 yr old, to see what has happened.  We don't have even a two party system anymore, let alone a three party system.  We have a Christian Coalition, religious right and big business run country.  We might as well not even vote anymore because the Democratic party seems to be just another extension of the Republican pukes.

07:11 -- Greed, violence, and hatred, is the path that Bush has choosen for America. This is what breeds terrorism. It's a sad day for this country.
07:12 -- it is a real shame, i am so saddened by this situation.  when will people wake up from this stupefying slumber?  do you remember sometime ago when a reporter got in trouble for comparing bush to hitler?  maybe more people should do the same, maybe people will start to see the similarities.  maybe it is not too late, maybe the country has not been completely brainwashed yet.  just daydreaming.
07:12 --

This is a great idea for a page.  I listened to Dem. senate candidate Ron Kirk in a radio debate answer every second question with, "I am in agreement with THE PRESIDENT on that issue..."  So why would anyone want to vote for him?  Maybe it's time Democrats caught on that that's what the Greens have been saying.  We have a one-party system.

Gene Franks, Pure Water Gazette, http://www.purewatergazette.net

07:12 -- *sob*
07:13 --

IN TEXAS, I HAVEN'T A CLUE WHAT HAPPENED! There's an old saying that no one ever went broke underestimating public tastes.
Well...I can only assume that , if the voting was not "fixed", that people were using a "use gasoline to put out a fire" theory when they voted.

The Repubs...with their BUSH LEAGUE leader, have royally screwed up the economy and everything else with the limited control they have, so in voting to put more control in their hands....geez...at least I voted for DEMS all the way as did my wife.

-ANGRY IN TEXAS

07:13 -- Thank god, I felt like I was living on an island until I saw this site...oh wait a minute, I do live on an island...but that's not important. What's important is that we don't forget what happened here, and somehow use this to reawaken the real values that the Democratic party is based on, and remember that dissidence is an integral part of democracy, NOT brown-nosing the bush monster. I'm hoping that this will finally provide the shakeup that's required to wake up the opiated masses. Thank you for your continued work at gwbush.com, and for this website, you're a beacon on a cold gray day.
07:13 --      Rajul Majan, esteemed Green Party candidate for governor of Texas said it succinctly last Friday night in his debate at St. Thomas University in Houston with the Libertarian candidate Jeff Diell. The last three words of his closing remarks were "Duck, Drop, and Roll". Obviously he knew he was not going to be elected... May we be taken before the white light descends upon us! Let us pray.
07:15 -- Daschle and Gephardt have GOT TO GO.But I disagree with Zack: Terry Mac should STAY and push the party towards three goals in Congress: CONFRONT, CHALLENGE and DEBUNK. One other thing -- Dems should name Lautenberg Senate minority leader. RUB THE GOP'S NOSE IN IT! It'll bring out the worst in that little racist bitch Trent Lott!
07:15 -- I am SICK of this country's "Leadership" and lack thereof.  I wish there were a better place to live so I could leave this place, but I'd rather try to change it........we need help!  This country sentenced itself to at least 2 more years of conservative fascism.....it's all our fault......we're doomed to war now.
07:15 -- We are having the worse administration since Nixon (if not worse); secrets, hidden agendas, deficits, an economy in the toilet and the loss of civil rights.  Come on Dems - stand up and say these things - stand-up for no war, civil rights, jobs, equality...sad
07:16 -- The American people love a plucky underdog. However they despise a loser; especially a whiny loser. The Democrats will be in the role of one or the other nationally...and if they continue in their present vein, it will be the latter. It's up to them, and more crucial than ever that they find their balls.
07:17 -- Terry McAulliffe is absolutely deluded. This election and his embarrassing display on the "Meet the Press" against Mark Racicot aside, if he thinks that Gore deserves a chance to run again for President in 2024, there is no hope for the Democratic party with him at the helm. How many times has Gore run and NOT won? We're just ASKING for another ass wupping if he's the candidate of choice. Gag. I'm ready to secede....I can't stand being surrounded by so many ignorant republicans and democrats unwilling to vote. God help us.
07:18 -- I am embarrased to be an American.
07:18 -- It's a sad sad day.
07:18 -- AMEN! These days the Democrats are pathetic losers and the Repuglicans are evil pond scum! Ain't it great living in America where you get a choice? BJW
07:19 -- As an American living in England, I am horrified that the Democrats can't serve as a viable opposition to Bush's pre-emptive strike foreign policies, poor record on the environment and dubious oil/business leanings. It is PATHETIC that even as Bush has repeatedly provided opportunites to be taken to task over, the Dems still can't get it together.
07:22 -- What we are all forgetting here is that ultimately the talking head Democratic leaders are simply protecting their financial assets tooFor all their brough ha ha about looking after us (the little guys), they silently stand with the GOP when it comes to making and keeping THEIR own money.  Which is why I believe they have been so wimpy in these times of the GOP loading up on tax rebates to the rich, and other rich-get-richer scemes - like WAR - it serves the pockets of all the in-power Dems too!
07:22 -- <P>Wellstone's "memorial" handed MN to the Republicans. That tasteless Democratic pep rally made the in-state rank & file want to bloody the noses of the national leadership. And Mondale will always be an embarrassment to the party.</P>
<P><FONT face=verdana color=#ff0000 size=5>McAuliffe should do the honorable thing NOW! </FONT></P>
07:22 -- The results of this election: I pledge allegiance to Jesus Christ...
07:24 -- Dems have been shifting more and more to the right, dropped their usual constituents in favor of corporate interests, to the point of being indiscernible from Reps. Dems got no one to blame but themselves. Return to their roots, they may find an audience. Stay the same, and they will be irrelevant.
07:25 -- I am sick and tired of the Democrats trying to out-Republican the Republicans. The "war" is a sham for the oil companies, and they need to call it as such, and not just roll over like a bunch of submissive dogs. Did the Democratic Party die with Paul Wellstone? We are living through the most corrupt government in the past 140 years, but have they called Bush, Cheney, Pitt, Powell Jr. and their ilk on the carpet? Hell no! We have two years to fix this, and by god we need to get started!
07:26 -- Yes, I am angry.  I am angry at the brown-nosing faithful to the $hrub camp.  I am angry at those of us who chose to be too lazy to vote. I am angry at the apathy of the US.
07:27 -- I am in complete agreement with the above comments. Last week I hung up a Canadian flag in my family room because my long-term American citizenship is in jeopardy. This morning I saluted it after hearing all the horrible news. "We the People" have got to do something to save our democracy. I have continued to be soooooo frustrated with the Democratic leadership. Where is their voice? We have to face the fact that everyone in Washington (with a few exceptions--one just died in a plane last week) is for sale. The Dems have proven their inability to fight. The Green Party is our only answer!--Rene' in Oxford, Ohio
07:31 -- So now what folks?  I hate what these spineless so-called Dem leaders have done.  But what do we do now?
07:32 -- Such is life. We Dems have no one to blame but ourselves. As Ralph Nader and Michael Moore have both said, "there is virtually no difference between Repugs and Dems any more". I, for one, am going to start looking a lot harder at the third party candidates in the future. I don't expect to see a third party candidate win a major office in my lifetime but I don't see Repugs or Dems as a valid choice any more.
07:32 --

We must as a party come out of this with a lesson that it is important that all democrats show up to vote in the next election. The party must solidfy its roots in leftist beliefs and fight for that. The time to compromise is not now, because Daschle tried that (thinking it would get everyone elected) and it failed. It doesnt work to agree with the prez on everything, obiviously, because it makes the democratic look like an irrelevant party. I'm saddened that carnahan lost and Mondale losing (AGAIN), heopfully we

07:33 -- This is a dark, dark morning folks. The Democrats cow towed to the Republicans and basically conceeded that the G.O.P. was as capable as rulling as the Demopublicans. I know we all realize the implications here, to choice rights, to the "war on terror", to the economy, etc. etc. etc. We have alot of work before us from this point, rallying people to vote out W. in 2024. The real loosers here, however, are the people of Iran, Iraq, N. Korea, et al. They will know the wrath of the U.S. But wait, the Dems probably would have unleashed hell on them too...oh what is the point.
07:33 -- The dems acted like they didn't even care if they won this round. Talking about the economy and prescription drugs. Afraid to take on the repugs over Iraq. What weapons of mass distruction? You got a 747? THAT's a WMD.
07:34 --

I am OUTRAGED and EMBARRASSED that Elizabeth Dole is our new senator in North Carolina

07:37 --

Let's start the 2024 strategy and campaign now!  The individual races were not landslide victories.  Just as a collective whole we lost.  We can't pull back now.  There are lot's democrat voters out there.  We need a new strategy.

07:37 -- Yeah, I'm mad. But mad doesn't change anything. What are we going to DO about it? We need to develop a mechanism for getting a shared image (agreement) on 5 basic things we can do to change our country. And then we need to recruit candidates that'll do those things, and then we need to VOTE for those candidates. What are those 5 things?
07:38 -- The Democrats have to stop whining about what has happened, after all is said and done it's still our own fault, and get on with it.  Who can we run to stop this?  The national election is only two years away!
07:38 -- I too am so damned depressed. What the hell were they thinking?????Something good HAS to come out of this or I'm moving to Canada. Is it true Americans really do like negative political ads? The key word for congress at this point must be fillabuster.
07:38 --

Will all those Republicans be there to unload the body bags of our sons that Bush and cronies kill?  No and the Democrats are

to blame for the Republicans gaining power to kill our children.  They spent too much too trying to kiss up to Bush instead of reminding people that a drug addict is leading us to war.

Betty Carr

07:39 -- AMEN! GET RID OF DASCHEL AND GEPHART
07:39 -- A pox on all the lazy people who didn't bother to vote, and a pox on the spineless Democratic leadership for not providing leadership that might have inspired the lazy people to get out and vote. I am disgusted - completely disgusted. Rose, fringefolk.com
07:39 -- Having folded on everything but their salarys and perks, the Democratic "leadership" has demonstrated that you can lose big at a time when people are very angry at Republicans. Do Democrats need issues in a world where Social Security may be privatized; the economy is foundering; and a dyslexic President continues to bring humiliation on all of us who reside outside the Beltway? Time for a third party.. why? Because the Democrats don't represent anyone beyond the lobbyists they are tied to. Warren Leming -
07:39 -- HEY! AT LEAST IOWANS CAN BE PROUD! GO HARKIN & VILLSACK!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REST OF YOU? WAKE UP AMERICA!
07:40 -- To hell with JFK, LBJ, Carter, Clinton, and the neoliberal laissez-faire party they created. We need democrats who care about democracy to fight the fascists. With 90% turnout, fighting for the middle is good strategy. With 40% turnout, you have to mobilize the disenfranchised. Since there are by definition no disenfranchised republicans, the democrats can only gain from such mobilization. Until they learn this it will just be more of the same. Nobody votes for a whiner who says "I have no ideas, but I'm not as bad as that other rotten bastard." Well, I did, but only because I'm desperate. Keep fighting!
07:40 --  Where is the opposition leadership? The real leader we've seen is "President Bartlett."  Clinton had vision; Democrats wouldn't support him.  Democrats are afraid to speak out to offer an alternative to W.  We need a thoughtful leader who will speak with meaning and direction. It isn’t Gore.  Eugene McCarthy, Bobby Kennedy, weren't afraid to stand up and talk about issues and challenge the sitting president of their own party.  Isn't there a thoughtful Democrat leader somewhere who is willing to challenge this Republican "sound-byte" president and an in-step GOP Congress?  Someone come forth and be recognized, please!
07:41 --

Unbelievable!!  I don't understand what people are thinking.... or not really thinking.  As someone said to A. Stevenson when he was going up against Eisenhauer.."The thinking people are behind you !!"  to which he replied.."Yes.... but I need a MAJORITY!!!" .  How true today !!

The democratic party had better wake up SOON, before we are all in World War III.

Bruce Reed

07:41 -- Now I know what moderate Afghanis must have felt when the Taliban took over!  There were few dissenting voices from the extreme right-wing agenda.  Now, because of this election and the loss of Wellstone, there will be even fewer.  The democratic leadership has made the party weak, thus I find that they should be held equally responsible for the damage the republicans will do over the next 2 years!!!
07:43 -- Email Daschle! Ask him to step down from his position as Democratic leader and let someone else with a strategy other than "give the President what he wants" take over. Screw the Democratic party, this is for the good of the nation and the world! click here
07:43 -- No surprises from the Democrats for me lately. Been disaffected since '72 (my first Presidential election), and now, can't seem to tell the difference between the Rs & Ds. Any apparent difference is achieved with obfuscation, deceit, and lies. So, I split my vote between the Libertarians and--I can't believe I did it--the Greens here in California. Not that they'd be any more caring, responsible, altruistic, or principled, they'd just be new faces to look at.
07:44 -- It's just so incredibly depressing to realize that over 50% of the voters in this country are STUPID.  I thought we were a country of educated intelligent individuals, not a bunch of stupid rednecks.  How can anyone look at Bush and not see a LIAR, a CHEAT and a CROOK.
07:45 -- We are where the Republicans were in in 1992 - which changed in just 2 years. They won (well, until 2024) by fighting dirty - might be what's necessary to make headway. I came out of the Clinton years too idealistic, thinking that common sense and reasonable compromise and agreeing to disagree was the way to govern. I still think that. But it's NOT the way to get elected. I blame the fundraising. If we can enforce campaign finance reform, we won't be trampled this way again. ARGH!!!! - Dan C., St. Louis, Missouri. A crazy, stupid state. (But Jean shouldn't have run. There should have been another candidate.)
07:45 -- It's not just the Democratic leadership. The American people, as a whole, are just plain stupid.
07:46 -- <P>The worst thing that could have happened was to unleash the Bush War machine, the anti-female, anti-liberal, anti-common sense Republicans.   There is no place in the US that is safe for a person to vent feelings WITHOUT FEAR OF PROSECUTION AND INCARCERATION BY THIS BUNCH OF NAZIS IN WASHINGTON...DON'T KID YOURSELF..THERE IS NO DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP!.  IMAGINE A COUNTRY THAT HAD NO WAR, THAT HAD FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, THAT HAD A UNEMPLOYMENT RATE OF UNDER 3.5, THAT RESPECTED ALL PEOPLE...THE LAND OF PRESIDENT WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON.  AND YET IMAGINE THAT WORLD DESTROYED BY HITLER'S EVIL TWIN !  </P>
07:46 -- It all boils down to simple answers. Americans like the easy solution. For example, solving the economy's problems? Lower taxes. Terrorism? Invade a country or two. Simple answers for simple people - this is how the Republicans win.
07:47 -- I woke up this morning and burst into tears the moment I heard the words "Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott." Our country is royally fucked. Instead of standing up to the unelected President we got a leadership that sucked up to him, and it cost us the whole fucking government. The Dems lost this election the moment they gave Bush approval to attack Iraq. I hope Dick Gephardt and Tom Daschle are happy.
07:47 -- We had no issue, no leader and no passion.  If there isn't a choice between us and them, why not "stay the course"?    We need a complete revolution, throw the bums out!
07:49 --

I don't know about you guys. But I'm stocking up on canned goods and potassium pills and making major improvements to the basement.

Happy 1939. Sieg Heil, y'all. (PS: Is it too late to secede from the Union?)

Signed: Little Grey Cloud

07:49 --

As a lifetime Democrat, I have the following observations:

Never was the DONKEY such an appropriate symbol for a political party.  Is STUPID too strong of a descriptive word for the way this midterm election was handled by the so-called Democratic Party Leadership?  Instead of pounding the right-wing, goose-stepping GOPers on the unifying thems of the failed economy, and the failed War on Terror, and the threat of the privatization of Social Security and Medicare, the idiots at DONKEY HQ rolled over and quit!!

07:50 -- Here in Minnesota, there is no doubt that Wellstone would have kept his seat. Wellstone's support was from regular people—all over the country. There is the message; people all over the country felt like he was their Senator. He was the Senator of all of the people left behind when the Democratic Party moved to the right. The Democrats have to decide if they want to take care of us little folks, or if they want to continue to be the "Republican-Lite" party.
07:50 -- Now at least we know how the Japanese, Italian and German people felt in the late 30's...hell bent for war and AN IMBECILE IN CHARGE!!!!!
07:50 -- Many of us were energized just to make sure what happened wouldn't - Republican control of both houses. I'm amazed the races were as close as they were, given there were hardly any Democratic issues talked about. Connie got booted out of MD, but Jeb won Mondale lost! I'm still shocked. A president who didn't even win the plurality of popular vote was able to essentially sew coattails and pull many, many unworthy Republicans into office. All we can hope is that the Republicans go Contract-With-America-style and voters see the real difference next time it matters - the general in '04. Richard - www.OneTermPresident.com
07:52 --

As tainted as it is, let's hope the Supreme Court stays healthy........however, Dubya will do enough damage with the Federal Courts.....a parade of Clarence Thomas wannabes will commence shortly.  When will the Democrats reclaim with PRIDE it's liberal heritage????  They can't even SAY the word "liberal" except when eulogizing their last proponent of that tradition.....but, noooooo....it's time to lock and load and lob bombs at Iraq.  And for all the Dems who voted for that resolution, shame, shame, shame....did you hear that Hilary?????

07:52 -- you are right on, I'm nearly ashamed to be called a democrat, they follow little Napolean Bush like a bunch of gutless sheep, where is the party of opposition, somebody start up a third party this lifelong democrat is ready to jump ship, Bob Reding
07:52 -- After watching the petulant knobs who represent the Democratic "leadership" (especially runny-eyed Dasshole) the choice became clear to the American people.  Like it or not, the GOP was made the only rational choice, especially when the star Democratic lineup includes the likes of Hillary Clinton and Je$$ie Jackson!  Please!  Look what happened in the newly-redistricted Fifth Congressional District in Connecticut- incumbent Jim Maloney lost to Republican Nancy Johnson of the dissolved Sixth District.  This from Liberal Connecticut!  The American People have had enough!
07:53 --

The party that represents the self-centered, selfish, greedy, paranoid, segment of our country has won an election that started as a fluke when the present adminstration was appointed by the supreme court two years ago.  Now we will see right wing, conservative judges appointed to courts all over the country.  We will see more rights taken away.  We will see gains made over the past 30 years stripped away by people who care more about the amount of money that they make, the cars they drive, the huge houses they build than they care about the rest of the world.

07:54 -- ..I will be looking at immigrating to Germany to live, effectively giving up on this right wing run country
07:54 -- I'm willing to bet is you add the number the votes cast for democrats vs. number of votes cast for Republicans, the Democrats might actually come ahead, but thanks to Gerrymandering, the Repugs still gain control.
07:55 --

No doubt the Democrats did a poor job. There are too many Republicans in the Democratic stable. The Democrats leaders have failed to lead, and have allowed, nay, begged to be trodden by bush and his band.

But, there is also blame to be laid on the media, who has never taken  GW to task as it did President Clinton. If Clinton passed gas, the entire media  brought it to the attention of America, pointing out the dire consequences of the act. bush strangles the entire world, and the media either ignores it, or praises his courage.

(continued)

07:55 --

The surplus is gone, the economy in the toilet, unemployment is high, retirement plans shattered, we suffered our first major attach since 1941 after the administration announced they
weren't going to be involved in the Middle East (sounds like, Sharon, the
butcher of Lebanon, will have free rein), we spend a year mucking about in
Afghanistan and accomplish nothing, we alienate the entire world, may well
attack a country whose leadership is neither ideological or Religious
zealots and threaten us in no way -- yet every Dem who lost has "stood with
the President".

First, declare Lieberman a Republican;  then, GIVE THEM HELL.

07:56 -- I'm  not angry, I'm in shock.  But I can't blame the DNC for this one.  I blame myself.  And you.  How many of you volunteered to work  a campaign?  If we are to survive as a republic WE need to be the ones to take the counrty back.  WE are the grass-roots that politicans always talk about but never listen to.  There are more registered Democrats than Republicans.  WE are the ones that have to do it, because those at the top have become too smug, self-satisfied, and part of the 'inside the beltway' establishment.  The time to start the revolution is NOW!
07:57 -- Well, so much for all that voting, eh? I actually cried after I voted. On my walk back home, I just started crying. I don't know exactly why but I felt like I really participated this time. I was excited about voting. But then as I watched all the results come in, I was like, well that was useful. Now I can really start crying.
07:58 -- Clearly the Democratic party is morally, emotionally, and intellectually bankrupt.  Voters this election were offered a choice between bad ideas tarted up well (the GOP agenda) and no ideas whatsoever (the Democratic agenda, whatever that was). Alas the Democratic party will last as long as they're willing to collaborate with the GOP in squelching independent parties and ideas.  We should send all complaints to the DNC while we're at it, by the way.
07:58 --

You guys think it looks bad in America... you should see the view from down here in Texas.  Never have I seen Democrats more humiliated.  With the senate and house blown, here and nationally, I don't know what we're going to do to stop the Republican Monster from eating us all alive.  Maybe if any of the candidates had the guts to STAND for something, like maybe a real ISSUE, we might not be in this mess.

07:59 -- It's time for some reorganization in the Democratic Party.  Wipe the slate clean and start fresh.  Focus on issues instead of blame.  Be on the offensive instead of the defensive.  Get people interested, get people fired up about being FOR something instead of AGAINST stuff all the time.  I'm extremely disappointed and angry at the lackadaisical attitude Democrats have today.  We can't just have labor, the teachers, etc. speak for us.  We've got to speak up for ourselves!  We need to bond together and unify!!!  Get with the freakin' program DEMS!!!
07:59 -- How the Dems shot themselves in the feet:  (1) opposing the homeland security bill; (2) making a stink about the arrest of the Haitians who invaded Miami; (3) NOT raising gun control issues in the wake of or during the sniper incident; (4) NOT raising the specter of control of the US Supreme Court by some trogoldyte Rhenquist/Scalia/Thomas clone; (5) NOT raising issues about the failure of the GOP to regulate corporate fraud; (6) and NOT focusing on the influence of the religious right on such issues as stem-cell research and promoting family planning / safe sex in the third world.
07:59 -- It hurt to vote for "Republicrats" on the Dem ticket. But Michael Moore and others killed the chances for PEACE when they campaigned to OUST any Democrat who voted WITH BUSH on the Iraq resolution. YES, they did the wrong thing but some explained themselves, and it was better to have THEM in office than the creeps we'll have now. It was wrong for Liberals to split the vote this time as it was in 2024, but it takes a while to learn a lesson. Now the world we know may not last long enough to teach us this time. Barbara
08:00 -- AMEN!!!!!!!!!
08:01 -- But did they really "win" all those races?  Can someone investigate the company that makes the electronic voting machines?  Isn't one such company whose machines were used in Florida yesterday, connected to the GOP?  It would be fairly easy to write self-erasing code that could alter the actual tabulation figures and would be clocked to election day, undetectable the day after.  I do not put this type of fraud beyond the GOP.  They are capable of far worse and perhaps they have done far worse recently.
08:01 -- Farewell also to the Alaskan Wildlife refuge.
08:02 --

Everywhere I look around me, I see apathy.  I see Democrats, Independents, and Greens fighting amongst themselves, rather than banding together for a change.  And above all, I see fear.  For the past year, I have felt afraid to speak my own mind - and yet I have spoken it.  I have met with derision from those who surround me, though they call themselves progressives.  The war, they say.  Let Bush win this war, and then we can change things.  The Democratic Leadership failed us.  But we let them.

08:02 --

The Democratic Party "leadership" lacks the testicular fortitude to tell the American people what this party stands for - or used to stand for. By letting the Rs define the issues (Iraq bad, econony okay) we abandoned the moral high ground and did not carry a message to the electorate. Now there areno longer two parties, only two brances of the Capitalist Party.

I say "Go Green"! If the country lasts long enough for that groundswell, then America will return to a multi-party country.

Richard Rudy

Apex, NC

08:02 -- I still believe in the ideals of the Democratic Party, and am greatly disappointed with this latest pendulum swing to the right. Yes, the Democratic leadership is weak; yes, they have kowtowed to Bush; and yes, they've consistently eroded the core values upon which the party was founded. But here's the thing: we live in a conservative country, period. Call it cynicism, call it selfishness, call it plain old fear, but the majority of people in this country care about one thing above all else: themselves. Absent a sea change of values among individuals -- and how likely is that? -- nothing will measurably change the current state of affairs.
08:02 --
Once again, the republicans successfully painted the democrats as being weak against our enemies and profligate spenders on those lazy welfare mothers who still have middle America up in arms.

Here's a test you can use to guess whether someone is a republican or a democrat: Ask them whether society is basically healthy and going in the right direction, or is fundamentally sick and things were better in the past.  I'll bet you a dime that the dems will agree with the former, and the reps will agree with the latter.

08:03 --

When the Repugnitans told us to 'We have stolen the election and there is nothing you can do about it, now get over it, losers' and when they declared a war on no one in particular, and when they said 'You must allow us to take rights away from US citizens, or you are unAmericans and traitors' we said 'Do what you want, just please don't hurt us.'  What happened to our spine?  What happened to 'Give me Liberty or give me death'?  We have no one to blame but ourselves.

08:03 --

The Republicans didn't win last night, Democracy lost!!!

Today, November 6, 2024 the "real" campaign begins!

08:03 -- I am glad to see the reference to Emmanuel Goldstein, because we are living in an age of perpetual war, suppression of all dissent, and imprisonment without trial. The Ministry of Truth of the Repugnican party would like us to believe that the recession is over, but with more than 200,000 jobs lost since the coup of November 2024, this is nothing but Newspeak.
08:04 -- America, we have no to blame but ourselves....the Apocolypse begins now.
08:04 --
The democratic leadership needs to focus its message on its historical strength, making life better for everyday Americans, not just for big business.  And they should also find ways to do it in a fiscally responsible manner.  Also, they should point out the ficscal irresponsibity of the republicans' defense build-up.  Being able to fight full-fledged wars in three theaters simultaneously is simply unnecessary.  Expect this congress to appropriate more for defense than the pentagon asks for again this year.  Couldn't that money be more wisely spent - in the home district - making people's lives better?

08:04 -- Zack, you are 100% right about the Democratic Leadership (if it can be called that).   Why vote for a wannabe Republican when you can vote for a real one?  I hope the Dems will understand now that they need to return to their core principles.  They also need a huge dose of political courage, which has been completely lacking.  I saw the leader of the Democratic Party on TV this AM trying to say it wasn't all bad because we won some governorships!  If they are going to be spouting this kind of drivel, they might as well not run a candidate in '04!
08:04 -- The new voting machines in Florida, Georgia and many other states are being manufactured by none other than JEB BUSH'S GOP friends. The voting machines are rigged. Check out Greg Palast's investigation on this one. Additionally: THE DEMOCRATS HAVE SOLD OUT THIS COUNTRY. I'M GLAD I'M REGISTERED GREEN, BUT I DID VOTE DEMOCRATIC. I will never do that again. GOD HELP US....NO...WE MUST HELP OURSELVES. GET OUT IN THE STREETS AND PROTEST THIS INSANE WAR....GET PISSED OFF GET OFF YOUR ASS AND DO SOMETHING. IT IS IN OUR HANDS NOW TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY.
08:07 -- Why do Democrats think they can act like republicans and still win? And here is GA the governor and Dem senator (a war hero, Max Cleland) lost because they failed to support a true American, Cynthia McKinney, in the primary. She lost and her base stayed home yesterday.
08:07 -- The progressives lack marketing skills. Whether it's true or not, the progressive community has an reputation of being unprofessional hippy slackers. Nobody voted for the hippy in high school, and that's where the nation's mentality still is. So if the progressive movement got a sort of makeover, it could be done right. If a charismatic & eloquent person spoke about the real issues and had solutions like Aronowitz, people would pay attention. Sounds trite, but that's how people are gonna pay attention. Aronowitz stood no chance in NY. It's sad because I think his platform was rock fuXXing solid.
08:10 -- The Dems never had a chance. Their "centrist" candidates were vilified, lied about, and set-up by the corporate-owned media. Imagine what would happen if they ran "progressive" candidates. Face up to it, we live in a country dominated by the media. It was fun when there was a genuine mix of minds on the airwaves; but now there is one voice, talking incessantly, defining the moments and the outcomes. We can't beat it. We have to leave it. Turn off your television. Cancel your newspaper; it's full of crap. Use the Internet. Become an organizer. It is truly the only hope.
08:10 -- I've been reading a book about the violence in Colombia.  It began about 100 years ago when the two political parties moved to the center right and fossilized, refusing to allow third-party candidates any say in the government.   The two parties also supported the wealthy elite and the landowners, against "the little people."  When the people got fed up, they turned to violence, which hasn't ceased now for 100 years.  It's something the two US parties need to wake up to.  When will the REAL Americans rebel?  Will we have an Argentinian economy and a Colombian political system?
08:11 --

unabashed wellstonian liberalism is what's needed, earnest, passionate, open-eyed, open-hearted commitment to ameliorate the lives of the least fortunate, to dedicate effort and time and resources to improving the lives and education and health and hope of children, to work in peace with fellow beings around the world.......playing a weak sometimes discordant but mostly in (echoing) tune second-fiddle to the republican party hardly creates stirring music...the tune of generosity, commitment and kindness is america's tune, we simply need (someone, please someone) to sing it!!!!!!

08:12 --

I don't want to hear a single word of complaining from the 60% of the American population that couldn't be bothered to get off their collective asses and cast their vote.  This country is going to be run into the ground - and the lazy 60% are going to be the first to be surprised when their children are sent to die for Oil in Iraq.  It makes me want to move to Canada.

Frustrated in Ohio!

08:12 -- How can the voting electorate can be so abysmally racist/ignorant/hate-filled as to consciously vote Republican.  How can we elect a Republican Senate, House, and President?  Are we that far gone? Are we that manipulable by the corporate media? This country is beginning to react to demographic changes in the population mix, much like neo-Afrikaaners, and the GOP is now the laager/Afrikaans party for all those solid patriotic types who would like to see nothing better than a return to a country where everyone looked like Ozzie and Harriet.  This election turned the clock back to 1928.  And soon we will have a Supreme Court that will look like 1928 also.
08:13 --

Like most of us, I am just reeling with frustration this morning!  The Democratic party is going to have to at least "play" election games to win--it's a shame we know that and they don't.  As much as I love with Gore stands for, there is no way he can win...he is tooo boring.  Nowadays, right or wrong, we need "showman/womanship" to win.  We need a smart person who can perform,  and who won't give the impression to the populace that they will have to think!!!!  Let's get with the program!!!!!  And take back the government, if we survive this dynasty that is!!!!!!

08:13 -- The people of Florida should be examined as a whole. Jeb Bush AND Katherine Harris winning???? Maybe the debacle of election 2024 had more to do with the inept, ingnorant population and less to do with a flawed ballot system.
08:13 -- If they thought the '92 beating was bad, this is a full scale drubbing.  The leadership, if you wish to use that term, is absolutely pathetic.  They lack any sort of vision for the American people to buy into.  Instead, they practiced and will probably continue to practice appeasement with that strutting little rooster of a Napolean we have in the Whitehouse. Great strategy guys.  Sometimes, you just gotta' punch the bully back, not become his friggin' toady.  Pathetic.
08:14 --

Yes the republipukes won big and we are probably in for hell on earth.  However, if we are still around in two years I think republican victories will be shortlived.  The economy cannot afford a war with Iraq and when that happens the country could sink into a depression.  Unemployment, sky high deficits, a repeal of Roe v Wade is what we can expect over the next couple of years.  On an angrier note we dems need to fire the spineless wusses, begining with Daschle.  We Dems need to find our voice and elect officials that will speak with that voice.  Having said that lets dump Terry McCuluffe and the last of the Clintonites.

08:14 -- Paul Wellstone was right--the Democratic party has lost its soul. This should be a wake-up call that it's time to find it again. The way to do it is NOT to become even more like the Repugs Dems already have, but to stand up for the things that have always made the party so great! Otherwise, we may as well hand the country over to Karl Rove and his Gestapo for good.
08:15 --

The corrupt Bush successfully exploited 9/11 for his political benefit. Even Iraq was politically timed to influence the elections. In combination with huge Republican campaign funds, we now have dark ages, Limbaugh-like mentality controlling everything. The Democrats elected to not challenge Bush on even their core issues. At least the Republicans will be showcased as they pursue their agenda of corporate welfare, policy for sale (campaign contributions), deficits, the economy, coddling of the rich, ultraconservative judges, and non-interest in prescriptions, health care and SS. Hold them accountable!!

08:16 -- AMEN! Get ready for Jeb's ascendancy to the CROWN next. What the **** happened to these pussies? They were SO eager to get back to campaigning, they rolled over and took it in the butt from B*** on Iraq . THEY got what THEY deserved, and we got hosed again in the process. The ONLY democrat with any BALLS died in that plane crash. He WILL NEVER be replaced by the likes of these GUTLESS WONDERS.
08:20 -- thank the universal powers that brought forth life on this planet.  i thought i was alone,at least there are others who think this chicken leadership of the democratic party is at fault. but we are at fault as well. we can no longer take the high road.  the republicans have the dumb-ass for a leader, and we got people with no guts.
08:22 -- May God have mercy on what little is left of this American democracy. The people of Florida prefer a criminal; the people of Colorado, a racist; the people of Minnesota, the opposing candidate to an assassinated (let's be honest folks, it was assassination) senator and hero. My final thoughts? I will live my revolution, as Goodman exhorts, and pray that we as a country wise up. Or it is over. SM Montaigne
08:22 -- I don't know whether to cry or to scream. On one hand I believe it would only have been more "roll over and scratch my tummy" response to the outrages of the crypto fascists now in charge of the country had the Democrats won. On the other hand the Supreme Court will now be packed with young Scalia and Thomas clones, and they will be there doing the laundry for the testosterone addicted for life. Maybe the country will have to go through its own Dark Ages with the anally fixated running things before the 65% who were too busy, lazy, indifferent or ill informed to vote will wake up and look around.
08:22 -- This might just be the best thing that could've happened.  Maybe now the Democratic leadership will FINALLY allow themselves to get in there and play hardball like the GOP.  Plus, after the Repubs screw things up even more over the next 2 years, George II is much more likely to be a one-termer like his daddy.
08:24 -- I think Democrats have to identify ALL of their enemies, including the extreme right-wing Zionists that have infested our country. They're working hand-in-glove with corporate interests to steal more oil.
08:25 --

I'm sorry to be so negative, but counting on the so called "silent majority" is a waste of time. They haven't cared in decades, why should they care now? You can also count on the remaining dems to be even more servile than they have been recently. Heil Mitt!!

From Massachusetts, the supposed bastion of left liberalism(ha!)

08:25 -- This may be the end of the Democratic Party.  With conservatives (a euphemism) controlling  all four branches of government, the White House, the Senate, the House and the Courts, I expect the next two years will bring about the destruction -- certainly a major weakening -- of such hallmarks of our nation as Social Security, welfare and abortion rights.  And with NO LEADERSHIP, there will be no money available to mount a campaign for 2024 -- even if the Democrats had someone worthy.
08:26 -- <H1>This is ridiculous.... Licking Bush's boots couldn't be more truthful....That the hell.. Where are the leaders.  It's up to us to remove the ones we have</h1>
08:27 -- Local good news - we in Illinois have a Dem Gov as well as state house & senate...though it won't do a fat lot of good with our $2 billion deficit. Passports ready, everyone? Our theory is that W's going to declare war, then martial law. Beware about "taking it to the street." Let's pray for backlash, since reason seems to be too much to ask for. --BCKing, Chicagoland
08:27 -- I think I hear Canada calling...
08:28 -- Apparently the American people need more pain and suffering to help them wake up.
08:28 --

Damn! a hundred-word limit!

OK- I am angry- I gave the dems a chance this year- voted the straight party ticket (so much as I could), and they lost.  Badly.

Now- instead of sitting around and moaning about it, let's agitate.  Write our newly elected congresscritters and remind them that there are more voices to listen to.  Start organizing for 2024.  Especially at the local level- I don't know about your local elections, but ours had seven seat go to the republicans unopposed! Seven!  That's about a hundred words- think about it!

08:29 --

For decades the Democratic Party has allowed the Republicans to dictate the debate, to the point that the word "liberal'' is considered an epithet. It is ridiculous for anyone to believe that a Republican-Lite party, which the Democratic Party has become, can compete with the real thing.

Maybe this disaster will lead to some change in leadership and force the Democratic Party to rediscover its roots. I doubt it, though. There will just be more handwringing, more "Me Too-ism'', and even after the Republicans double oil prices, gut Social Security and further tailor the tax code to reward the rich, the Democrats will still get thumped in 2024.

08:29 -- Our "elections" have always been fake. It is just that now people are starting to notice.  No matter what political party they are a part of, they will fail us.  No one in the government represents us at all.  And they never will.  Wait until the voter turnout is down to 10% in 20 years.
08:30 -- Well, I hope everyone in our military, whether out of desire, stupidity, or necessity, is ready to... die for oil sucker...
08:30 --

Either the people are so stupid they can't see the Bushies are lying to them, the voting machines are rigged to favor the ReTHUGS, or the Dems have made a deal with the devil by appeasing Bush.

The Dems have learned the hard way--they know now how much of a flim-flam man Bush really is--appease Bush, get burned, and defy him, get killed.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

08:32 -- To all the progressive left-leaning people who didn't vote or voted Green -- especially the rich white trust-fund-afarians -- I hope it's you and not just the poor people of color who experience no reproductive rights and dirty air and no worker safety and no increased minimum wage and "welfare reform" and become cannnon fodder in Shrub's "war" on "tear-ism" -Bitter, bitter, and incredibly SAD Democrat
08:35 -- My family in Europe used to think that GWBush was a joke and that it was incredible that he was best we could come up with in this huge country.  Now they think  that any people as stupid as we appear to be deserve what we asked for.  They are also very afraid of what kind of horror we will drag the rest of the world into to avenge his father.  I have no defense of my country to offer them.
08:35 --

<<God help us, our country is full of dummies..>>, someone wrote.

No, our country is full of people who don't vote because there is no political party that defends their interests.

OK, all you "leaders" who want to run the Democratic Party "like a business"--after a defeat like this, YOU'RE FIRED.

Go away and keep sucking up to your filthy rich buddies who, by the way, despise you as much as we do.

08:35 -- I guess maybe we should all start calling each other 'Commrades' now...huh? The U.S.S.A is born!
08:35 -- Do not be afraid, do not despair. They who seek to effectively transform our self-governance into an efficient engine of self-service and self-enrichment at our expense will not further succeed if we present dynamic people of substance who propose a vision that calls us back to our historic aims, goals, and standards. We need to reawaken to the American Dream, out of this greed-ridden and death-dealing nightmare. We need to put aside the temptaions of unbridled authoritarianism, of mking the people slaves of political policy, and be ourselves again. Then, we won't be mocked and reviled the world over.
08:36 --

I WANNA PUKE MY GUTS OUTWITH THE ECONOMY IN SHAMBLES, EVER INCREASING DEFICITS,  MASSIVE DISPARITIES BETWEEN RICH AND POOR, A FAILED WAR AGAINST TERRORISM AND AN INSANE WAR AGAINST IRAQ,  THESE IDIOTS CANNOT SUCCESSFULLY ENGAGE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. NOT ONLY IS THE COUNTRY RUN BY A BUNCH OF RACIST CORPORATE RUBES, BUT THERE IS NOT CLEAR OPPOSITION PART.    Andre the Hurler,  Houston, TX

08:37 --

Why is everyone sooooo afraid to attack this IDIOT on the issues?!?!?

He's only so popular BECAUSE no one is speaking out against him!!!!

Look where it has gotten us!  Could corporate dollars have gotten the Democrats to roll over for W?!?!?!

We must be the Democratic party that stands for the people of the Nation!!!

We must be the Democratic party with the guts to be right even if it may SEEM unpopular at the moment!

We must stand up for the rights of real Americans  against Bush's, right wing tyranny!!!!!!

GOD HELP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!

08:37 -- And why are we holding our breath hoping that the democrats will change? don't we get it that it is in their best interests not to change? Change is really up to us!
08:37 --

We need a REAL KENNEDY!!!!!!

08:37 -- If they would have put someone better than Janet "THE BUTCHER OF WACO" Reno up in Florida Jeb would be crying in his cereal this morning, and the shrub would be worried. Now it looks like will will have 4 more years of the WANT TO BE TYRANT in the white house.
08:38 --

These Bush lapdogs that call themselves "Democrats" played right into Bush's hands!  All Bush talks about is a bloody war with Iraq, and the Dems just go along!  We ALL knew that Iraq was contrived to divert attention from 401-K's being decimated, over 2 million jobs lost, and the biggest budget surplus in history handed to the wealthiest 1%.  Carville was RIGHT!  The Democrats should have TOLD it like it was!

08:38 -- i am just plain sick---but,WW3?? no way! we the people no matter what our politics are no matter what are race or color or religion we need to shout it out.......WE DONT WANT YOUR WAR MR PRESIDENT! hang your banners all dont give up the fight put up bumper stickers.....window signs empower those that need to see them.......SHOUT IT OUT-NO WAR! Amyc in alaska
08:38 --

Want to send a message to the King Wuss and Chief Collaborator for the Republican Party? Then help us send Tom Daschle a message. We're sending Senator Daschle hundreds of pink tutus next week and will continue to target Spineless Democrats after next week (HINT: NEXT ACTION IS AGAINST THE COWARDLY LEADER OF THIS MESS, TERRY McAULIFFE).

Visit our site to learn more details.

LET'S SEND THE MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR!

NO MORE SPINELESS DEMOCRATS!

Mal

08:39 -- What's scariest is the federal judiciary. All our hard fought changes are about to disappear. I'm a first year law student, and I'm not sure I even want to do this anymore. But I will, because someone needs to stand up for what is right. Flee to Canada if you must, but know that I will be here, fighting to make them accountable, fighting for justice, and running to fix the system, when the time is right.
08:39 --

I WAS JUST LISTENING TO DEMOCRACY NOW WERE THEY REPORTED THAT SOMETING LIKE 30% OF REGISTERED VOTERS EVEN BOTHERED TO SHOW UP.  Dubya,  Deep in the heart of TEXAS.

08:40 -- I actually voted for an anti-choice, pro-gun, oil and gas drilling "Democrat" in New Mexico. I did this only because he was a Democrat. NO MORE! I sold out just like the Democratic Party!  We must begin to stand up for what we believe. I am a liberal who agrees with the Greens but vote for Democrats because I believed the Greens were splitting the liberal vote. NO MORE! I now realize THERE IS NO LIBERAL VOICE IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY! They have turned into a bunch of Bush fearing idiots who strategize to win but have no core values.
08:40 -- i'm speechless...i can almost forgive the american people for their stupidy, but i cannot forgive the stupidy of the (so-called) current democratic leadership. they've let us all down, and, therefore, should resign immediately. none of the current crop have a chance in hell of doing anything for this country, so step aside and let somebody new in! I hate those ruthless repugs, but at least they know what they have to do to win. that's something the dems haven't seemed to figure out.
08:41 -- ohmigod. . . we're in "it" now. Did Democrats actually believe the rhetorical claptrap the Repugs were dishing out --"if you're not with us, you're with the terrorists" What if "us" is creating oligarchy and putting the Constitution in the crapper? Democrats have become a bunch of pansy-assed lapdogs. And everybody else watches and believes political ads rather than reading what's really out there and *gasp!* thinking for themselves. DamndamndamndamnDAMN!!!
08:42 --

Good God. Now What?  Constitution in shreds, blood spilled for oil, more money for the wealthiest, sensible treaty agreements swept away. Sounds sensationalist, no?

Keep badgering your congressional representatives and senators. Keep sending messages that you're not letting these spineless democrats off the hook. They must START fighting, and we must keep reminding them we're watching. Write or phone every single day.  If we don't keep up the fight, why should they think they have to?

Go get 'em!

08:43 --

And as Latin American countries like Brazil get leftists leadership, I just can't help but think we have a Reagan situation all over again.  It took our country so long to try to pick itself up after that loco, and now we are going all the way back again.  Why can't the Dem's just come out and say they like labor, they like ethnic minorities, they want to help the poor and they want PEACE! PEACE! PEACE!!!!!!!

08:43 -- I really don't think the american people wanted to put republicans in office. Just the dems had no charisma and looked blah and pathetic. The republicans looked professional and knew what they were doing, even though they are bastards. Big fuckup now we are in for some disasterous policy changes.
08:45 --

The Democratic Party wake up?  The Democratic party get some guts and a spine?  Yeah, right.  Anybody with half a brain knows the Republicans win because they 1) believe in their insane ideas, and 2) ALWAYS VOTE.  Democrats are too gutless to 1) believe in anything and 2) actually vote.  They have become the party of the people that sit in bars and restaurants throughout the country and gripe, but never do anything.  If you want a cross between Stalinsit Russia and Hitler's Germany, keep it up!  If you don't, do something for Christsake!!!  Didn't the 2024 election teach you idots anything?  ...Jim Melbourne

08:46 -- Here in Georgia we have Ralph Reed to thank for the huge Republican upset since he became the state's Rep. party chairman.  That they nailed the Governor's seat was something no one expected.  So you can be sure that there will be paybacks aplenty and look for Reed to be deeply involved in the national scene in 2024.  Horrified in Atlanta.
08:47 -- There was a cold war slogan...something about put your head between your knees and kiss your a$$ goodbye. I am a registered Green and for the first time in my voting life, I voted democrat right down the party lines -- out of fear. Never again. We have a right to our fears God knows they are legitimate, but we also need to excercise our right not to be controlled by fear. My pledge is to become more activly involved in local green politics and economics because there is a lot of work to do. We are all in the same boat -- consider organized boycotts, cooperatives and yes, the street.
08:48 -- --laughs bitterly-- Now you know how we feel...multiple parties and a first-past-the-post system (hint: COALITION GOVERNMENTS & MUTUAL AGREEMENTS ARE YOUR NEW BEST FRIENDS!!). Here in Canada, some of us view this Republican victory with a certain alarm -- whither goeth the US, goeth Canada, more or less. We're waiting and watching and hoping that your government doesn't blow it for everyone.
08:49 --

Yeah - it's the Democrats fault - but don't forget the media.  They are so complicit in this.  You can't possibly have a democracy without an free, unbiased media and we don't have one.  People need to start holding them accountable and bombarding the major media outlets with calls, emails, etc.  It sort of worked with the New York Times' reporting of the demonstration in Washington.  We're up against a lot.  It'll take a lot of work for democracy to survive.  BOMBARD THE MEDIA!!

Pissed off in NYC!!!

08:50 --

I couldn't agree more. The Democratic leadership should have raised hell starting with the "selection" of George the dim and not let up!

08:52 -- The Republicans stole it again.  We're fucked.
08:53 --

THIS ELECTION CONFIRMS TWO THINGS:

  • el
  • pt
    1. THERE IS NO STRONG LEADERSHIP OR MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY
    2. OVER FIFTY PERCENT OF AMERICANS SUFFER SOME FORM OF MENTAL RETARDATION

08:54 -- The Democratic Party Leadership sucks! They missed the boat completely on this election. We need outrage and we got complacency! Gephardt must go. Daschle must go. Liberman must go. I'm wearing black for the rest of the Bush coup d'etat term. I'm in mourning for Democracy and my country - America. Anon in Houston, TX
08:55 -- And given what kind of judges Shrub will appoint to the Supreme Court - and they'll be with us for a long, long time - at some point, we'll be looking back at the Rehnquist Court as the Good Old Days.  <sigh>
08:56 -- It’s like we’re the French in WWII and we’ve finally woken up and realized that all of Europe has been appeasing Hitler and the Nazi’s have changed all the road signs to German. Get it Democratic politicians. People respected Wellstone for his stand on the war. Oh and if the Minnesotans give up and don’t contest that election, they’re dumber than we all think they are.
08:56 -- ORGANIZE NOW -- WORK NOW -- START NOW
08:57 -- DUBYA'S APPROVAL RATING IS STILL LOWER THAN ADOLF HITLER'S!
    08:58 --

We can kiss the judiciary goodbye!!!!

The "Democrats" in this state (GA) kept trying to show how much they agreed with the idiot-in-chief! You sleep with dogs, you get fleas!!!

The following will receive serious consideration:

09:02 -- Did voters check their brains at the door yesterday??? Even worse, did democrats think that they could ride the coat tails of Bush's stupidity?? Unfortunately, Bush has people to put him in the right place at the right time. Ugh. Bora Bora is looking nice for the next two years.
    09:02 --

This election was all about fear, fear, fear.  W won.  Fear won.  Way to go, America!

    09:05 --

The Democrats in this country should be very ashamed right now because they allowed themselves to become effectively irrelevant.  If people think it will be better in two years, think again.  The more power the Republicans get, they more they will keep because they understand that the majority of Americans are mindless sheep who believe what the TV and radio tell them is true and right.  It just seems unreal to me sometimes.    I'm not shocked by the vote... Just very sad and really quite frightened. Be well and take care and keep trying to ring the bell.

09:05 -- Here's what I dont understand. Why were there SO MANY repubs. running unopposed? I mean, yes there were a few dems also, but I saw a great deal of unopposed republicans. (EVEN A FEW UP FOR THE SENATE!) What the fuck are the demorcrats thinking? I think this is the perfect time for an independant party to stand up and kick all those stupid fucks (by which I mean both Repubs and Dems) out of the government once and for all.
    09:16 --

It's way past time to get rid of McCauliff and Gephardt... Daschle is a maybe.  How many gifts do these guys need?  Enron, Harken, Haliburton, Anderson, Submarinegate, Floridagate.... this is the most corrupt administration in recent history and the Dems have not said seriously challenged them on ANYTHING!!!   This is the type of thing which will lead still more liberal leaning voters to the Greens, which will only benefit the republicans.

I am absolutely sick today knowing that this nightmare will not only continue, but will get much, much worse.

09:17 -- For evil to succeed, good men and woman need only do nothing!
09:17 -- Well, I do blame the half-wit Greens that don't work within the Democratic party. Instead of working to change a party that has a chance to win they split the youth out of the Demo party and give us George Bush and now give the Congress to the right wing. We will now drill in Alaska, suffer tort reform (protecting corporations from your injury and death law suits) and see high courts flooded with young (lifetime appointments) ultra right religious fanatic judges.
    09:17 --

As a young American, I think we have ourselves (other 18 - 30 yr. olds) to blame for this crap!  We are a generation that loves to complain and blame things on other people, but when push comes to shove we don't rise up and let our voice be heard.  The young people of this country need to get off their asses and take over this process.  It is a sad thing that it took this long to get Strom Thurman and Jesse Helms the hell out of congress.  These guys practically owned slaves!!! -- Marc W., So.Cal.

09:18 -- what else do you expect?  maybe the silver lining in this is the pending death of the democrats and the freeing of progressive voters from the shackles of the bootlickers of the DLC/DNC
09:18 -- If the wimpy Democrats would run a POPULIST campaign with a coherent NATIONAL MESSAGE and had the courage to stand up to Bush's extremist right-wing agenda, they would win easily. And a lot more people might show up to vote. As it is, only the extremist right-wing one-fifth of the population is ruling the country. If somebody doesn't stand up to Bush and his oil-crazed bible-thumping plutocrats, we're all screwed.
09:20 -- Yes, the Democratic party needs the youth vote. As a result of Ralph Nader in Florida, several endangered species on the brink will go extinct across this country. I work with endangered species and this is a fact, funding is cut big time! There is a big difference between the two parties don't buy the Green nonsense. WAY TO GO GREEN PARTY! YOU ARE THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE FAR RIGHT!!!!!!!! New bumper sticker: VOTE GREEN PARTY... GET THE FAR RIGHT!!
09:20 -- Do not despair!!! It is understandable for people to vote their fear and not their hope when all they are told is what and whom to fear, why to hate and what is not possible. Do not be cynical. Teach courage, tolerance and imagine what is possible. Tell everyone about the hope for a more just society…hope for a more peaceful society…hope for progress and tolerance…. The right wing has always played to fear. Do not lash out at those whose message of hope is drowned out by fear and war and hate. CONTINUE TO TEACH HOPE AND JUSTICE!! Matthew Sunderland, Oceanside CA
    09:22 --

    Gore in 2024!

The only major Democrat possibility who came out foursquare against the nonsense that Bush wants to press ahead with and so many Democrats in Congress have supported.  Gephardt, Daschle and Kerry I would say to forget about.  The war will be the major issue, or at least Democrats have to hope that it will be, because otherwise Bush will be very hard to unseat.

09:24 --  I believe there may be some good news to come from our big loss.  Think about it.  The GOP (Karl Rove) may have just made a strategic error. He may have won the battle but may yet lose the war.  What are they going to do when all the bills come due?  How will they explain the trillions in deficits?  How will they explain the body count when our soldiers die?  How will they explain continued terrorism? You can't play forever on people's fear and ignorance.  Reckoning day will come.
09:25 -- Get rid of Gephart-less. He has always put his political aspirations ahead of any true convictions. Daschle can kiss his presidential run goodbye also. GOOD. This gives us 1 year for someone with some cojones to emerge & take control for Dems. If no one is capable, we deserve whatever we get.
    09:26 --

WHO WILL THE DEMOCRATS BLAME? SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE SENT PACKING. WE RAN DISGRACEFUL CAMPAIGNS. IN MY HOME STATE. SHANNON O'BRIEN DECIDED TO MAKE MITT ROMNEY"S VOCABULARY CHOICE A FOCAL POINT OF THE LAST WEEK OF HER CAMPAIGN. TERRY MCCAULIFFE, YOU ARE A DISGRACE.

    WE NEED NEW BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

09:26 -- What were people thinking? Were they? Buckle your seatbelts and enjoy the WAR! Rpubs have control! Thanks for nothing Demo's!Thanks Greens for syphoning votes in close races! Real Patriotic! When your KIDS finish Highschool, they can use their athletiscism to out run Saddama Bio-Weapons! Just what you had hoped, right? I feel sick! The choices were supposed to be clear..WAR/Graft=Repubs & No War/Less Graft=Demos!WAR is Good, according to this Election! Nader's Scorched Earth worked in reverse! Voters, like ostriches don't like whats happened and burried their collective heads! This is the AMERICA that Americans WANTED? Damn shame!I VOTED,Which seems to MEAN little or nothing! My faith has NOT BEEN RESTORED! Has YOURS?
    09:28 --

We're toast.  As another person on the list said, "Here comes WW3!!!"

And say "bye-bye" to the Bill of Rights, too!

    09:28 --

The media and republicans will spin this for the next two years as a Bush "Love Fest."

But wasn't it really just a "Throw-Out-The-Incumbent" orgy, a response to the really bad economy that Bush, Inc. will only make worse?

Just trying to rationalize the total stupidity of the American voter and their reasons for  making the utter destruction of my country possible... and also my deep depression (which I hope to channel into productive anger soon).

09:30 -- Real Democrats should take consolation from a modest result in an election in which we were betrayed by our leadership. If Senator Byrd, or someone like him, is not minority leader within a few days, start changing your registration to Green, because we'll never win an election while appeasers such as Daschle, Kerry and Di Fi disrepresent us.
    09:30 --

James Carville said last night that we'll now see the results of our inaction and what it is like when you give these guys Carte Blanche.  It's scary, but I can actually now envision an America where you have to wear a Christian cross and pray in school.  An America where diversity is frowned upon and persecution is common-place.  An America where a womans right to choose consists only of what to make for dinner.  How did we let this happen?  WWIII here we come, muslims beware! -- Marc W., So.Cal.

09:30 -- Terry McAuliffe Must Go!!!  What happened to the liberal progressive party.  The DLC is the end of any progressive party.  Maybe Ralph Nader had it right, Republicrats!
09:31 -- GWB is a mindless idiot but Daschle is a coward!  Either will kill America just as quick!
    09:35 --

ex-dem  now a green  and I blame the dems for the impending doom

you've let down the people of America in such an incredibly self-interested, deplorable way and while this wall seems quite vocal, how many were this vocal with friends/media before the election?  did you not see this coming?

who has the most to do with this mess?  clearly men (boys?)have had their way for far too long.  if you really want to change things, start talking about getting power in the hands of women- we all know we would all be better off and safer.

    get radical

regina- pissed in "now officially" right wing georgia

09:36 -- I watched America destroy itself last night. I wonder if the New Zealand phone company is hiring. I gotta get outa here. I can learn how to drive on the right side of the road. Any other other gay guys want to be bunkmates in the concentration camp they'll build for us?
09:37 -- It's time for a return to partisanship! I WANT a party that stands for something. I've had enough of the spineless DNC. I want someone who will stand behind their beliefs, so that I can believe in them.
    09:38 --

For those out there who are wondering who can carry the torch for the democrat party, I think that Dennis Kucinich would be a good replacement.  I think that he is the next Paul Wellstone.  He's not afraid to stand up to the republicaans.  His speech after 9-ll actually made me cry. and I thought that he is a true american.  I personally like Al Gore, but I think that the media brought him down by making fun of him, and I am afraid that it would still stick in peoples mind.

09:38 -- What to say at such a distressing time? If there can be any positive outcome of this it's that, aside from the normal ditto monkeys, the general concensus is that this tragedy is because of a morally and politically hollow Democratic party and not a Bush mandate. Had it been a Bush mandate, Minnesota would have been known last night and the Repubs would have won most of their races by far more than the 1-2 percentage points. So now let's start a pool as to who can come and rescue us in 2024, cuz it's all Ashcroft for the next 6 years.
09:38 -- Bush is an idiot, liar, thief, con artist, crook - I'm sure there are other words to describe him and the rest of the Republican party.  It took 12 years of pain (1980-1992) for  this country to wake up and yell OUCH - I sure hope it won't take 12 more.  I can't wait for someone to ask me in 2024 if I'm better off than I was 4 years ago. Hmm, let's see - 2 million + unemployed; a deficit of  zillions of dollars; social security gutted; no health care/drug plan for seniors - or anyone else; and a very tiny, tiny, tiny group of really rich Republicans.
    09:39 --
    My karma tells me
    You've been screwed again.
If ya let them do it to ya
    You've got yourself to blame.
It's you who feels the pain.
It's you who takes the shame.

    09:39 --

It is not only the fault of the Democrat's leadership. The Republicans have manipulated the news media almost perfectly and have brought to perfection Nixon's "Don't listen to what we say watch what we do" mantra. The media are only listening, not watching. I have feared since 1994 that the only way to make the general public understand what the Radical Republicans are up to is to give them two years of power. The price will be extremely high, we will have environmental and economic damage, many years of an extreme right judiciary and, certainly, the loss of constitutional protecctions like Roe v Wade.

09:40 -- It's time to turn off the TV, and use the Internet (while we still can) to READ what the rest of the world has to say. I have been finding out more about what goes on in America by reading the foreign news sites than I have by reading the domestic versions (registration required!). (more)
    09:40 --

Folks,  just remember, this ain't just another election.  They aren't interested in "democracy" or "representation."  They're interested only in POWER - which they've now got.  Remember - Boy George blames the folks who stormed the theater in Moscow for the fact that the government killed 100+ of the hostages with gas in the "rescue."  What does that portend for dissent in this country?!  THIS WAS NOT just another election.  We are well on our way to a one-party fascist state.  Oh, and while you're fuming, ask Ralph Nader whether he still thinks it was a good idea for him to run for president!

09:40 -- we need  TWO COUNTRIES. one for MIDDLE AMERICA and one for the REST OF US
    09:41 --

Strong, Progressive, Centrist, Populists need to TAKE BACK THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY! We can't go far to the left because we'll just lose. But we also can't be "moderate" spineless bootlickers.

A lot can be learned from how Newt Gingrich took over the congress in the 1990s, as well as how he fell from power. Democrats need to pull together, show some leadership and resolve, and have a COHERENT NATIONAL PLAN for how they're going to help the country and seize control of the congress and white house to represent the interests of the majority of Americans.

09:43 -- Proof that taking a stand doesn't hurt you Dennis Kucinich and Stephanie Tubbs Jones are winners in Ohio both strong against the tyrant in the white house..
09:44 -- I don't blame the folks in Washington, I lay ALL the blame on the MILLIONS of registered democrats who just didn't get out and vote. Even my own father in law, who claims that he doesn't vote because his vote doesn't make a difference, sits around all day bitching about how much he hates Bush. DUHHHHH!!!!!! Worst of all, I'm a SF Bay area liberal on "vacation" in freaking Texas, where everyone looks like they just got back from voting republican. KILL ME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's just sit back and wait while the courts become filled up with ultra conservative Jesus freaks. KILL ME NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
    09:45 --

The democratic leadership should print a teeshirt that reads:

I BENT OVER FOR THE pRESIDENT...

And all I got was a fascist dictatorship

    09:48 --

What are we going to do now?   I am ready to fight tooth and nail to take my country back...and I have a feeling we may be marching in the street before long.  The incredible arrogance of this administration will be completely unchecked now.  And yes, I want new leadership.  NOW!  NOW! NOW!   When

09:48 -- perhaps the exit polls were scrapped because they reflected how people actually voted rather than the numbers used to declare winners.
09:48 -- Over 60% of Americans think the Republicans are making the economy worse.
Over 50% of Americans oppose a war with Iraq.
    Yet...
Over 60% of Americans "approve" of Prezidicator Bush.
Over 50% of Americans did not vote in this election.

    CONCLUSION:
The Democrats are bootlicking wuss-bags and voters are apathetic retards.

09:49 -- I write from Scandinavia and represent no one other than myself -- but I should be surprised if there aren't many here who share my feelings of fear and despondency. What few domestic curbs there were on the policies fronted by Bush have now been removed, and it would seem that there exists no other power or combination of powers ready or able to hinder the US leadership in its thrust to rewrite the map of West Asia.Wars are easy to get into but hard to get out of and kill a lot of people. 2024.11.05 will be remembered as a black day....
    09:50 --

I think this is more like 1992 in reverse. It had a lot to do w/redistricting because Democrats did well in the governor's races, as the GOP did 10 years ago, but the federal government level ended up in the hands of one political party. Gotta build toward what ended up being a landslide for the opposition in the next two years. The advantage is that we get to choose a real president in 2024!!!

09:51 -- www.senate.gov www.house.gov www.democrats.org You have Internet access. You have the power. Connect with your so-called elected reps and the Democratic party and TELL THEM OFF! Make it impossible for them to ignore us! At the very least, you'll feel better. And send them this web address too so they can find out how we really think!
09:51 -- THANK YOU for this forum. God knows, I could hardly be any more sick in the stomach from all of this, but it ALMOST helps a little to know that there are so many others reeling from this insanity. AGREED on the clever 2 POINTS outlined above: NO MESSAGE FROM THE WUSS-ASSED MODERATE DEMS & THE MENTAL RETARDATION OF THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN VOTING POPULACE.... AARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
    09:52 --

Dasche, Gephardt and fellow wimps must go. Next election, if the Dems don't get some balls, I'm voting for a third party.

The Dems are out of touch. They miscalculated the opposition to war in Iraq and missed an opportunity to show some backbone.

Right now, I don't feel like fighting anymore. I am over the age where I might need an abortion, have a good job and live reasonably comfortably. I have no children, so I no longer care about our environment

I'm not going to worry about the poor and down-trodden who did not vote.

09:52 -- I am ashamed to be American.
    09:52 -- Don't whine/mourn/bitch -- organize!

cracksmoking, bud drinking, rabbit killing,sub-70 iq in the white house....? Sounds great to the ford pickup driven donut and wildturkey drinking American Rep.turds. We like it when we can  look toward the WhiteHouse for lifestyle tips. NICE GOING!.... Now you can take that tax rebate that GW gave you, ALL $600 and get a shotgun and some beer... your gona need it to 'fit in'. PS: dont forget the Extra points for killing small animals.....GW burn in hell!!!!!!

    09:55 --

I am ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED with this election.  I am heartbroken at the thought of an even stronger republican 'dictatorship,' in my own state (Utah) and across the country.  I know that a big factor in the republican and big business interest victories in Utah are due to voters being misinformed and mindlessly republican (there are a lot of cultural issues here).

I feel like I'm living a nightmare.  The republicans are in control.  Say hello to World War III and goodbye to the woman's right to choose.

09:56 -- Let's get our passports ready, this country as my mother would say "IS GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET."  The basket is being carried by the 'Repugnicans'.
09:56 -- Imagine McAuliffe saying last night on Larry King's show that "Tonight was a good night for Democrats", as reported by Drudge.  Good grief, that man is so far out of it, he's in orbit!  If the Democrats can't get rid of him, for starters, they'd best kiss 2024 goodbye!
09:58 -- Well, here we go! War, Recession, draconian laws, and a man clearly in the mode of Hitler in charge of the whole shebang! Americans are morons. It'll take total impoverishment and kids coming home on boxes to provoke them. And, by then, it'll be too damn late. See ya in the camps, y'all.
    09:58 --

I saw a sticker on gwbush.com that summed up all this madness,  "Which is worse, screwing an intern or screwing the country?"  These bunch of idiots want to take over this country and take most of our rights away from us hard working Americans.  Plus, all of these great Democratic leaders just sit back and praise the douche bag that's in office.  Dubya didn't get smart after 9-11, he just made the same speech for five months.  And anyone that thinks he is a good president is a moron, he is the enemy, not Sadam or Bin Laden.  Regime change starts at home...  pissed off in Florida (Jeb sucks)-Nathan

    09:59 --

I'm seeing RED, alright. Repugs now rule this country, thanks to the wimpy Dems who did exactly NOTHING for their supporters. This morning, I officially renounced the Democratic Party. I see little difference from their Iraq pro-war resolution and Bushco. Were they paid off??? Were their lives threatened??? Are people in this country REALLY this stupid????? I want to move to Canada (or anywhere). Otherwise, I hope to have a choice in what color will be used for my concentration camp garb.

09:59 -- The Democratic Party is a walking corpse. They lost the last election, they lost this one, and they'll lose again as long as the fascist-lite DLC pulls the strings. They didn't learn a thing in 2024 when the progrssive left sapped their base. They just got mad because we didn't cowtow to their moronic centrist line of crap. Screw the Dems, I've voted for the least of two evils for the last time. Its Greens, Libs, and die-hard commies for me now.
10:00 -- Whay are the Dems still talking about how much money they raised.  Its the ideas stupid!
10:00 -- Well... at least guns will be cheap and plentifull.
    10:01 --

I WASTED MY VOTE AGAIN! STAND UP DEMS AND FIGHT LIKE RABID DOGS TO WIN !!!!!!!

    10:02 --

My suggestions are:  all those who posted here who don't belong to the democratic party, JOIN.   Get active locally at every level, start getting democrats elected to local positions and get rid of those who either sit on the fence.  State level, find good candidates that will stand up for the principles YOU believe in.   National level, get rid of those who resemble moderate republicans rather than solid democrats.  FIND a charismatic, strong leader who can unite the party immediately. You have ONE year, not two, so get busy!

10:03 -- I am so depressed. When everyone loves an idiot like bush and his coattails are so strong, this country is in the dark ages. Without noticing, we have become war mongering racists, who love an idiot who can't complete a sentence. He has a mandate for sure now, that's it for democracy for a while. Beth, NC
    10:03 --

The Democrats have stopped representing freedom.

They no longer represent anything, you can't build a program or message out of nothing.  At least the Republicans represent the freedom to pilage.  But can the Democrats offer freedom from pilage?  If the Democrats want to stand for freedom again, and espicially freedom against greed and plunder, then they must return to a base of human rights and freedom.  That starts with IRV and the Progressives.  If the answer was simple, it would be here.  So read this without weavering or lazy assumptions.

Well, here in the Lone Star state, the demo party chair, one Molly Beth Malcomb, was in fact an East Texas Republican leader just a year before she took the demo top job. She then hired a Bob Bullock staffer to be the state democratic party communications director. So we had a state dem committee run by folks that Bush and Rove might actually have picked. And with the likes of Tony Sanchez, we had the candidates to match the leadership.

    TIME FOR A THIRD PARTY....

The economy is tanking, the Pentagon and CIA run foreign policy, the whole world hates us, and people are in jail not charged with crimes. Now we are going to get a stacked judiciary full of Ashcroft clones.  As Michael Moore says, it isn't fair that some people have two political parties and most of us have none. It really is time to look for real political alternatives that are in touch with real people.

It could remove the income tax deduction for the property tax insofar as it falls on buildings, thereby encouraging localities to raise more of their property tax on land instead. And finally, it could so adjust the revenue sharing formula that the more a city relies on the taxation of land values for its local revenue, the larger its federal revenue share would be.

10:08 -- Only way to win in 2024 will be with Hillary for Prez.  Like her or not, she's the only candidate who will shake things up and make for an interesting election - maybe pull some Republican women voters.  Do you really think Daschle, Kerry, or Gore will turn the Republicans heads??  They'll just laugh at those losers.  We need something to shake things up!!!!!  Hillary will make their stomaches turn, but I think she is the only one who can take on Bush and his smirks in a debate.

presidential term limits amendment unconstitutional.  Barring success in that case, the Republicans will offer a ticket of Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris in 2024.  I have been a registered Democrat all of my voting life, but now I feel completely marginalized.  To paraphrase, I have seen the enemy, and he is us.

    10:11 --

    TEXAS DEMOCRATIC PARTY LEADERSHIP!

    WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING!!!

Why should we be surprised we lost?  We let a Millionaire contributor to the Republican Party fiasco in Florida, with no political experience, who was too busy to vote in the last gubernatorial election, and was accused of drug money laundering, carry the Democratic Party banner as a Democratic candidate for Governor!  Shame on You, Molly Beth Malcolm and the SDEC !!!  We stand for something or we stand for NOTHING!  We either go back to our traditional party principles or I leave the Democratic party!

    10:11 --

    To Terry McAuliffe,

         Tom Daschle,

         Dick Gephardt,

and every left-leaning citizen who just couldn't be bothered to fill out a ballot yesterday....

    FUCK YOU!!!!!!

    10:13 --

I BELIEVE THAT IN TWO YEARS TIME THE REPUBLICANS WILL STILL BE BLAMING CLINTON FOR ALL THE WOES IN THIS COUNTRY.

10:14 -- Organize! organize! fight for our future! Pass along the disgust and maybe, possibly, the democrates will find their backbone.
10:15 -- Lets face it----RUSH Limbaugh is RIGHT!  The Dems leadership is a laugh!  The people have spoken---the liberals are useless!
10:16 -- The DNC has existed in a state of ideological incoherence for over 30 years. Whenever the grass-roots activists support authentic liberal candidates (McGovern, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson), the DNC chooses to bankroll "safe" centrists instead. They may win (Carter, Clinton) or lose (Carter, Dukakis) but in the end, the party has lost the battle to remain relevant to its core. Contrast this with the GOP, which crashed with Goldwater but stuck to Goldwater's ideology--and in 1980, they got their payoff. The Democrats need a New Goldwater right now. They also need leadership that won't keep pulling the rug out from under the faithful.
10:17 -- Anger doesn't serve me well because I usually end up making some smart ass comment but I'm pissed off anyway!  We had no leadership (in either party) before 11/5/02 and we have even less now.  The Dems beat them selves by fawning over our "leader" after 9-11.  They never did have the GUTS to make a stand.  Then again, most American people are afraid to look unpatriotic but speaking their hearts.  This is bad news.  Very bad.  War seems inevitable.  Why the hell didn't most people vote!?!?
    10:17 --

Why does the news media get to "call" the elections? Why do the Republicans have the keys to the kingdom (sic) in the form of the voting machines (ES&S)?  We need to ask some critical questions about how the machines are "programmed" and WHY THERE IS NO PUBLIC OVERSIGHT of these machines. I'm so  *&%#&$* FURIOUS I could just spit..

GW, and all "Christian" right-wing, fundamentalist, hypocrite nutcakes - go to hell....only you're going to make a living hell for ALL of the rest of us here on earth...you *&$%#&$* piece of  @&*$ !

10:17 -- They could have taken all the money they wasted on a "no message" campaign and put it into buying air time and producing a damned radio show everyday to counteract and shoot down every lie spewing out or the corporat GOP media! God, just get Malloy on some major market stations@!!
    10:18 --

This must be was decent Germans felt like when the Nazi's took over or what decent Afghanistanians felt like when the taliban took over.

10:19 -- The good thing about having the Republiklan in charge is that guns will be cheap and plentiful and funding will be cut for mental health care. So, we should have a lot more insane wackos with sniper rifles running around. Remember: and armed society is a SAFE society! Yee-haw!
10:20 -- Give us something to vote FOR: Candidates with integrity, conscience, dedication and ideas!!! Stop "accommodating" the unacceptible. Reclaim the Democratic ideals, don't appologize for them. Stand up and take a stand. Give real leadership a voice. Remember the 1930s and its charasmatic, religious, conservative leader who promised law and order, a strong military and a new world order.
10:20 -- WHY NO EXIT POLLS? WE HAVE ONLY THE RESULTS OF THE MACHINES TO BASE THIS ELECTION ON. COULD IT BE THAT THIS WAS PLANNED? NO HUMAN INPUT TO CHECK FOR IRREGULARITIES? I SMELL SOMETHING BAD. DEM PARTY NEEDS TO GET RID OF DASCHLE, GEPHARDT AND TERRY MAC. PUT CLINTON IN CHARGE AGAIN THAT WAY IF HE SCREWS UP THE BLAME CAN BE PUT ON HIM INSTEAD OF EVERYONE BLAMING HIM FOR THEIR MISTAKES.
    10:22 --

Tom Daschle, you're fired.  Dick Gephardt, you're REALLY fired.  Terry McAuliffe, you are SO COMPLETELY FUCKING fired.

    Bite me.

10:25 -- There's not going to be any war with Iraq. Rove set up the fake and we all went with it (including me). Invading Iraq won't get another mention from the White House until Junior's in hot water again. Of course, the Dems handed him the car keys ANYWAY, so now we're facing certainly the gravest Constitutional crisis since Watergate. I hope Robert Byrd lives forever...
10:25 -- Hitler wasn't elected either. People voted out of fear and not what they believe in. Greg Brophy NY
10:25 -- The positive thing in it all will be: BUSH WILL ATTACK IRAK, THAT'S AS CLEAR AS IT CAN BE. SOME STATES WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS AND HELL WILL BRAKE LOSE. Especially in the middle east but also in Europe and hopefully also in America a little - I'm european and think the Americans really need to get a candy of their own making. This war will be so ugly, so devestating, so inhumane that after it the whole world, even the American government will understand that this should and can NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, it will change our governments for ever into peace loving institutions. Bush is just our waking up stick.
    10:26 --

Clinton can't be blamed for this one. The Democratic hierarchy in the House and Senate are at fault and even in Massachusetts we now have Mitt ( Mr. Olympics) Romney as Governor thanks to an errogant disconnected Democratic leadership.

They have the White House, Congress and a Supreme Court in its pocket to make up for what more power they want.

It is beyond depressing. John Ashcroft with a mandate to disassemble the bill of rights, except of course the revered right to bear arms.

Republican's will give enough tax cuts so that there is no money left for anything but defense and corporate welfare. Its the chicken way to fight programs for people.

    10:26 --

The electorate is also stupid to be taken in by these crooks.

If you don't like the Dems then we all have to move in mass to independent or Green party candidates.

It is a sad day for this nation and the people

    10:27 --

We are at fault, as well as the Demo. Leadership.  Ideas and energy can trickle up, too.  I't's just monumentally sad, pathetic.  Sad for all the missed opportunities (past, present and future) to help people, avoid war and mayhem.  Sad for the disaffected non-voting drones.  They're a tribute to our broken educational system.  I hope the minority party in our government will speak up, and make it clear, that the R's are in charge of the economy, foreign relations and our justice system.   Watch out for the next terrorist attacks !  Get measured for your new burkas, ladies !

10:30 -- I'D SUGGEST WE ALL EMAIL THE ADDRESS FOR THIS PAGE TO OUR DEMOCRATIC STATE PARTIES, LEGISLATORS, ANYWHERE YOU CAN THINK OF TO GET THIS MESSAGE TO THOSE THAT NEED THE KICK IN THE ASS. OTHERWISE WE'LL GET ANOTHER TWO YEARS OF BOOT- LICKING BY THE DEMS. AND MORE OF THE SAME RESULTS!!
    10:30 --

It's time to revive the PROGRESSIVE tradition of the Democratic Party- no more "moderate" cowering in fear when right-wing blowhards throw out the word "liberal" when they don't have an argument against what you're saying.  Be A PROUD Progressive!  Fight for those without a voice.  We'll soon find that the little man is in the majority that hasn't been tapped since the days of the Bull Moose Party.  If it takes breaking off from the farce known and the DNC, so be it.  What have we got to lose?  The Senate?  The White House? The House of Representatives?  Looks like they're already gone to me.

10:31 -- It's a sad day in the state of Minnesota.  Our beloved Paul Wellstone who led in every poll by 6% is gone and we now have this fraud Norm Coleman sitting in his seat because Paul has died.  It's a sad day when the voters of this once reliable bastion of progress choose this punk Coleman over Mondale - our proud native son, former Ambassador to Japan, statesman.  I now know how those who loved Bobby Kennedy felt when Nixon was elected in 1968.  I feel very sad and ashamed.
10:32 -- Even if the Dems regain the presidency or the senate in 2024 it's too late. The current administration will now fill about 100 federal district court and supreme court (you know O'Conner will reture now) vacancies with Clarence Thomas clones .. America is in for some dark days .. make that years .. as the separation between chuch and state will dissapear along with reproductive rights, the enviroment and worker protection.  The religious right won!
10:33 -- I'm speechless. Everything I've been feeling has been stated above.  Hovever, today I will be investing my life savings in the bodybag business.
10:34 -- A party that has moved so far to the right and proved itself utterly gutless in taking on Bush deserves to be decimated at the polls. How fossilized and unimaginative is a party that responds to a crisis by falling back on Lautenberg and Mondale? The GOP are garbage but at least they are consistently so. Democrats lack even the courage to be that.
10:37 -- After September 11, 2024, I felt like I ws living in Germany in 1933.  Well, last night was New Year's Eve.  I now live in Germany, and it is 1934.
    10:37 --

Here is what we have to worry about now...six more years of W, followed by eight years of JEB!  (If you don't think he is planning a run for the White House after his big brother, think again)  If the Democrats don't get their act together soon, we will be putting up with Clarence Thomas look-alikes for ever.  PLEASE, we need to plan now, to put a stop to this Bush BS in 2024.  And, we need a candidate who can motivate and engage an increasingly cynical American public.  Not sure who it is, but damn sure who it isn't! (ie: Gore, Gebhart, Daschle)  Gene in Chiago

    10:38 --

To paraphrease Pogo Possum:  "We have seen the enemy and he is us."  My wife and I have worked diligently with our local Democrats.  We have given our time and money to our cause, and we have written to our representatives in both houses expressing our positions and what we want them to do.  They do not respond to our concerns.  They sound like Bush Republicans, and they vote like that too.

We have consistently been outspent by corporations who give money all year long!  We must fight for publicly funded elections.  We must support the Paul Wellstone type of candidates!

    10:39 --

HONESTLY, HOW STUPID CAN WE BE TO ALLOW BUSH, THE DUMPEST PRESIDENT EVER, WHO IS VISIBLY RUINING THE ECONOMY, WORKING SOLELY FOR SPECIAL INTERESTS, AND GETTING OUR ALLIES TO LOATH US, TO WIN THE PRESIDENCY AND NOW THE OTHER BRANCHES. This election was a repeat of the moronic Gore campaign. It was run by a bunch of stupid asses that somehow think its bad strategy to STAND UP for what Dem's (who are the majority) are supposed to FIGHT for. WE NEED TO GET RID OF THESE PUSSIES (DASCHLE AND MCAULIFFE), AND FIGHT!!

10:39 -- If you give the voters the choice between a Republican and a Republican, they'll pick the Republican every time. McAuliffe, Daschle, and Gephardt should all resign from their "leadership" posts.
    10:40 --

Our anesthetized public has spoken, and it's clear they'd rather watch Fear Factor, and vote for an American Idol.  The "liberal" media has been setting us up for this for months.  With their  "Showdown With Saddam" and "Countdown Iraq" type graphics already in place before the bombs drop, most Americans consider it a done deal.  The 2024 elections taught them that what they think doesn't matter.  The consent has been manufactured.  Zack, I don't know who you are, but people like you need to go into politics or we're all screwed.  Democrats be damned!  They had better not call me for one more dime......

10:43 -- There goes our environment. There goes our freedoms. There goes the Democratic Party. Welcome to the new Dark Age. I understand now why so few vote. Some votes count.
    10:43 --

MAYBE DASCHLE AND COMPANY DON'T BELIEVE  (like I do) THAT CHOICE IS GOING TO BE REVERSED, FAITH BASED GROUPS ARE IN CHARGE, COPS  ARE BECOMING MORE OUTGUNNED IN THE STREETS, SOCIAL SECURITY  WILL GO THE WAY Of ENRON , CIVIL RIGHTS ARE VANISHING AND THAT WE ARE THE WORLD'S ENEMY.     TODAY IS A MORE DIFFICULT DAY THAN TWO YEARS AGO WHEN BUSH WAS GIVEN THE OVAL OFFICE.  AT LEAST TWO YEARS AGO THERE WAS STILL SOME HOPE!!!!!

    10:43 --

Every canidate seems to think that bi-partisionship is the best course of action. BULL!! Partisionship creates debates, discussion and discourse that we need.  Being bi-partision does not mean, doing what Bush wants.  No more rolling over.  If ONE canidate spoke his/her liberal mind, the liberal base in this country would come out in droves to vote.  I want to vote as a liberal, but where have all the liberal canidates gone?

    10:43 --

DASCHLE must GO!!  Let's get Teddy as Minority Leader!! Tell Zell to go to hell.

No more corporate money -- look how much good it did!!

    Kerry in '04!!

    10:44 --

    Another Election,

    Another Fix.

If Americans don't wake up soon, It will be all over!

New Zealand is beginning to look better all the time.

10:45 -- <P align=center> </P>Jimmy Carter said the America deserved a government as good as it's people. I guess this election means we're pretty pathetic bunch!!!
10:45 -- I don't care much for Daschle and Gephardt after this; they kissed ass and got their asses kicked. From now on they should stop their crying. They had their their chance. From now own, I don't care if I have to do it myself, I'll run for public office on my own so we McGovern Democrats can DO THE JOB RIGHT!
10:45 -- Democratic leadership has been a contradiction in terms for years - when are we going to wake up and stand for our ideals? Don't mourn, organize - throw out every spineless wonder who's just a GOP wannabee and let's get back to our roots. "Leadership Council", my a**.
    10:46 --

I am stunned....no...disgusted at the obvious apathy infecting
this country.  Get ready for the invasion and colonization of Iraq, get ready
for Roe v Wade to be overturned, get ready for unchallenged
despoiling of our environment. get ready for the further terrorist
    attacks which George prays for.

I am hoping (beyond hope) that the opposition members of
Congress vote to a person to actually OPPOSE the insanity.  I
doubt that will happen though.  The majority of the Democrats are
nothing more than spineless traitors joining the Big Traitor
because they are afraid not to.

RIP America.  We dug our own grave and gave George the power to bury us.

10:46 -- Let's try to see the good here: When everything goes to shit next year, they will have no one to blame. Here in Florida yesterday, amendment 10 (which grants a small measure of protection for pregnant pigs) passed, making it a banner day for pigs everywhere. Damn the torpedoes; full speed ahead. -ckb in tampa
10:47 -- I hear Canada is a great place to live.
    10:48 --

There's nothing more dangerous to a democracy than a bunch of stupid, frightened people.

    10:48 --

News is now trickling out of continued Republican "Vote Suppression Tactics" (this is actually what the GOP calls it!) Republicans were giving an incorrect election date to African-Americans in Maryland and police were deployed in poor communities warning people NOT to vote if they have any outstanding parking tickets. In Texas, Republican poll monitors were seen harrassing and intimidating Latino voters while police stood by doing nothing. In New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Florida, tenants in senior housing were told they must vote Republican in order to avoid losing their homes.

10:48 -- This teeth ganshing may provide temporary relief for some, but only building a principled alternative political power base can save us from the fate which we now face. Please link to: http://www.greenpartyus.org/ to learn how you can help do that.
    10:48 --

What the hell happened to Dick Gephardt? 14 years ago he ran for president on core democratic values. Now, after Enron and Bush's loony-bin conservatism, he has softened his tone. To this, I have one thing to say. YOU SUCK, DICK!

    10:50 --

CONGRATULATIONS - ARE THE DEMOCRATS MOVING OUT TO THE GRAVEYARD OF IRRELEVANCE WITH THE BULL MOOSE PARTY AND THE WHIGS?

    10:51 --

Maybe its time to join the Green Party, or the Indy party.  At least they have some balls...and arent afraid to speak their minds and fight!!!

    10:54 --

I cried like a baby last night, my heart broken about the GOP winning TOTAL control of the government.  What are people thinking, can so many voting American's be soooooo stupid, well I guess the answer to that question is yes.  I live in Oregon and right now there is a deadlock race for governor between the Democrat and Republican.  How can my liberal state vote so overwhemingly for a ultra conservative jackass like Kevin Mannix?  I'm uterly disgusted about this. WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN, does it take EVERY middle class man, woman, and child to be living on the streets for them to open their eyes to reality?

10:58 -- It's all been disastrously downhill since the DLC took over the Democratic party. Triangulation is a terrible technique -- it turned the Dems into "Republican Lite" -- a party that stands for absolutely nothing except trying to get re-elected. Pissed off in Alabama.
10:58 -- Daschle and Gephardt are bitch-ass punks who got exactly what they deserved. They can FORGET ABOUT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT. Kerry, Hillary, Edwards, and all those other little cats who voted for war because they thought it would help can kiss my ex-Democrat ass! I will be damned if I vote for any of them for president! The Democratic Party is dead. It was mortally stabbed on December 12, 2024, and finally bled to death on November 5, 2024. Time to start over. Wipe the slate clean. Destroy the whole thing and start again.
    10:59 --

    AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

    No Strategy.

    No Plan.

    No NOTHING.

    ....NO LEADERSHIP!

We need someone with CHUTZPAH!  Where's Bella Abzug when we need her?!

    11:00 --

I'm sick to my stomach - literally!  Heaven help us all!    As an example, however, in 2024 I contacted the Dems via email, internet, & phone to work Gore's campaign.  Never even received any kind of reply.   WHAT, THEY DON'T NEED HELP?    Wait 'til they try & get new Justices to overturn Roe v. Wade.    I feel like I'm strapped in on the Runaway Train.   OH HOW I MISS BILL CLINTON!!!!

    Carol Vail   Oaklyn NJ    vaildance@comcast.net

    11:00 --

In the last presidential election the whole world watched as the office was taken by someone who had not been elected, with the help of his brother and the supreme court. Here in California yesterday, we had a choice between a Democratic sell-out and a corporate criminal. Those who didn't vote have grasped the reality. It doesn't matter what we want.

    11:00 --
This is terrible and good at the same time.  Ever hear of rock bottom.  Well, weve hit it and now can start fighting back.  It can't get worse...  The liberals need to speak up and be heard...  I live in Japan and was visbly sickened by the news... What are you guys doing in America while I'm gone...?

    11:03 --

Am I the only American who thinks Democrats aren't cowed but BLACKMAILED? This is nothing new- Nixon (Bush Sr's boss) was blackmailing progressives 30+ years ago! And like then, the most liberal and least blackmail-able (like Mel Carnahan of MO, Paul Wellstone of MN) just end up dead.

Don't blame Repubs or Demopubs: Blame Americans who vote for them, corn-fed peasants who deny they're getting reamed by worshipping the reamers. Blame Americans who think so little of their children that they pump them full of addictions and violence, then offer them up to the mobsters-in-charge for war.

    11:03 --

    Jeb Bush for President, "2008"

    11:04 --

Mao Tse Tung said, "Political power comes out of the barrel of a gun." But history shows that revolutions, like our elections, merely replace one set of crooks with another. There is a solution to the problem, or rather a political and economic policy that might ameliorate the problems with the present. You wouldn't listen to it though, so it makes no sense to point it out.

11:05 -- What you are not hearing in the conservative media is that Democrats swept every statewide office in California! Think about this: This is the state that gave you Ronald Reagan and Rush Limbaugh(sorry!). The media tried to make it sound like it was a race here but what they wouldn't tell you was that early returns did not include L.A. and San Francisco. The green party canidate out polled Simon in S.F. There were more votes for Lieutenant Gov. than for Gov. and Gray Davis still won. California is the biggest economy in the country; as California goes so will the country eventually. This state out right rejected a conservative Repug.
    11:06 --

We are so screwed. I can't even begin to express my anger and depression. I predict riots in the streets before 2024 rolls around, with brutal repression. Sorry, I can't go on.

11:06 -- An Open Letter to the Democratic National Committee
    11:07 -- Welcome to HELL!
    11:07 --

Say goodbye to democracry, hello to dictatorship! Did all of you vote??? What happened? We are doomed. How could this happen? Do the candidates have you snowed? Does GW have the 666 on his head? How else could he have fooled so many people? The apocalypse is coming.......Jenn in doomed Texas

    11:07 --

Some day, historians will point to the 2024 election and say, This marks the fall of the American republic.

11:07 -- I was an angry dem until I joined the US Green Party. www.gp.org.
11:11 -- It is impossible to underestimate the intelligence of the American Public. I too blame the Greens for acting as the Green Wing of the Republican Party in addition to the Blue Dog tendencies among so called democrats, which have made it so that one side of the aisles of Congress is indistinguishable from the other. Welcome to Jerusalem. What a day of glory for fascist slime balls!!!
11:11 -- I read recently that in Turkey they impose civil fines on citizens who fail to show up to vote. After this election, I think that's a brilliant idea.
11:11 -- Yes I am furious with the Dem "leadership" but it's time for all Dems to roll up our sleeves and self-administer a huge high colonic. Outrage alone ain't gonna do it.
11:13 -- The Democratic leadership blew it and let their people down.  The Republicans were aiming for a one party system and they got it last night, with the exception of the states where a two party political system still exists.  I only hope that between now and 2024 the Dems can get their act together and run someone against Bush that can gain credibility.  I don't believe that person is Al Gore, either.  It needs to be someone new.
11:15 -- The next American president: A Democratic Dark Horse: General Wesley K. Clark
    11:15 --

I'm more than angry.  The above comments say it better than I can articulate at this moment.  But I'm sure happy that you started this site.  I've felt all along that these Democrats have a secret wish to be Republicans.  Well, it seems they got their wish.

    stongat

11:16 -- The Dems are not going to get their act together. They will continue to suck up to the far right, thinking that's the course to power. TIME TO VOTE GREEN! Give up on Hillary Clinton -- she voted for war in Iraq just like Feinstein, Daschle, Lieberman, and other weasels. DON'T EVER VOTE FOR THOSE WHO VOTED WAR IN IRAQ! NO ONE but Russ Feingold (who voted against the fascist PATRIOT Act) and Barbara Lee who voted against Afghanistan war, should be re-elected to Congress. VOTE ALL THE BASTARDS OUT! VOTE GREEN! Dems are DEAD.
11:17 -- I went to sleep in a democracy and woke up in a right wing, fascist dictatorship. How could this happen? What happened to the left wing anti war hippies? Did the heart and soul of the Democratic party die with Paul Wellstone? Linda U. Upstate New York
11:21 -- okay so what are we going to do.  personally i don't feel like whining. i am angry as hell, feel  betrayed and am very afraid of the sinister potential of the current administration.  i am going to educate and respond every time i hear an assinine comment from a republican, especially if it has to do with war and clinton. i am going to volunteer and work with this party for the next 2 years to try and do what our leaders should have done TO TURN THIS MESS AROUND.        LETS STAND FOR SOMETHING AND NOT BE AFRAID.
11:22 -- This is the where the Republicrats have led us. So much for the "people's party," good-bye progressivism, adios to the liberals. The modern democratic leadership has managed to stake out a position just a little to the left of Colin Powell. It's time to kick the bastards out of office and start over. Memo to Dick Gephardt: I'd sooner open a vein than support your presidential bid. Green looks better every day!
11:22 -- THE PEOPLE GET THE GOVERNMENT THEY DESERVE......and we're about to find out. As Chief Justice Rehnquist steps down and hands the gavel to Scalia, and Bush names more right wing Thomases to the Court, we'll be paying for this election for the next thirty years. Rage Against the Machine sang "Bombs over Baghdad"......here we go against the dispossesed everywhere in the world....
    11:22 --

ESAU SOLD HIS BIRTHRIGHT FOR A BOWL OF LENTILS.

TERRY MCCAULIFFE SOLD THE DEMOCRATS' BIRTHRIGHT FOR THOSE SUMPTUOUS CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION CHECKS.

11:22 -- The cowering and whimpering must STOP!!!  Progressive thinkers have nothing to be ashamed of, yet our Democratic leaders are frightened little girls and boys.  Its time to stop playing "not to lose".  We need to dictate a discussion about real issues and not be backed into a corner by Republican scare tactics.  Let Paul Wellstone's vote against Bush's war mongering be a clear example of what you can do if you JUST STAND FOR SOMETHING!!!!   The Republican's have no ideas except that Sadam Hussien is an "evil, evil man".  How hard can it be to beat an opponent with no ideas.  And Vote!!!!  People, you have got to VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!
    11:22 --

It is too convenient to blame the media, the Democratic Party and its tired, pointless, soulless leadership. They are merely the product of our malaise. WE as a nation really need to take a long, hard look at who we are and what we are about as a nation. WE as a country sit on our fat, lazy, fast-food-eating asses and buy into the images, lies and half-truths corporations that prefer us lazy and stupid feed us.  (to be continued...Mich)

    11:23 --

I'm not as angry at the leaders as I am at the lazy Democratic rank and file. I know we needed more help at our local Rep candidate's office yesterday and I bet your Rep and maybe your Senator needed help getting out the vote too. And where were you for the last 2 years. You should have been getting coherent verifiable arguments together and going to mixed message boards to argue our side.

One example: http://members.aol.com/nourbtwtmi2/private/021019/nkoreadecade.html or show people on mixed boards this: http://members.aol.com/nourbtwtmi2/private/021019/nkoreadecade.html and bite those monkeys on the tail.

    11:26 --

    Amerika, circa 2003

The flag waving idiot patriots snuggle in their bunkers, smoking another camel, wondering which domestic beer goes well with Alpo on Ritz crackers.

The Left, bowed, bloody, yet still oddly defiant, decries its irrelevance while warmongers and spooks gleefully masturbate over the latest body count.

The Right, puffed with Faux News Bravado stares into the maw of the very totalitarian regime it has always feared and rolls out the welcome mat. Onward Christian Soldiers!

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

11:26 -- I'm so dissapointed in the Democratic leadership and not surprised by the disasterous results.  What happened to the men and women I admired?   Someone should check John Kerry's basement for a giant "pea pod".   May Paul Wellstone rest in Peace.
11:27 -- "The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders . . . All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the peacemakers for . . . exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
    11:27 --

With the 2024 election, they couldn't get any more obvious and
still get away with it.  Now we've got a party in power that essentially
ran on raising (military) spending while lowering taxes... and they still
    won!
Why?... because they think they don't have to raise taxes to pay
    for higher spending.
How?... by "simply" seizing control of the second largest oil
    supply in the world.
But at what real cost?... At the cost of 10’s of thousands of
lives, they think it's worth it to secure US world domination.
But will the families/friends of the fallen think so?

    11:27 --

Reply to:  [Because of all the independent candidates, significantly less than half of the people who voted, voted Republican.]

And even fewer than that voted Democratic.

The first stage of death -- of a person or a political party -- is denial.

11:27 -- There are 30 million voters between the ages of 22 and 35, and so few of them follow politics or even think it affects them so they don't vote and continue to get ignored.
If we could somehow organize and get the word out that our views and needs are being ignored and explain the reason why, APATHY, then we might be able to get some of the political clout needed to ensure our goals for the future...

    11:28 --
60 year old rich white men are running the country, for the most part, and they care very little about our needs...  I think it's possible to galvanize a group of people who, up to this point in there lives, have had no single defining event that has drawn them together.  Our parent's had the 60's and they banded together to fight for what they believed in and in effect changed the world and saved many lives.  They ensured a better way of lives for themselves and in turn there children.

11:30 -- Today you cry over the 40% turn out. But did you take the time yesterday to drive a voter to the polls, or a few months ago get a  prospective voter registered? I made sure every voter in my family voted, for some just a call to remind, but for others it took alittle more effort. The message to the DNC it should be lets get the local chapters involved. A competion to see which local committe can get the highest percentage of voters out, by voting districts. Let's start working today with the party to make a difference for the next election.  Buck - Pittsburgh, PA
11:31 -- The GOP will kill to win.  First Carnahan, now Wellstone.  Is it just irony that they both went down in a prop plane in the middle of a storm right before the election?  I think not.  The GOP is full of murderers!
11:31 -- it's just like religion, the dems just don't have a vision of heaven that crosses the border, time to reconstruct.
11:32 -- So the Dems didn't bring up the 'war', which most Americans do not support. They didn't bring up the economy, which was the major concern of voters. Why? They didn't want to offend anyone? People might get mad? Spineless wonders. Guess what- you lost anyway! Better to lose from a position of CONVICTION, than to lose and slink away, your tail between your legs. Say good-bye to the environment, to womens rights; say hello to courts stuffed with right-wing conservative judges and WW III. I am Nancy in Va., and I fear for the future of our country.
11:33 -- On October 12, Ferguson Foont of Bare Knuckles Politics told me that I was missing the point, that the Democrats HAD to support the war resolution to get it off the table so they could focus on the economy, social security, etc. I really wanted to be online right now saying "Hey, Ferguson. You were right. That War Resolution strategy was BRILLIANT. Turned out as well as the Gulf of Tonkin vote just like you said. McAuliffe is a GENIUS. Daschle...well, are we TALKING 2024? And calling fellow Democrats names...that's GREAT STUFF TOO!"
11:33 -- When my dog comes in contact with a more aggressive dog, she lies down on her back and pees. That's just what the Democrats have done for the past two years. They don't fight for any issues, they have given the Bush Administration authority to conduct an illegal and immoral war without any accountability. They have just given up. But I haven't . What are we going to have to do to win back our rights by 2024?
    11:35 --

There's nothing more to say about the brainwashing of the public, the smokescreens used by the GOP and the media, or the destruction and tyranny we're now facing thanks to complete GOP control.  I have officially given up on the American people; they are too ignorant, stupid and self-centered to elect qualified leaders, but instead go for the guy with the great hair, the funny commercial, or the tax-cut.   Like Charlie Brown running up to kick the ball over and over, always winding up on his ass, Americans aren't capable of learning from history or their mistakes.  How I long to get the hell out of this nation of morons.

    11:36 --

As long as most of the casualties remain at home and civilian,
rather than US soldiers in Iraq, Republican powers that be
figure they can avoid the fate of LBJ - the last president (before Bush
Sr.) to have a 60% plus approval rating at midterm elections.
However, the US electorate will sooner or later finally decide that they have had enough of fascism.  We will finally realize that, while all nazis are fascists, not all fascists are nazis.

11:37 -- It's a good thing that Canada is so damn cold, and that they don't speak English south of the border, or obviously, there would be a mass exodus by angry Dems! Stop whining, people, get off your asses and start working now or 2024 will just be more of the same ...
11:37 -- WE LOST TO SEPTEMBER 11TH, AND NOTHING ELSE! The very LAST thing we should do is fragment our efforts by joining other parties! Then we end up with the "Minnesota effect!" (Walter Mondale would have WON last night if you tally up the votes from the marginal party candidates!) I'm probably AS upset as everyone else on this page, if not moreso! The smartest thing EVERYONE on this page can do is check their anger at the door and realize it's going to take some serious grass roots COALITION BUILDING--NOT IDEOLOGICAL FRAGMENTATION--to take back our government. Get a grip!
11:38 -- I am 68 years old and I remember when things really were much worse in a horrible sort of way. Every dog has her/his day and I guess the Repubs are having theirs. The pendulum swings both ways and sooner or later, if we don't give up, it will swing back. Winifred Bonney, Old Lyme, CT
11:39 -- After stealing an election, ruining the economy, running up the deficit and killing the stock market people across the country actually voted for more "trickle down perverts" Where's the Democratic Party!!! are we folks her in Pennsylviania the only people not afraid to stand up to these facist dirtbags....GOODBY RIDGE, FISHER .........HELLO RENDELL!!! Come on DEMOCRATS  STAND UP TO THESE MORONS. what if John Hancock said "geee...king george is popular maybe I'll wait a couple of years to sign the D.O.C....NO.....HE SIGNED IT IN THE MIDDLE  BIG AS HE COULD SO GEORGE COULD SEE IT WITHOUT HIS GLESSES......Come on dem. leadership don't be afraid to "Sign your name LARGE!!!"
    11:39 --

Everyone is trying to avoid the obvious, which is that it is hopeless to try to reform the Democratic Party, which has decided that it is more important to win than to stand on principal, unlike (to their credit) the Republicans who, beginning with Barry Goldwater, were willing to lose election after election, for almost twenty years, until their minority view became the majority.

    11:41 --

They own it all now, folks.  And they hate you.

For now, think of your own best interests.  DO NOT patronize any Republican-contributing businesses and stores this holiday!

Buy used on-line..buy thru small independent like-minded companies....use your imagination.  NO Penneys.  No Wal Mart, etc. Hit 'em where it hurts.

OUR LEADERSHIP HAS LET US DOWN....and we have a warmonger in the Whitehouse with unlimited power.  God help us all.

    11:41 --

I am so damned angry and depressed that I want to start screaming at people!  At the miserable corporate media, such as FOX, CNN and MSNBC which have done nothing but shill for the Republicans for years now.  At the gutless Democrats in the House and Senate who did not take on Bush Jr. and his minions when there was plenty of information and lots of opportunities.  And at the Democratic voters who did not bother to get off their asses to vote.

Do people have to have their sons and daughters come home in body bags before they wake up?  JESUS, WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE?

11:41 -- Frankly, I debated voting Green, but decided the stakes were too high. Now I wish I had just gone ahead and done it. At least I wouldn't feel like I wasted my vote on a bunch of sycophants. Well, the most anti-environment, anti-middle-class, christian-wacko administration in my lifetime is now in charge. Welcome to the Forth Reich!!
    11:42 --

Bill Clinton is the only Democrat who can win anything. We need to learn from him, campaign like him, stand up for the issues he did, and work like he did!

    11:42 --

To the Democrats in Congress:   Now that they are in power let them run things. You just hold their coats from now on. They have the power, they have the majority. Let them put their own names on their legislation. DO NOT PUT YOUR NAMES ON THEIR LEGISLTION. Force them to vote and sponser their own bills. Allow the American people to see with their own eyes what they stand for. The Republicans know how to get elected but do they know how to govern? Let's find out.

11:43 -- So Amerika has finally embraced its inner troglodyte.  We're on the Highway to Hell (fast lane) for certain, now.  Hey Democratic Leadership...instead of praising Wellstone, why don't you ACT LIKE HIM?
11:43 -- I would rather the Democrats have go down fighting than go down cringing.  I'm not ashamed to have supported the Democrats, but I am embarassed to have done so.  I suppose it's difficult to display the courage of one's convictions when one doesn't have any.
    11:43 --

I've sent the following message to the Democratic National Committee (at http://www.democrats.org/contactus.html

"I'm a lifelong Democrat but am thoroughly disgusted with the namby-pamby 'Middle of the Road' posturing of the current Demo leadership - my own senator Feinstein voted FOR Bush's war powers act and most of the Demo leaders can hardly be discerned from their Republican counterparts! So I'm registering Green today....if you get a presidential candidate who has a pulse and some vision, give a holler."

If YOU'd like to register Green Party, check out http://www.greenpartyus.org/ and their Ten Key Values of grassroots democracy, social justice, ecological wisdom, non-violence, decentralization, community-based economics, feminism, diversity, responsibility and future focus.

11:44 -- Symptoms of many illnesses get worse right before they are eradicated... Sometimes they get worse right before they kill you as well.. so lets hope a ride in W's hot wired gubbermint gets people queasy enough to vote for non repubs next time. Find the voices within this party that have a focus and some drive and get behind them. Kucinich is one of the only voices I heard talking about moderation. Start grooming him for a Clinton, Kucinich ticket. The pendulum swings both ways. Be ready.
11:44 -- The Democratic party has shamed its jackass mascot.
F*cking sheep to the slaughter is more like it.

    11:44 --

I would add  flagrant whores like Zell Miller, Joe Lieberman and Dick(!!!) Gephardt to the list of "leaders" whose true calling is Judas goat.

11:45 -- I fear for my children's future!  We live in SC (one of the MOST Repugnant --er, Repulican states in the country) and I feel like we are in serious trouble.  Fundamental rights will be squashed by the far-right wing.   Education, or what passes for it down here, will continue to rot.  But the Right wing conservatives don't want the people educated because then they start questioning and become discontent with their lot in life.  God help us all!-- a Mom

    WE MUST RESIST

11:45 -- The party has moved away from the working family.  They are concentraiting on those that require a hand out to live.  If the party moves back to the middle class working families then we can be in power again.  I am disenfranchised because the party of today resembles socialism.  It is the reason that the Elephants are running the show now.
    11:46 --

It's a sad day for the environment, reproductive rights, civil liberties, freedom of thought, economic prosperity, social services, charity and pretty much everything else that's good.  Maybe the next couple of years will be a wake up call to the idle American electorate (if you can call people whose votes don't get counted an "electorate").  In the meantime, people are going to suffer (and I'm not just talking about innocent Iraqi school kids).

    Next stop: The Sudetenland!

11:47 -- Blame the media? Blame the voting machines? Come on, folks, get real and BLAME YOURSELVES! Anyone who didn't vote shouldn't post to this or any other site. And what the hell happened in Georgia? Tell me how some weasely draftdodging R managed to convince voters Max Cleland - triple amputee Vietnam vet -- wasn't a patriot?
    11:49 --

I AM MAD AS HELL....who to blame?  I have done my damn best in lighting a fire under other citizens to vote....to think....am an activist--lifelong yellow dog dem but this is IT!  Next time I will vote third party....those who represent the WORKING CLASS'es INTERESTS....no more corporate pimps running our congress and hustling the rest of America into "perpetual war"....its so good for the military industrial complex.....so BAD FOR PEOPLE.

11:49 -- I cried myself to sleep last night and woke up more pissed off than ever. Not just pissed at the lying, deceitful Repubs, but at my own wimpy Dem leadership and voters! But I cannot shake this feeling that something weird is going on - I mean, Wellstone dies just a few weeks ago and his race was a tight one and now the Repubs control everything despite the fact that Bush is a moron...I am NOT a Christian, but I am starting to believe he really is the ANTI-CHRIST!!!
    11:50 --

I'm not a person prone to depression, but today is different.  I can barely read my newspapers and checking my usual websites only makes me feel worse.  I feel helpless--in fact, this is exactly the same feeling I had in November, 2024.

I just don't get it--I'm not without a few firing brain cells and I just can't see how anyone can vote Republican let alone admit to being one.  I'm in California and, for me, the only bright spot today is that Gray Davis (D-CA) beat out the clueless Bill Simon.

I know I'll get past this, but what do we do next??

As we see it this is a "BUSH BUDDY SYNDROME"

If the Bush buddies like WAR so DAMN much then why in the HELL don't they volunteer to go fight it???

Bush has brought forth a "WAR MONGERING SOCIETY WORLDWIDE" and will start a worldwide "CIVIL WAR" that will be a never ending conflict.

11:52 -- How is it that the Republicans can run ideological extremists and WIN and the the Democrats can't do either? How is it that Clinton got years of smack for "not inhaling" pot, but Dubya gets nothing for being a (former) alcoholic? b/c the media attacks everyone, but only the RNC has the tenacity to fight back. This election was SO for the taking, but even tho liberal Democrats had a MARTYR in Wellstone, we couldn't win? WTF?
    11:52 -- i'm scared.

11:53 -- ALL YOUR SENAT ARE BELONG TO US!
11:53 -- The republicans and democrats are the parties of the wealthy. They do not represent working people and poor people. Everyone knows it. But has anyone else noticed how paranoid about organization and leadership most progressives are? The war-mongers are winning because we're letting them. Let's get organized. If you are in Vermont, write to me at cristobl@laplaza.org. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves. Strategic planning and grassroots activism will get us what we want. Peter Alexander
11:53 -- The democratic leadership should take a lesson from the republican party. The republicans know how to run campaigns even though can not do much else. Look at what they have done with all the idiots they have gotten elected.

If you don't stand for SOMETHING, then you really don't stand for ANYTHING!  Democrats, you're fired!!! Time to take back the term liberal and not cower when it is used- apparently things have to get really nasty for the Democratic establishment to realize that the progressives didn't leave the party, it was the party that DISSED the progressives! SCREW THAT. -angry in san francisco

    11:54 --

Terry McCauliffe got caught up in a stupid game of revenge....yanking $$$ out of other states and ignoring the Rocky Mountain West just to get revenge on The Simian and his pork-faced brother, Jebby.  Don't blame the DLC.

    11:54 --

Hopefully it won't be too late - by the time we realize a leader can be a fascist or fascist sympathizer without being a nazi and by the time we get tired of fascism - to simply vote anti-fascists back into power (i.e. those who are pro-democracy and freedom for all and against "the ends justifies the means")... without having to first fight to win back the right to do so.  mnl11@columbia.edu

    11:55 --

I'm an African American.  They failed to support McKinney, Kirk &  McCall.  We realized there are no differences between the Demo and the Repubs.  In order for the Democrats to survive, they need to combine the Dem, Lib and Green parties.  In an election, the parties should have a run off and the person chosen should be supported.   I think this is the only way to beat the Repubs.  The Democrats did not stand against the War on Iraq.  It will be our sons and daughters fighting this WAR ON OIL.  Until we are included into this party, there will be no victories to celebrate.

11:55 -- It's not only the Democratic leadership, but some of the Democrats themselves. "President Bush is criticized not just for catastrophically frittering away our budget surplus or for rushing us into a mess in Iraq. Rather, Citizens for Legitimate Government put it this way in its e-mail newsletter: "We have an Idiot Usurping Lying Weasel for a President." Close your eyes, and it sounds just like Rush Limbaugh." Grow up, don't be a Liberal Rush.
11:56 -- Yeah, bring back Bubba!!
11:56 -- I WANT TO SEE CANDIDATES WITH I.Q.'S ABOVE 120 AND SAT SCORES ABOVE 1350. IF GEORGE BUSH IS SMARTER THAN US, WE DESERVE TO LOSE. WITH THE DEATH OF PAUL WELLSTONE, I WAS LEFT WITHOUT A SINGLE CANDIDATE TO INSPIRE ME. I'M SURE WE FOLDED ON THE IRAQ RESOLUTION BECAUSE WE WANTED TO GET BACK TO OUR ISSUES. LET'S NOT DO THAT AGAIN! WE NEED TO GIVE FULL BATTLE TO EVERY ISSUE. HASSLE THE GOP TO DEATH! WE DON'T NEED THEIR FRIENDSHIP - WE NEED A MAJORITY IN BOTH HOUSES.
    11:57 -- we agree
11:57 -- The dems have only themselves to blame - they never fought! Perhaps they are owned by the same people that own Bush. For myself, I am trying to decide between Australia, New Zealand and Canada C in Milwaukee
    11:59 --
McAulliffe? He's just the errand boy.  IT'S CLINTON YOU FOOLS! Send the boy out to pasture with his blondes and his 50k a pop seminar appearances. He is POISON. With Bill around, the party has no moral compass, and NO SOUL. He sucks the life out of everything.

    11:59 --

IT'S TOO EASY TO BLAME THE OBVIOUS:   PITIFUL, WEAK DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP.   IF YOU DON'T THINK THE CORPORATE-OWNED, FOR-PROFIT MEDIA IS THE REAL ENEMY, YOU AREN'T PAYING ATTENTION!

THE REPUGLICAN'S DIDN'T WIN THEIR RACES, THEY BOUGHT THEM - WITH NEGATIVE, FALSE ADVERTISING AND NO CHECK FROM THE MEDIA!  ALSO, WITH QUESTIONABLE ELECTRONIC VOTING APPARATUS - AGAIN WITH NO CHECKS!

BUT THEY WERE LOYAL TO THE SHEEP WHO FOLLOW THEM, WHILE DEMOCRATS RUN FROM ANYTHING REMOTELY LIBERAL.  (COMPRISED OF GARDEN VARIETY REDNECKS (HATERS), ANTI-CHOICE ZEALOTS, PRO-GUN NUTS, AND THE "I GOT MINE, YOU GET YOURS" RICH).

12:01 -- Who are we fooling? There IS no Democratic party anymore. There are just the "Republocrats," and they don't really represent anyone in this country. I firmly believe that we have to get to a very low point in order for any real change to come about, like the emergence of a true opposition party (maybe the Greens, maybe the Independents, maybe the Reforms, who knows?) The only Democrat I voted for who listened to his constituents was Charles Rangel, who I will continue to vote for as long as he continues to do the right thing. See ya, Hil and Chuck! I'm goin' Green and ya can't stop me!!!!!!
12:02 -- i am very disappointed in the so-called DLC and DNC Congress election results--did those fools really think being buddied with 8 would help them? Before we dems can even start planning for 2024, it's time to have a regime change of our own 'leaders"--Tom Dick, Terry, you're fired!
12:02 -- 1. All Democrats need to read "Blinded by the Right" and get the message out that REPUBLICANS ARE MOONIES (financed in large part by Rev. Moon's Unification Church. 2. We need to start impeachment proceedings, file ethical complaints, and do whatever is necessary to draw attention to the illegal and unethical behavior that is going on with the FEDERALIST SOCIETY JUDGES and the Republican elected officials. 3. We need to quit infighting and tell Ralph Nader to get over himself. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE REPUBLICAN AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTIES. Anyone who doesn't realize that now will realize it in the next two years.
12:04 -- McAuliffe, Daschle, and Gephardt, take a long f*cking walk and don't come back!!!Their complete lack of leadership and credibility cost us the Senate.
12:06 -- Get Your War ON!
    12:08 --

Hey, Terry.  You wanted to be head of the Democratic Party.  You got what you wanted.  Now get this...

I'm changing my party affiliation from "D" to "I".

Through your incompetence, you've turned my beloved homeland into a one-party country -- a dictatorshipCONGRATULATIONS, you moron.

12:09 -- The Democratic party, at least within the past 10 years, has never represented anything significantly different from the Republicans... so why all the demonization of the Republicans? The Democrats are just as bad. There IS no choice that really matters, because both parties recognize that if they want to be competitive, they have to embrace the middle road.
    12:11 --

I Knew we were in trouble went I hear on the radio that Kerry, Kennedy and all but Wellston suddenly changed their votes on Bushs  Iraq-war cry!   Saddam Hussin in no more threat to you or me yesterday or today! God! it makes me soooo mad that Bush in riding the  9/11 fear factor and convicing people that we Have to bomb Iraq  which is another reason it makes me sooo mad at all the Demorcates for caving in one by one on the senate floor. How in the world can we get someone in the oval office who Truly speaks for the people when the democrates keep wussing out???

12:11 -- Demorats who voted in lock step w/ Bush were targeted by him for defeat. I wonder hoe they feel today! Daschle, Gephardt, and McAuliffe must go! Our heart, soul, and courage were lost in that plane crash in Minnesota! God help us all!
12:12 -- I'm sick and tired of Daschle talking to his constituency like they're 12 year old dullards. We need new leadership, Zel Miller is the only dem that doesn't disappoint me. I think any dems that had anything to do with the Clintons need to be weeded out and freeze dried - they're clueless, think the world revolves around them, and are bad for the country.
12:16 -- Grab your gas masks and life-packs! Head for the bomb shelters! Stay away from tall buildings! Kiss your ass goodbye!!!
12:17 -- I LEFT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY BACK IN 1996 BECAUSE IT WAS CLEAR THAT THEY WERE HAVING AN IDENTITY CRISIS....APPARENTLY THEY ARE STILL LOST IN A "CENTRIST" NIGHTMARE AND PERHAPS THEY WILL NEVER WAKE UP. LET THE GREENS TAKE OVER!!!! THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHO THEY ARE, AND THEIR CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE MANIPULATED BY CORPORATE CONTRIBUTIONS. ON WITH THE GREEN REVOLUTION!!!!
    12:19 --

       STOP BLAMING THE VICTIM

If this site is for real, then let's look at the real enemy. The right wing media, the official arm of the Bush White House. We blamed Gore because his presidency was stolen. Now we blame the Democrats because they were assassinated by the media and the Republicans (one maybe literally so). Terry Mac is not the enemy. The media and the GOP are.Wake up!
    12:22 --

The reign of terror begins today.  Abortion will be outlawed, handgun ownership will be mandatory, judges will all be to the right of Attila the Hun, the streets will be crammed with crazy, despairing Homeless and Iraq will be reduced to a charred, smoking cinder.  The only hope we have is that Robert Byrd can filibuster for the next two years without stopping to go to the bathroom.

12:22 -- PROGRESSIVES: DO NOT make the mistake of fleeing to third parties (like the arrogant, benighted Greens). As asinine and boneheaded as the Democratic leadership tactics were this election, THIS IS NOT EUROPE!! Like it or not, we live in a WINNER TAKE ALL, TWO PARTY SYSTEM! If you're angry as hell, like me, and want progressive change, work your asses off to reform the Democratic Party from within in the next two years. Vote in disgust AGAINST Democrats in 2024, it **WILL** be a vote FOR DUBYA! HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE, PLEASE!
12:23 -- Levin of Michigan and Durbin of Illinois should serve as examples to the gutless Senate Democrats.
12:24 -- Al Sharpton is the only Democrat left with the stature and clout to lead the party.
12:25 -- Put your principles where you rhetoric is: Lets run a "diverse" race in 2024 in which each party must have a "balanced" ticket with a WASP (white anglo-saxon prodestant) a minority (preferable black as the largestminority group) and each must have a male and female candidate (gender-neutral don't youknow)For the Republicans:  George Bush and COndolezza RiceFor the Democrats:    Hillary Clinton and Jesse JacksonNow that would be a real "special election!"
12:26 -- Mr. Daschle, Maybe you weren't cooperative enough with the President. I mean, you gotta admit, he's pretty charismatic. It's not your fault the he's soooo popular. But anyway, at least you're still in the Senate, where you can be witness to the various legislative actions that will dismantle any last remnants of our democracy. Hey, that's something! It'll make a real interesting memoir, I think. By the way, feel free to take that memoir idea, I won't sue or anything. So take care and thanks much for your service to our great country. Yours sarcastically, TBK
    12:28 --

The Democratic Party is out of touch with voters and party members.  This election was ours for the taking..and we lost. Why? because we had nothing we stood for, plain and simple.  Being negative, while not offering anything in exchange, produces the results of yesterdays election.

One example, that is garnering NO media attention, is the AMT tax.  The Dems could have used this to stand for something.  NO permanant BUSH tax cut for the  1% wealthest tax payers until we take care of the 36 MILLION middle class taxpayers that will be effected by this tax.  HOW HARD IS THAT TO REPEAT OVER AND OVER???????????????

    12:28 --

I am disgusted.  The Ds caved in to GWB, thinking it would help them when in actuality it hurt like h3ll.  Had they run an issues-oriented campaign, they could have taken the Senate and possibly the House.  Just look at all the Ds who voted against Iraq:  they were all re-elected!!!  Time for the Ds to take a stand or get outta the freakin' way...

Also, time for McAuliffe to go. Same for Daschle and every D who voted for (un)PATRIOT(ic) and the Iraq resolution!

I have 2 things to say:  Howard Dean in 2024 and bring back James Carville!!!

12:31 -- Will the person that find's Tom Daschle's balls please return them to Hillary Clinton?
    12:33 --

I am from Texas and got to see first hand what an evil, devils minion GW was then and is now.  I am even more resolute in pushing for a strong Independent who can do more than Bitch and Moan.  I want an Independent to say NO to W and his "false profit" cronies.  I want someone to fight this bullshit "War on Terror". I want someone to stick a fucking boot up the sorry piece shit's ass!  The current Democratic leadership is nothing but cowards!  Every damn one of them!

12:33 -- Considering that maybe 10% of the citizens of this country benefit from Republican strategies suggests they do an amazing job with the spin. They get a lot of idiots -- people whose lives will never be better under a Republican monarch -- to sign on for their joy-less ride. The Democrats need to get back to basics and spend the next two years figuring out how to educate the electorate about the differences between us and them. We cannot continue to let the Republicans dictate the message as they did through this election cycle. Greg Stewart
12:33 -- It's Hitler and the Reichstag all over again and the American people have fallen for it hook line and sinker. The next world war is just around the bend and the American lemmings, I mean people have given Bush a mandate to start it. Last night was the most inportant election in Democratic history and the democraps blew it. Our nation is screwed!
12:34 -- I am furious. The Democrats have no guts anymore. I can't believe what has happened. Does this sound like it might be true? "Come the millennium, month 12, In the home of the greatest power, the village idiot will come forth to be aclaimed the leader." It happened. Get rid of Daschle and Gephardt while you are at it. Mad in Florida.
    12:35 --

If we are going to lose, I would rather do it standing up for justice, peace and the little guy than appease the corporations and still lose. It is time the Democrats forget about being CENTRIST and stand up for what they believe.

    12:37 --

What in hell can we expect  from spineless so-called leaders that are more concerned about kissing Bush's ass than they are about standing up for the people they represent.Well some of them are now jobless so perhaps they can begin thinking for themselves. Hey maybe the economy should have been on the national debate agenda????!!!!

    TOO LATE STUPID!!!!!

12:38 -- All the races were CLOSE! Simply, Stop blaming, and LEARN from your own mistakes. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! in 2024! Do it for our future, DO IT FOR YOUR CHILDREN! A vote for a Democrat is a VOTE AGAINST THE EVIL DICTATOR! We need to make the AWOL, DWI, White House resident thief GOP sock puppet go away! All Jews that voted for a republican shame on you! Can we kill something now? "The people can always be brought to do the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism." --Nazi leader Hermann Goering.
12:38 -- This is why I vote for GREENS in local elections.  I can't stand the Dem leadership!  And by the way, Greens DON'T spoil elections--crappy Dems and crappy candidates and crappy leadership and the election system spoil elections.  I am going to burn my little Dem donkey pin in effigy (hope I spelled that right).  I am only thankful that I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, one of the few progressive bastions left in America.  Thanks for putting up this site!
12:41 -- For the next months don't look for original Republican legislation, instead look for a breathtaking undoing of every piece of Democratic, populist legislation that's come down the pike in the last three decades; affirmative action, Roe v Wade, Alternative Minimum Tax, FOIA (FOIA is now officially DOA in America), Brady Bill or any gun legislation, tough SEC rules, ad nauseam, it's all going in the can.  Now we can all watch as a new US-lead war breaks out within two months from today.  Thanks to those who voted.  The rest of you who sat quietly by in apathetic self-righteousness and didn't vote: UP YOURS!
12:43 -- <P>We should have and could have done better.  We now live in an Orwellian world where the "war on terror" will be used to justify everything from the complete devolution of civil liberties to doubling the defense budget.  There is no stopping Bush's "conservative nominees" to the federal bench now (anybody remember how much trouble Clinton had in getting his judicial appointments confirmed?).</P>
<P>They are in charge now.  If we can weather the next two years, the Republicans will be, as they always have been, their own worst enemies.  The American people will turn them all out in droves.</P>
<P>But we should have won this one.</P>
    12:43 --

RE: VOTING MACHINES:   Attempts were made to examine the code used in the machines in Florida.  The attempt was blocked in the courts by the GOP citing "proprietary/trade secrecy" protections under law.  Upshot is that the DNC could not ascertain how the machines tabulated votes and how accurately.  As mentioned above: it is easy to write code to alter tabulations in any number of ways.  A scary thought:  why did VNS suddenly fail to release exit poll data?  Could it have been in wide variance with machine tabulated results?

12:43 -- THE DEMOCRATS HAVE FAILED THE LEFT! THERE IS NO LEGITIMATE VOICE OF OPPOSITION...WHERE IS LEADERSHIP FOR JUSTICE, PEACE AND DIVERSITY!! I'M DISENHARTENED, AT BEST!
12:44 -- Our country should be ashamed, it's all about MONEY, and not about the people! Get off your fat wallets, and get the vote out in 2024!
12:44 -- Tomorrow I change to the Independent Party. The Dems are a bunch of pussies and do not even know how to fight. Got to give the Republicans credit: they fight, they fight hard, and they fight dirty...how else could such a small amount of people now control the entire USA?
    12:45 --

Thank god for Nancy Pelosi who actually confronted the issue of the day-- Terrorism and how to combat it.

Charles Atlas was right.  You let people kick sand in your face, you lose.  If the issue is Terrorism and PeaceDep switches the enemy to Iraq because they lost in Afghanistan and can't find Osama and Israel is depressing, and you let them get away with it?   Need to improve law and order worldwide, not having the CIA blow random people to smitherines in Yemen without interrogating them.  Hitler learned his lesson about fighting on two many fronts... we're next.

Now more than ever, we need to Impeach Bush!

    12:50 --

There is a problem of conscience not just among the leaders, but among the followers. When many Democrats are motivated by self-interest, it’s hypocritical to judge leaders for not caring about the will of the people. Not only a reality check of politics is necessary, but a reality check of conscience. References to the Holocaust and to African enslavement are not extreme but appropriate. The silence of the "middle class," or more truly, people who perceive themselves to have something to protect, always allows atrocities to continue and the suffering of other human beings to go on unchecked.

    12:51 --

I darned near "turned Green" during the 2024 election fiasco when I found out that Joe Lieberman was the VP candidate.  If I wanted a republican in office, I'd vote for one with an "R" after his name.  During the ensuing two years, I thought, "I'll give the Dems one last chance in 2024".  Well, look where that got me.  It's time for a REAL opposition party; November 6, 2024 was the wake up call.

    12:52 --

Would someone please start a NEW PARTY with TRADITIONAL DEMOCRATIC values? and so there is no mistaking just who we are, let's call ourselves LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!

12:52 -- Pardon me for injecting some reality into the world, but the truth is that the Congress is still basically split 50-50. The GOP did gain seats and this is a huge win for their agenda, but it is no mandate and certainly not a landslide for the GOP. A last second field goal is a huge win, but certainly not an indication of a blowout. stevie g
    12:53 --

KEEP YOUR AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP.  we need votes.

send a check to DLC for $0 and tear it up. target conservative Dems in primaries or vote Green while continuing to support the Dems who care. Greens would not have to support Dem leadership It's hard to take the step to vote for a minor party, but if we don't have guts to lose principal, Dem leadership never will.

Stay on message.conspiracy theories aren't what's important now.

Don't despair! other ideas? contact pdonnelly@ncrw.org ( work address. no viruses or things that would get me fired please.)

    Solidarity forever!!!

12:53 -- I'm still numb and in denial......it had to have been rigged....especially in FL...who in their right mind would vote for that moron!  It just goes to show how easily the public is manipulated and controlled by the media.  I guess, as we've seen, you can commit murder and get away with it in this country if you have enough money and you can be a complete moron and get elected if you have enough money.  I'm going back to bed and hope the nausea goes away soon.....
    12:56 --

    I truly can't believe what's happend.  I'm ashamed to be a democrat.
Wait, that's probably the way it should be.

    12:57 -- GORE-RICHARDSON
    12:58 --

I have a question?  Does anyone know the makeup of the 60% that didn't turn out to vote yesterday?  Women? Minorities? Younger Voters?  If the 60% represents a large part of the Dem base then there is hope...if we can just find a way to re-energize them!  I am not a religious woman, but right now, I don't know what else to do but to close the shades, lock the door, climb under the covers and pray!

    TD - Indiana

    12:58 --

Here in Minnesota Coleman's win is most disappointing of all.

Mondale? What the hell were the DFL thinking? Who cares how angry the Republicans were at the Wellstone memorial for being a political rally by the oppressive conservative MN-Media. Hello people, he was a politician, clear and simple. Democrats didn't loose in MN because we rallied behind our beloved dead senator. We lost because no one was really willing to stand up and fight. To fight for Wellstones liberal legacy. David should have stepped up for his father. There I said it...David Wellstone let his fathers legacy die when he didn't step forward and fight.

    12:59 --

    Two statements come to mind...

The first one I'm sure someone else has stated, the second perhaps also, but they are both describe our condition to a tee:

    We reap what we sow.

    &

When you dance with the devil, you will go to hell.

    13:00 -- Losers Top 10:
    • 10. Dems never pointed out how US fighters stood down on 9/11
    • 9. Afraid to point out how War is Stupid, Bush is Hell
    • 8. WJC's successful (for him) "triangulation"; they lost their way
    • 7. So they act more like republicans than differentiate themselves
    • 6. Democrat sounds like bureaucrat
    • 5. Republican sounds like american
    • 4. Let themselves be called Liberal w/o comment
    • 3. Fail to point out the Jesus was the Liberal, and
    • 2. Romans that killed him were the conservatives.
    • 1. Never pointed out how '94 Republican "Contract On America" gave us Enron, Worldcom...

    13:00 --

I'm glad to see this.  I hope that the Dem "leadership" sees this.  Well, Terry, Tom, and Dick, this is what you're gonna have to put up with for the rest of your last respective terms in office.

I really think its time to just clean up and get rid of spineless politicians with legs made of rubber trying to pretend they're taking a real stand.  Well, you weren't there for Clinton, you weren't there for Gore.

Now we won't be there for you!!!!

13:02 -- IT PISSES ME OFF!!! IT'S GOOD TO VENT.  WHY CAN'T WE BE AS ORGANISED AS THEY ARE???
13:02 -- Very scary times: it would seem that the GOP is bent on the complete destruction of the Democratic Party. All you Greens out there, better wise-up.  You are too insignificant politically right now to be in the GOP gunsight, but once they finish off us Dems, you will be next.  Democrats better retreat to what bastions of power we have left, secure the voting machine process in those bastions, and get ready to weather a politico-economic attack designed to eradicate us as a viable party.
13:03 -- WE NEED TO TAKE OVER!!!!!!!!Come on guys, become your county dem chair, take over your college dems, do whatever you can!! if we start from the bottom we can take over the top, but we gotta do it before 04!!! REAL democrats of America, UNITE!!!
    13:04 --

I am sick of namby-pamby, pink-tutu-wearing dems who can't set themselves apart from the Republican party without apologizing and kissing Bush's ass.  We need a good-ole-fashioned, fighting Liberal with a capital "L" to lead us!

    13:05 --

I don't entirely blame the Democratic Leadership for last night...they had some very tight races in conservative states and liberal states.  We're damned for being too liberal in Minnesota (Mondale, Wellstone) and, laughably, in Georgia as well(Cleland).  The country definitely has been brainwashed into thinking that liberalism is a bad thing. Somehow we'll need to overcome the Republicans' control of the media, and their huge campaign war chest.  How do we do it?  Maybe we'll have to wait even more patiently for the voting public to figure out they're being screwed, and then perhaps liberals will be appreciated.

    13:05 --

It's going to take a generation to un-do the damage done yesterday.  I'm taking my American flag sticker off my car today, I want there to be no mistake.  I want to be proud of my country, not ashamed... and I can't be proud of what this country will become in the hands of the men the Dems have handed our leadership to.

Shame on all of you Dems on the Hill.  Shame on you for kow-towing to Bush, shame on you for your weak convictions.  Shame on you for letting us all down.

13:06 -- If I had wanted Republicans in congress I would have voted for a Republican. We need to get back to our populous Democratic roots.
    13:08 --

O Canada! Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

    From far and wide,

O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada! we stand on guard for thee

    (repeat)

Even tho I'm a re-registered indy, that light at the end of the tunnel is a WW3 freight train...I wonder who the repugs will blame when they phuck things up! Carter???

    Jewell, Cincinnapathy

13:08 -- Don't blame me, they Democrats didn't even RUN a candidate in my state. Virginia Republican John Warner just waltzed back into office. Talk about feeling completely powerless and voiceless.....
13:09 -- This is the end of the world as we know it.  And most people don't even know THAT.  Sigh.
    13:09 --

We are back in an era of McCarthyism-- "Oh, those bad terrorists are here hiding among us." "Either you're for the Republicans or aiding terrorists..."  Last night proved this is true--Republicans have control of all three branches of government for the first time in 50 years.  Terrorism is the red herring for railroading special interests through Washington.

Democrats: Situate yourselves as a viable alternative or step aside for someone else who can get the job done!

13:10 -- The Freepers must be looking at this website with joyful glee.  Don't you think  Karl Rove wants us to beat ourselves up, and call our party irrelevant?  I understand that we're all angry, but can we please try to be a bit constructive to our party?
    13:11 --

The DNC has compromised to gain middle-of-the-road votes, slush money, and the patriotic glow that comes from licking the alpha male's boots in "war"-time.  Where did the DNC agenda go?  You know, the one where the rights of workers, minorities, women, children, the poor, and the environment were protected.  Remember that?  We have TWO YEARS  to recapture the party, reinstitute democractic principles and issues, and fund and support Democratic candidates who won't make us sick or ashamed.

We need to beat the DNC (almost) as much as we need to beat the GOP.

13:11 -- There is no democracy in this country anyway, so that would explain why there are no Democrats
13:11 -- Dearest DLC- Now that you've brought my country to brink of annihilation- and succumbed to the dictator in charge- leaving millions of Americans at risk---let me just say, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY PARTY!!!!!!!! Your "moderation" plan didn't work. And now we're fucked!!! JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS?! FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!
    13:11 --

This is RIDICULOUS.  What kind of party have we become!?!?!??!  This is only the THIRD TIME SINCE THE CIVIL WAR THIS HAS HAPPENED!!!!!  Last night John McCain said that if things didn't change, a REAL centrist third party was going to form.  I think he's right.  Maybe something like that NEEDS to happen.

    13:11 --

DAG NAB IT, mCAWFUL, u varmit!

BILL HIRED YOU, HE NEEDS TO FIRE YOU AND TAKE THE JOB OVER HIMSELF!

13:12 -- I would like to thank every single principled Democrat senator that actually saw through Shrubby's facade and voted against war in Iraq. Mr. Wellstone, you have my thanks, and you will be missed. To every other Democrat in the Senate - You're fired. Pack up your office by 4:30. You have failed to represent the people who voted you into office. Get out.
13:16 -- I just emailed my senators and rep (all are D) demanding the removal of Daschle and Gephart, and their replacement with progressives. Just one voice, but go on, add yours.
    13:17 --

Step 1) vomit.  Step 2) weep and gnash your teeth over the future of democracy and the inevitability of war.  Step 3) get off your ass and fight for democracy and the liberal principles the DNC used to stand for!  We have to question the news, get informed, teach, protest, push politicians away from the center, promote candidates on the left, get out the vote, and TAKE BACK THE PARTY AND THE COUNTRY!  The GOP has hijacked the DNC as well as the presidency --- Regime change begins at home!!!

    13:18 --

Time for Jim Hightower and his Rolling Thunder campagin! Here in Florida we have a Silly Reform Party. Guess I'll switch to that. It's gotta be more intelligent than the Dems!

    13:18 --

Whoa!  Killer interface here.  I am indeed impressed.

As a Libertarian, I'm pretty disgusted with both the Republicrats and Demopublicans.  One wants to invade my bedroom, the other wants to tax me to death.  The whole system is ABSOLUTELY CORRUPT.  I think it's time for the Libertarians and Greens to form a coalition party as a real alternative.

    EvilDave OUT!

13:18 -- Bill Clinton, if you can you feel our pain, WHERE ARE YOU?
    13:20 --

    13:21 --

I want to CRY. I feel as though I am LOST. This is why I registered Green, atleast they stand for something. They hold strong to their values and do not give into this Bullshit that the Republicans force feed us and in our apathetic, sad, little world, we, of course, believe. I need something to feel whole again, I need a reason to believe that American Democracy exists.

Until then, I will be in France, anyone care to join me?

13:22 -- So what is to be done? How do we fight against the caprices and foul designs of Pax Americana? I for one am not going to sit quietly while they draft my husband for their perma-war, strip women of their right to reproductive freedom, and undermine the Bill of Rights with their lies and "free speech zones".
    13:23 --

The Senate Dems had better hold back the radical right judicial appointments or I'll be supporting the Green Party from now on.

13:27 -- If you're going to lose, it's better to stand for something and lose than to stand for nothing and lose. We're doomed. -- Bill in TX
13:28 -- I agree with most everything said.  The Dems are just Reps in disguise.  They're both a bunch of hypocrits being controlled by the rich corporations and PAC's like the pharmaceutical companies, the NRA, and the religious wrong.  I was so mad last night that I was ready to move to another country.  Australia sounds pretty good right now.
13:29 -- for god's sakes, please, please, PLEASE let's see to it that we don't have gore or lieberman on the '04 ticket.  we'll get laughed out of the contest--AGAIN.
13:30 -- IT IS TIME FOR DASCHLE AND GEPHARDT TO GO--CONTACT ALL DEMOCRATIC(?) OFFICALS AND TELL THEM SO. I AM SO MAD I COULD SPIT!
    13:31 --

This isn't your grandparents Democratic party anymore.  We just got SUCKERPUNCHED by our own leadership who instead of fighting, have chosen to walk softly and carry their limp dicks. We need a Democratic party who stands up for the WORKING people of this great country.  Cut middle and lower class taxes and not the taxes of the inherited wealth of the idle rich.  Nobody in America who works for a living should have to live below the poverty line, Nobody should have to choose between pills and food and EVERY AMERICAN should have the right to a first-class EDUCATION.  LETS TURN THIS ANGER INTO ACTION PEOPLE!!!

13:32 -- The reign of terror begins today.
    13:32 --

I really hope all of the idots that voted for the stupid Republicans are happy. How much will they love the Dubya after he kills us all with his stupidity. When will these idots get the picture? Will all the little Jesus freaks have their God save them when this whole country collaspes? What will they do then?

    W=RECESSION

    13:33 --

I can't wait to make new friends !!

    signed Clarence Thomas.

    13:34 --

Anyone remember what Trudeau wrote in Doonesbury when Raygun was elected:
Mark: I'm going to shoot myself.
Zonker: Good idea! Guns should be cheap and plentiful.

    November 5, 2024 = June 30, 1934

13:35 -- We are lazy and stupid. 40% of registered voters voting? A monkey for President with the highest approval rating ever, whose belicose, imperialistic short sighted plans are bieng blessed by mid-term elections? Fuck us.
13:35 -- AL GORE is the only Democrat with the nuts to speak out about this BULLSHIT!!!!!
    13:35 --

McAuliffe is not alone.  James Carville pointed out that the chairman's main responsibilities are fundraising and administration - NOT policy. That is in many hands.  It's easy to blame one, when it's more complicated than that.  The voters are RESPONSIBLE for not being informed, being easily led, and not even VOTING.  The Democrats are RESPONSIBLE for being centrist & non-aggressive!  The Republicans are to blame because they manipulate.  There are many reasons.  Bickering among ourselves is what conservatives want!  Keeps us weak and unfocused!  People are frustrated, but taking it out on one man is missing the "lesson". Old ways aren't working...they include bang and blame politics!

    13:36 --

As all of you, I feel betrayed.  I think the DNC is good at getting out the union votes, but not so good at getting out the minority votes.  Consequently, many of the competitive races fell short, even in the South.  It doesn't help their cause that the main stream media in this country is regularly spoon-feeds the general public with rubbish. But then we have Bill Clinton to thank for that - afterall he sold the rights to our air waves.  Our water ways are next. I, too, believe that the Democratic party is now irrelevant.  I believe we have to look to the Green Party and organize thru them.

13:37 -- The Republicans outsmarted, outworked and outvoted the Democrats. It's our own fault. When you see a Republican candidate's sign on the corner, there should be a Democrat's sign just as big right next to it. When you call the local headquarters to get a yard sign, there should be some ready to be picked up or better yet, delivered to your door. When you call the local to volunteer, you had better get an adult to talk to who can understand what you're offering to do and takes you up on it immediately - no chance for second thoughts. Organize, organize, organize!
13:39 -- How in heaven's name can you expect to win elections when you don't stand for anything?  Like it or not, the R's did and they kicked butt.
13:41 -- I've been writing my representatives and the DNC for months regarding my opinion on the way the Democrats have been not leading this country.  First, Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on the floor of congress.  Then there was the fatal blow, when Democrats joined with the Republicans on the Senate floor giving Bush an effective blank check to wage war.  I no longer have a voice in my own elected officials.  We no longer have choices.  The Democrats can no longer take my vote for granted.  They will have to work for it.  Either earn it, or forfeit it.  We need a 3rd party, or better yet, even 4 parties.  I am disgusted to the core of my soul.  Gary Kaminski
13:41 -- YOU KNOW, IN SPITE OF LAST NIGHTS GLORIOUS VICTORY, IT'S STILL GONNA BE HIT ONE AND DRAG A DEMOCRAT, HIT ONE AND DRAG A DEMOCRAT! YOU WHINING LOSERS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WITH US AND ALWAYS WILL BE WITH US. IT'S A SHAME BECAUSE THIS WOULD BE A GREAT COUNTRY IF NOT FOR SCUM LIKE THE CLINTONS AND ALL THOSE DELUDED FOOLS WHO WORSHIP THEM. GROW UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU.
13:43 -- Here's the thing: Many of you now writing would be great candidates--intelligent, well-read on the issues, compassionate--so you, WE, have to get off our asses, make the sacrifice and DO SOMETHING about it. Run for office. GIVE US A CHOICE. There are far too many good people, great candidates, who don't want to get their hands dirty. Well, look what that's gotten us.
    13:43 --

AS A LIFELONG AND STAUNCH DEMOCRAT I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SAY THIS.

FUCK THE REPUBLICANS AND FUCK THE DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!

    13:45 --

Terry McAwful promised to get rid of Jeb as revenge for 2024...and instead Jeb gets re-elected and Kathering Harris win a seat in Congress.....and Bush and the Republicans control EVERYTHING. ARSENIC IN WATER! GLOBAL WARMING! DESTROYED ANWR! DEAD CARIBOU! GUNS EVERYWHERE! THOSE DAMN FETUSES WILL LIVE! OLD PEOPLE GET KICKED ONTO THE STREETS! BLACK CHURCHES WILL BURN! TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH! THEY WILL POISION THE WATER AND AIR AND HAVE THEIR OWN ECOSPHERE TO LIVE IN WHILE DEMOCRATS DIE! THE SKY IS FALLING!

13:45 -- Don't just fire Terry, fire the whole party!
    Join the Green Party!

13:45 -- It's clear that the Democrats have failed as a party, from the stupid Iraq vote to even the Clinton presidency. I see no use in supporting the Dems anymore, although I used to avidly. For those Democrats who are truly progressive, I have a reading list to help us transcend all this crap: Stupid White Men by Michael Moore Conscience of a Liberal by Paul Wellstone Crashing the Party by Ralph Nader Understanding Power by Noam Chomsky Declarations of Independence by Howard Zinn And go to the best political website in the world, www.zmag.org, to learn more. www.commondreams.org is also good.
    13:46 --

How come nobody is alluding to the fact the the Democratic voters FAILED to turn out!  I agree with blaming Terry, Dick, and Tom, but you people never showed up either!

    13:49 --

A pox upon the house of Bush and those idiots who voted with the Repukes!

America you can have your tractor pulls, world wrestling, gangsta rap, and general cultural idiocy.  You proven to this person that you are mindless, spineless, and devoid of common sense!  Say goodbye to abortion rights...say goodbye to corporate oversight...say goodbye to the economy (unless you're rich)...say goodbye to healthcare...say goodbye to the Cheney/energy investigation...and on-and-on...

Now, where were those citizenship transfer papers.  Time to get out of this $h!thole before the whole fascist state gets cranking.

    13:52 --

It is a sad day to be a Minnesotan. I will take my grief and anger and turn it into a positive force. I will take responsibility to do my part to effect change. I will stand up and keep fighting. Paul would have liked that.

I AM A LIFELONG DEMOCRAT (67 YEARS OLD), AND I'M SICK AS HELL OF LOSING TO THE DAMN REPUBLICANS.  THE CURRENT LEADERS OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY ARE A BUNCH OF SPINELESS WIMPS WHO SHOULD GET UP OFF THEIR KNEES AFTER LICKING DUBYA'S COWBOY BOOTS AND FALL ON THEIR SWORDS, OR FAILING THAT AT LEAST RESIGN IN SHAME.

WE NEED SOME LEADERSHIP WITH SOME REAL FIGHT AND ENOUGH COURAGE TO BATTLE BUSH'S TOADEATERS TOOTH AND NAIL.

TO HELL WITH BIPARTISANSHIP LET'S GO FOR THE SCORCHED EARTH POLICY.

13:58 -- Here's my recommendation: Why don't we replace the donkey with a lifeform more in keeping with the current democratic platform. I was thinking that the Sea Cucumber really reflects the invertebrate nature of the current bunch of Democratic congressjellies. Wankers all.
    13:58 --

Non-Citizens of the Empire - UNITE!!!  Break free of the shackles of the corporate tyrant!  The two-party state may be dead, but an action can't exist without an equal and opposite RE-ACTION.  So take ACTION!

    14:02 --

I have been a registered, voting Democrat for 24 years and I have just about had it.  I want to fire every Democratic leader from the National Party right down to my local county chairman.

And who put these Republicans into office?  DEMOCRATS!!!  None of these Senators and Congressmen could have been elected without the help of Democratic voters!  I am disgusted with the Republican-lites who call themselves Democrats.

14:02 -- just reporting here form texas where we elected a clean sweep of republicans for every office.  everyone you talk to feels the same:  you  have to have two different parties running against each other for an election.  instead we had one party with two candidates.  the democratic leadership sucks and its time we, the people, took our party back from those republicans  in liberal clothing. Mr. daschle, Mrs.clinton the time has come to step up to big money bush and his team of geriatric handlers.
    14:04 --

I am so mad I even started to cry!  I can't believe this is how our country has spoken.  I know it was only 40% voter turnout but those slack ass father fuckers who did not vote are just as bad as the piece of shit uncle fuckers who voted republican.  I feel like I have no voice. No one is representing me in our government.  I am so pissed at our country right now...I want to leave, but I don't know where to go.  This world sux!

EXCERPTS from DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe's Remarks on the 2024 Election Results

So where do we find ourselves now?

Basically the same place we were after the 2024 election. At 50-50. Parity. Not much has changed.

    14:05 --

For those interested in dialogue and plans for 2024, there are many places to go:

I AM FED UP WITH THE DNC -- IT HAS GIVEN IN TO THE PUBBIES!  I AM GOING GREEN!

    14:06 --

Conservatives are a party of  BULLIES in every area: politics, business, religion, world affairs.  Look at who their leaders are and what they do to get their way.  When the "little"  folk become afraid they biggest bully on the block.  That's what's happened here.  Even a big stand on the side of  rational debate could have helped the consciousness of fear that in this country.

When we become more afraid of our OWN bullies than the bullies overseas, then there'll be change.  That will mean losing some of our freedoms and our sons coming home in body bags.

The Conserves are "the dog that caught the car".  What will Rush have to bitch about?

14:07 -- No use crying over spilled milk especially since cats usually drink it and it is bad for them. All of us "New" Democrats need to band together and start a boycott of all the major Republican donors. When this illegitimate administration passes legislation that is rabid right wing fodder we should active and aggressively boycott their donors. Does anyone know of a website to coordinate this?
14:08 -- How about 8 years imitating Republicans?!! When Bill dumped Guinier that was enough for me. Better lose now fighting for big ideas which hold hopes than shut up and sink in the mire. McAuliffe, Lieberman (ugh!), Clinton, and all the money-grubbing DLC might be Republican moles who, with unions gutted, schools commercialized, & libraries broken, took on the historic challenge to destroy from within the last major institution that once listened to and fought for People -- the Democratic Party. Nice job! The ruthless corporate onslaught rules until we can build something real again. I've joined the Greens.
14:11 -- My only hope is that maybe - maybe the American people don't really believe in War, Imperialism and disregard for womens' rights. the environment, international law, etc... Maybe they have merely been brainwashed by 9-11 paranoia into supporting an agenda that makes me ashamed of my country....I am left despondent by not knowing a single prominent Democrat who has the courage to seriously attack Bush and his cronies for the evil they are doing....
14:12 -- Democrats? What Democrats? They all took a powder and knuckled under to the fear tactics. The Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans, now. Maybe everyone who cares should just scrap both parties and vote Green next time, but do it in a concerted effort. Gray Davis (California) is no choice for Governor, but he won again, over the apalling Republican, Simon. If the opposition got together and voted as a bloc, this travesty and others could not happen. Join together, America, or look forward to dictator G.W. Bush, for years.
    14:14 --

GREENS ARE PEOPLE TO LAZY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE - GET BACK IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, GET REAL DEMOCRATS WITH A BACKBONE AND AN AGENDA ELECTED, AND THEN VOTE FOR THEM. SIMPLE. GROW UP AND STOP THIS WINEY - "I'M MOVING TO CANADA, I'M JOINING THE GREEN PARTY" CRAP - ITS A COP OUT - THATS ALL IT IS. YOUR NO DIFFERENT THEN THE DASCHLES AND MCAULIFFES THAT COPPED OUT BY KISSING GEORGE W'S ASS. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS TIME. GROW THE F**K UP AND FIGHT NOT RUN AWAY LIKE A PANSY!!!!

    14:14 --

I'm glad I'm not the only one to see how STUPID the Democratic leadership has been since 9/11. The crash of the economy, the atomization of the surplus, the corporate scandals involving both Dubbya and Cheney, the violation of our Constitution, nothing has done it. Now that they are defeated by the most ridiculous "President" ever, the Democrats better start doing their job. Dubbya's war to steal Iraq's oil is going to upset people in the Middle-East. When they decide to strike the US, Dubbya will be able to hide once again in Nebraska, as he did on 9/11. The rest of us will have to face it.

14:14 -- A former congressman who switched his registration from Dem to Green once told me, "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me." If you think war for oil is wrong, if you think the corporate criminals should go to prison, the Democratic Party has left you. "Don't mourn, organize." Let the GOP go ahead and finish consuming the Dem Party, just as it did the Whigs when they lost their way. Join the fastest growing party in the US, the only political party organized in eighty nations on six continents. http://greens.org
14:17 -- IF WE STAY WITH THE TWO PARTY SYSTEM, WE’RE IN DEEP POOP. WHEN WILL WE LEARN THAT THE SYSTEM HAS TO BE ON OUR SIDE, WE CAN’T KEEP FIGHTING IT? WORK FOR INSTANT RUNOFF VOTING AND PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION. THEN EVERYONE HAS A REASON TO VOTE…. THE DEMOCRATS ARE SO ENTRENCHED IN “POLITICS” AS USUAL, THAT THEY’D SOONER GO DOWN WITH THE SHIP THAN MAKE WAVES!!!!!!!!!!
14:18 -- Yo, when does that flight leave for France....I'm in the seat next to you!!!
14:19 -- the democracts should swing towards the green platform to ensure their survival. They are passe! i stopped voting demo when bill clinton ran for his second term. I had it with a corporate kiss ass like clinton and I have had it with all demos that brown nose to the corporate money. we need a different demo party or we need to overthrow the current government. the constitution says this should happen when the government becomes unresponsive to the people. It has!!!!!

    Tom Daschle

14:20 -- DEMS - GET SOME GUTS OR GET LOST! I'M GOING GREEN IF YOU DON'T START ATTACKING BUSH AND I MEAN START NOW!
14:20 -- From now on, I will try to build a progressive base on the local level where there is some hope of being heard. I give up on the Dems and will only work for progressive candidates with courage, a platform and some vision. Then we can build a base from which to draw candidates for state offices and then national offices. Meanwhile, to all the spineless Dems who supported the Iraq resolution, don't come to me for money or support in your presidential or senatorial campaign. I will remember your vote. Especially yours, Hillary and yours, John Kerry. Cate, Massachusetts
14:20 -- Call, write, email all of our Democrat representatives and tell them we want our liberal views reresented in Washington. The republicans are not afraid to stand up for their extremist views and neither should we!!!
14:21 -- McAuliffe should spend more time making cases for why Democrats are better than just saying Republicans are evil.  Daschle should spend more time working on compromise bills and letting moderate judges get voted on than just trying to make Bush look worse for the 2024 election.  Most of the close Senate races were lost because people thought that the Senate wasn't doing its job, and that blame lies squarely on Daschle's shoulders.  He was more interested in making Bush look bad than making the Democrats look good.  The Clintons, remember that they inspire just as many Republicans to vote against Democratic candidates as they inspire Democrats to vote for them.
14:30 -- The Radical left is right, we have become Republicrats!!! I wonder when they will burn the Bill of Rights on the steps of Congress. It has already been done (figuratively) at the Supreme Court.
    14:23 --

BUSH HAPPENS, NOW WE DIE !!!  ANY QUESTIONS ?

    14:27 --

    let us not forget...

Gore  won the united states by

    540,520

    votes

    (memorize that number)

this country is vastly more democratic than republican.

they vote in high percentages. we stay at home.

get everyone you can to register for 2024. today, tomorrow, next week, next year.

14:30 -- The first day of the 'revenge' campaign is today! Get busy, get active, get loud! Let's take over the appeasing Democratic party with people who aren't afraid of their shadows. Precinct caucuses are in January & February, even in a non-election year.
14:30 -- Finally! Maybe now we can get some corporate tax relief! Sure, trickle-down economics tends to financially crush the average American, but maybe that'll get 'em back in church - A new, federally-funded Christian church. This new wave of conservatism also means that Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia are a bit closer to their ultimate dream: The dismantling of civil rights, the Brady Law and the silly, liberal notion of women making their own reproductive decisions, I mean, these are women. Ha ha ha.
14:30 -- 2024 was Kafka-esque, 2024 was Orwellian, are you ready for the dawning of the Ashcroftian era? Me either, but it is upon us.
14:30 -- There's a story about a frog in a pan of water. The water is slowly heated and he gets used to the slow increases in heat, never noticing how hot it's getting. Finally, he's boiled to death. In terms of the Dems' corrupt leadership and Bush's rule, I think the water is starting to boil in US politics. Canada and Europe are looking better all the time. Maybe we should just get out, like the Jews in early days of Nazi Germany. -- From North Carolina to England
    14:33 --

When are the Democrats going to frame the issues so that people understand what's at stake? The environment is an economic issue--frame it that way. The war on Iraq is a waste of resources needed to fight terrorism. Renewable energy means that we can tell Saudi Arabia to take a hike. Privatizing social security means putting our money into higher salaries for CEOs and brokers and bankers. The government doesn't charge us management fees for social security. Medicare reforms mean a choice between helping parents pay hospital bills and children going to college. Damn it--frame the issues.

    14:34 --

My daughter's second grade teacher said, "It's easy for the conservatives to win because they always agree on the same things.  But the left is always arguing within about what they want."  My daughter is now 34 years old, and it's time for us to get back to our liberal* roots and move together with a focused and coherent messageA president must be a leader of all the people, not just the greedy, the fanatical, and the terrified.   *This is not a profanity.

    14:34 --

SUCKS to be me, SUCKS to be you

The empire of Evil, will hide what is true

The Republicans pervert what was once so pure

Democracy is Dead and that is for sure.

    14:35 --

Why should anyone vote for the Democratic Party when all it wants to do is be the political party of choice for the rich and powerful.  There is already a party in place which serves that constituency well, thank you.  It is called the Republican Party.  Our  party has no future being merely the SECOND favorite political party of the rich and powerful.  It's time for the Democratic Party to come home to the rest of us not-so-rich but nice people.  If the Democratic Party refuses to do that, another party will have to be created to displace it. Parties can be dismantled.  Remember what happened to the Whigs!

14:37 -- Theyre going to round us all up and put us in camps! How can we resist? THEY have all the guns!
14:39 -- WE DO NOT EXSIST IN A TWO PARTY SYSTEM.

WELL, WELL I WONDER WHERE ALL THE DEMOCRATIC VOTERS HAVE GONE???  GOT SICK OF HAVING THEIR VOTES NOT COUNT--EVERYONE!!

    14:43 --

And now Dem. Rep. Martin Frost's spokesman is declaring "THE NATION MOVED TO THE RIGHT LAST NIGHT, WE WILL NOT WIN BY MOVING TO THE LEFT"! This is INFURIATING -- and so, so stupid!! How could the Dems POSSIBLY move further to the right?? The nation did NOT move to the right last night; the Dems simply failed to ignite the electorate, because they've already made themselves indistinguishable from the ReTHUGlicans! God save us all from the Blue Dogs, the Moderates, and the Bush appeasers!!
    14:45 --

I am so pissed off right now it is not funny.  I just heard on the news that Bush The Selected told his staff, "no gloating"   MOOSE MANURE!!!!    From judges to the environment, we are going to be screwed royally.   Drilling in Alaska, abortion out-lawed, prayer in public schools, etc.  We are in for a nightmare.    What  is wrong with the Democratic party?   The economy is in the toilet, we are at war and they act like scared chickens around Bush!   The schmuck stole the election.  Are the American people that stupid to not know what is going on??

    David  E. Ray

14:48 -- I used to think Bush was the only ignorant power broker in Washington.  Boy, was I wrong.  Unreal.  Thanks.
    14:49 --

Folks, this day was bound to happen.  You can dance with the devil for just so long before you lose your  soul.  Democratic leaders have felt that if they were a little less republican than the republicans, the electorate would be grateful, and bestow victories.  Forget values.  Forget principles.  Forget courage. We can fudge those, because after all, we're democrats.   Well, the dance is over, and we're wallflowers.

Redemption will be painful.  We may suffer more losses in 2024 before the electorate believes that democrats are willing to fight for issues that affect ordinary people.  The sooner that we get started, the better.

14:49 -- I do not know what happened to the Democrats.  The economy is shot to hell and not one democrat raised the issue.  How about Bush's plan to get rid of affirmative action.  Getting rid of affirmative action affects everyone, including women.  Which means that the class cieling will not go away soon.  When a boxer is ready to fight, he is always aware that they should not fight under the other boxer's fighting plan but fight under their own fighting plan.  Well the Democrats fought under the Republican's plan and they LOST big time.
14:52 -- To all those stick with the Democrats and fight people out there, I ask, "How can you fight for a party that obviously has no interest (anymore) in fighting for you?"  There's a big difference between the Democrats and the Greens, the Greens have a values based platform where as the Democrats have a greed based platform.
14:52 -- what the fuck the first time i am allowed to vote and Bush steals the office. Now i get another chance and they fucking do it all over again.  Democrats suck serious ass.  First of it doesn't matter anymore they fucking do everything the republicans say.  We have one party now and have for a long time.  Fucking politicians are to busy cashing checks and living on government welfare to give two fucks about anything but them and their rich buddies.  bunch rich white mother fuckers im sick of this shit.
14:53 -- Let’s not give up on Al Gore. He was one of the precious few who publicly questioned the war against Iraq (which, let’s not kid ourselves, is already on). He WON in 2024. HE’LL WIN AGAIN IN 2024. The 2024 election fiasco has steeled him. No more minders, no more focus groups. Gore’s going to let it rip. Furthermore, he hasn’t compromised himself through enabling this Administration’s crazed agenda (like Daschle, Gephardt, Kerry, etc.) Wouldn’t it be great to have someone smart and principled in office again?
    14:53 --

Sig Heil! With a fascist Attorney General's office shredding the Constitution, Bush will soon be dictator. Will America wake up when the unemployment jumps, body bags start come home from Iraq, & terrorists step up attacks here. Will they will realize it is stupid to let the oil industry run the country? Why can’t we have honest politicians that aren’t owned by business. Democan or Republicrat they’re all corrupt and don’t care about the American people who don’t pay bribes.

14:59 -- Someone here said it, "Paul Wellstone was assassinated!" Don't you think it's odd that 2 key Democrats were killed in mysterious plane crashes--Carnahan last election and Wellstone this time. Not only are Republipuppies buying elections, they are rigging them with murder. This is what were up against--the end of the American Bill of Rights and the rest of the Constitution. I'm scared! Andy in New York---home of the lying, cheating, stealing Governor.
15:00 -- Get the F*CK rid of that pantywaist Gephardt, while we're at it. What a WUSSY!!! We need some new blood....We need some BLOOD!!!!
    15:00 --

SHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? ARE WE GOING TO JUST ROLL OVER AND LET THE FUCKING REPUBLICANS BE SMUG AND SHIT ON US!!???? I SUGGEST THAT THE DEMOCRATIC "LEADERSHIP" GET WITH THE FUCKING PROGRAM AND STAND UP TO BUSH NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE AND THERE IS NO DEMOCRATIC PARTY LEFT!!!!!! DAMMIT!!! THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN EASY!!!! WE NEED TO STOP PLAYING THE SAME SHIT, TWO DIFFERENT PILES GAME!!!!! NO WONDER NO ONE VOTES FOR US!!!!! NOW I HAVE THAT RACIST FUCK CORNYN AS A SENATOR--PHIL GRAMM FUCKING JR!!

    ANDREA

    AUSTIN, TX

15:01 -- I dont' know does anyone else think ,aybe these elections were also rigged. I feel so hopeless, it is really having an effect on my life. I must say that at least all of this if we survive it "may" arouse the electorate. Anyway these are very dark times and I feel the whole race of mankind is in peril. Why can't we have a government for the people and for overall common sense good ????
15:03 -- Rick Kahn sucks. Much of the blame goes to that Chomsky-reading, Nader-loving, out of touch dreamer with his outrageous "eulogy" in Minnesota that stirred anti-Dem sentiment among swing voters across the country. I'm no DLCer, I think the DLC is just as bad as Kahn. But bad taste is bad taste. Kahn is a loser. And he made all of us losers now.
15:04 -- I'm sick of gutless, cowardly passivity on behalf of my party leaders. Bush is an illegitimate, undeserving, dangerous, puppet president and the Dem leaders are embarrassing and frightening in their acceptance and support of him and his egotistical philosophies.
    15:06 --

Ever wonder what it was like to live in Germany in 1936?
All you have to do now is look around Amerika.

The only difference this time will be the Arabs in the "showers", rather than the Jews.

When it is all said and done...
Do you think the Chinese will be as nice to us, as we were to the Germans?

15:06 -- Go on, everyone.  Change your registration to Green tomorrow!  If Daschle/McCauliffe see an exodus maybe they will realize there are people out there who want to vote LIBERAL and be proud of it.  Alternatively, New Zealand is warmer than Canada, and they speak English too.
    15:07 --

Doesn't it seem like we've all had a very bad dream, a nightmare vision where some demon with squinty eyes, pointy ears, and a devilish smirk is hysterical with glee?  We shake our heads, how can this be?  What do we do?  Take it to the streets, where riot-geared police await, anxious to do what they've always wanted to do, the rich gathering at ringside, salivating in their bloodlust at the roman spectacle to come?  Politics has become a lost cause, as  America has gone facist, a white rose to mark its passing.  RIP, rest in pejoratives, democratic party, you've earned them all!

    15:09 -- Ahem....

    NEENER NEENER NEENER!

Yes, you're right Terry McAuliffe is an idiot. At least he has enough sense, however, to realize that there is a middle in this country. Zack, on the other hand is so out of touch that he thinks the Dems lost because they weren't left enough? Leahy and Daschle had more to do with losing the senate than McAuliffe, and not because they were Bush's bootlickers, that's for sure.

Of course, this comment probably "just doesn't belong." Cry me a river.

    15:10 --

Thanks a lot Terry! How could you do this to us? Now we will have to live in Ashcroft's America. Well, by the integrity of William Jefferson Clinton, I'm not going to take it anymore. I'm moving to Amsterdam! I'll come back when the Dems get a spine, take control, and LEGALIZE IT!!!!!

15:11 -- The Dark Ages begin....
15:11 -- The Republicans' views on many issues may be reprehensible, but at least voters know where the GOP stands. Democrats, by contrast, are all over the map. I wonder how many of them alienated their traditional bases by toadying up to Bush on Iraq and other issues. There's a leadership vacuum at the top of the Democratic Party, and I don't think any of the usual suspects -- Gephardt, Daschle, etc. -- have the courage or charisma to re-energize left-leaning voters. We need some new blood!
15:14 -- thank you ralph nader! they couldn't have done it without you.
    15:15 --

With a Republican Majority in the Senate, the CIA can grow back its "teeth" after 20 years of "dental work" by Democrats.  As for social security and scaring the elderly, never forget that it was BILL CLINTON who RAISED your social security taxes in 1993.  I was telling people at the polls yesterday, "If you feel that you're undertaxed vote Democrat.  If you feel that you already pay enough taxes, then vote Republican".  By the way, no need to worry about WWIII anytime soon.  Bush is smarter than he looks (and sometimes talks).

15:15 -- I have busted my ass as a volunteer for the Democratic Party in Florida the past three election cycles, and yesterday around midnight I finally realized that what I (and countless other volunteers) have done was an exercise in futility, because the Democrats run inept campaigns.  My days of Democratic activism are over, at least until they can prove they can mount an effective campaign, and judging from yesterday's results, it won't be for a while, if ever.  Maybe it's time to officially go GREEN.
15:16 -- "democrocy can only survive on the blood of innocent men" Jefferson. The hippies proved thirty years ago that peace fails when dealing with the wicked. Revolution is the only measure to be taken. It is one thing to die for what you believe but, would you kill? We are the spear head of evil. We are not all evil. We have the greatest opportunity to make that change.        REVOLUTION NOW
    15:16 --

SO - NOW CAN WE ALL BE REAL DEMOCRATS AGAIN INSTEAD OF LITTLE REPUGNICAN CLONES?  CAN WE, HUH?

    15:17 --

I HOPE WIMPS DASCHLE AND GEBHARDT ARE HAPPY.  THEY HAVE PRETTY MUCH DESTROYED OUR REPUBLIC BY KISSING BUSH'S ASS.  I HOPE THEY BOTH GET BOUNCED IN THE NEXT ELECTION.  WE NEED DEMOCRATS WHO ARE DEMOCRATS,  NOTMORE ASS KISSERS.  FOR SHAME.  GOD HELP US NOW.  WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A BUSH DYNASTY.  FIRST DUBYA AND THEN JEB. ARRRRRRG.

    15:19 --

    Pelosi for House Minority Leader

    Dodd For Senate Minority Leader

     Lets spill some blood

15:20 -- Why would anyone vote for an erzatz Republican when they could vote for a real Republican? I don't see the logic, and obviously it's not working. So get a spine, Dems! Pass IRV, make allies of the Greens, they're not the enemy, the Right wing is! Fight THEM!
15:20 -- During WWII, the French (particularly the French politicians ) who collaborated with the Nazis were referred to as the "Vichy" French. I would suggest to you that we begin to call democrats like Gephart and Lieberman "Vichy Democrats". Lest anyone accuse me of going over the top with this label, allow me to leave you with the dictionary definition of fascism: "A philosophy or system of government that advocates or exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with an ideology of belligerent nationalism".
    15:22 --

ACTION NEEDED: I was very depressed as I learned that people actually fell for all the President's campaign visits and voted for the Republican answers to the diplomatic, economic and social issues of our day.  This election has convinced me that we/I need to be researching and volunteering for political leaders of better quality, if we/I can find them.  Also convincing our citizens to get more educated about history (World and American), science, logic and philosophy so that we have more people with independent and objective thinking. I can't believe we are such a nation of consumer couch potatoes. I hope this election shocks a lot of us into constructive action.

15:26 -- If we've got to have clones, clone Gore Vidal!
15:26 -- You, the Democratic Leadership blew it! Now we've got two years to fix it......get busy!
    15:27 --

Let's not get angry - let's get even by forming a block of voters who'll let the dems know that if they don't stop wishin n washin that all of us are going to either start our own party or defect to the greens.

I'm glad I didn't waste my time staying up late 'cause somehow I just knew that the demo wussy cat leadership proved to be anything but leaders of their party, let alone the country.

    15:28 --

OKAY  VENT AWAY! BUT TOMORROW THE PITY PARTY IS OVER!!!

LET'S ALSO ORGANIZE, MOBILIZE, AND FIGHT TO TAKE BACK THE COUNTRY!

REMEMBER: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.... let's get to work!  Have petition drives to block legislation.. find Republicans and Independents and Libertarians and Greens who will join us to this evil cartel that has taken over our country!

signed by Louise ... from the Blue side of Texas (the side that voted Democratic!)

15:29 -- Well, it's not as if the Dems were an opposition party anyway...
15:31 -- Don't just get angry. Organize! Don't wait for the Democrats to defend democracy. They're impotent to do so. http://www.democracycircles.org
    15:36 --

AMERIKKKA, "RESIDENT" DUBYA, THE GOP PARTY,
AND MARYLAND GOV.-ELECT BOB EHRLICH SUCK!

ANYBODY OFFER DIRT-CHEAP FLIGHTS OUTTA THIS
    OBVIOUSLY GODFORSAKEN COUNTRY?

    NETHERLANDS OR BUST!

    today, get angry...

    tomorrow, get informed...

    and get busy

15:37 -- It's quite fitting that it was overcast all day today, in light of the fact that the Republicans have taken control of both houses of congress. Ya know, I can almost half-deal with the Bush agenda being pushed through Congress, however myopic or evil his policies may be. Most of those policies can be relatively easily negated once they prove to be failures. My real problem is with the fact that all of his judicial nominees will go through with little congressional opposition. Are there any good jobs in Canada?
15:38 -- My Dear Democratic Party, Upon this tragedy, I hope you decided to return to your Democratic roots. Give up your addictions to big business, centrist politics and shady ethics. Don't try to be everything to everyone. Be who you are. We love you and are waiting for your return.
    15:39 --

I never thought I'd say this, but ...

    NADER WAS RIGHT

I'm still a Democrat, I will never vote Green, and I'm still pissed at Ralphie for his not-inconsiderable role in putting Dubya in the Oval Office.  But he was right about Democrats needing to act like Democrats again.  And until we get rid of spineless wusses like McAuliffe and Gephardt, maybe we don't deserve to win.

15:41 -- Why aren't the Democrats opposing Bush's foreign policies: endless war without clearly defined goals. For example: A possible unprovoked preemptive strike against Iraq, whether or not evidence of an imminent Iraqi threat exists. Bush's walking away from international treaties. Bush's budget and economic policies, lack of fiscal responsibility, ties to big business, undoing Roosevelt's New Deal and undermining the transparency of the marketplace. Bush's destructive environmental policies, his tax cut for America's wealthiest, undoing the US Constitution, etc. Bush may win in 2024 unless Democrats oppose him!
15:42 -- My Senator's office announced that constituent calls and emails were running 10-1 AGAINST Bush's Iraq resolution. Then what happens?  She votes for the resolution.  That has nothing to do with the Green Party, or voting machines, or the Republican controlled media.  It was a direct subversion of the will of the people by an ALREADY ELECTED DEMOCRATIC SENATOR NOT RUNNING FOR REELECTON IN 2024.  How is the new mantra "organize" going to solve that problem?  This Democrat is ALREADY in office and basically ignored 9 out of 10 people in her district.  And I'm supposed to vote for her next time because the Republicans ignore me?
    15:42 --

Hey, I voted for Mondale in 1984! I didn't know he was still alive!

The votes of yesterday are insinuating that we are irrelevant! No direction, no leadership. I'm embarassed to see Daschle waffling around in front of the camera, blathering on about "we have to have serious discussions about the issues that important to the American people." what the?

It's about inactivity stupid! Carville should be screaming: Do Something!

    15:43 -- Damn.
15:45 -- Daschle and Gephardt have got to go TODAY. I will give money to and vote for any Democrat that LOUDLY CLEARLY and unreservedly criticizes the many glaring failures of the Repthuglican junta. and I herebey vow not to give one penny nor one vote to any Democrat that doesn't. No more 'bipartisan accomodation'!
15:45 -- God Bless George W Bush!!! McAwful/Tommy Dasshole/Bubba Clintoon/Hildebeast can all rot in HELL!!!
15:46 -- For Texas governer we had a choice between a Democrat turned Republican and a Democrat that looks like a Republican. I think it's time to visit the green party, but I can't bring myself to do that. My great grandfather summed it up when he said he'd "vote for the donkey if it was the only one running."
    15:47 --

i turned 18 in september, registered to vote (as a dem) for this? fuck it.

15:47 -- ALL THIS TALK ABOUT ABONDONING THE DEMS AND GOING GREEN PISSES ME OFF.  THIS PARTY WILL NEVER REFLECT OUR VIEWS IF WE DON'T FORCE IT TOO.  WAKE THE HELL UP, ORGANIZE, MOBILIZE AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.  THOSE WHO CHANGED TO GREEN BEFORE GW WAS ELECTED, PROBABLY COULD HAVE SAVED US FROM ALL THIS SHIT IF THEY VOTED FOR GORE.  DIRECT YOUR ANGER WHERE IT BELONGS!!!
15:49 -- We don't even know our adversaries. But when you examine the races that were surprisingly lost, you will find the ungodly holy alliance between the Christian-evangelical right and the American Israeli/Jewish lobby. No way Jeb should have won by that margin but for a massive cross-over vote by FL Jewish voters. Same for Morella. We had better wake up!
    15:49 --

Here in California we won the Governor's race and all the state wide offices and maintained control of both houses of the state legislature.  We're a united state party and have more grassroots organization than another other Democratic party at the state level.  Grassroots organization was the problem in this election in such states as Missouri and Georgia.  If we can get that organized in the national level then we'll take out this one party state by 2024.

15:51 -- I feel that the Democratic Leadership doesn't have any b*lls! I'm a Democrat because I believe that all people are equal, not just those with money. As long as the Democratic leadership keeps being yes men to the Bush administration, you're going to be losers. I was appalled at the number of Democrats that went along with the tax cut and the Iraq issue. Unless you start listening to your people, you're going to be losers! STAND UP FOR US AND GIVE US BACK OUR VOICE! Cynthia Putt putt@oregoncoast.com

    Joe Conason's Journal 11.06.02
    No excuses

    http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=14035

    READ IT!

15:56 -- Since the impeachment of Clinton the media have become another arm of the pig party. Special graphics, 24/7 coverage of blue Gap dresses, body language experts were consistantly used to paint Clinton as Satan. Yet, the 1st Idiot gets a free pass on EVERYTHING! I watch cable news astonished and floored by the biased coverage. From the vapid radio shows to Imus, it never stops. P.S. Props to the Democratic Sanchez sisters who are the the first sister act in the House. Theresa in ELA
    15:57 --

With very few exceptions (Kucinich, Wellstone, McDermott, Byrd...), the Democrats helped usher in the era of war as campaign strategy. By appeasing the Republicans, Democrats in 2024 helped validate that strategy for once and for all. So I predict: Rumors of war every midterm-election year, and actual wars every presidential-election year. Pity the U.S. troops being used for this vile purpose, and pity the poor nations that get bombarded for it, like Iraq this January, and--most likely--Saudi Arabia in 2024.

15:58 -- This is what they get for kissing Bush's...whatever!
15:58 -- It starts with campaign finance--just about everybody gets thoroughly co-opted. Then, the campaign wizards with their polling and focus groups--basically, the same folks that bring you the networks' fall schedule. Then, you have spineless, agenda-less "leadership." For the Republicans, this was about something: getting and securing George W.'s mandate. For the Dems, it was the Seinfeld election: about nothing. As Sean Wilentz observes: "Begin by facing up to the hard truth that you can't beat something with nothing." And then a harder one for us: watch "Journeys with George" on HBO. The guy IS a likeable charmer, and they have something we don't: an attractive figure at the top.
    15:59 --

I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!

OUT WITH DASCHLE, KERRY, BIDEN ... IN WITH TRUE DEMOCRATS.

16:00 -- KICK DASCHLE and ESPECIALLY that wimp Gephardt to the curb! If they move any more to the right, they'll be sharing Bush's lap. If the Democrat leadership has aspirations of running for president (like we'd vote for them) they should resign their positions and leave them to people who actually want to be leaders. If this means the Democrats are going to be forced to have a spine, then I guess yesterday will eventually be the Repuklican's worst nightmare. And hint to Democratic leaders, the following are not dirty words: liberal, justice, class warfare, NO.
    16:01 --

I can not believe what I'm reading here! In the face of a true crisis you are all ready to give up!!! Some of you have said that you have registered with other parties, some of you have said that you will leave the country. Could it be that this is the very reason why the democrats lost! Yes, it proves to me that we may talk tough but when it is essential that we fight, we step back and cower. Well dammit those times are over!!

    (Part 1)

Proud Liberal from the State of California

    16:02 --

Venting is healthy, but let's not give up . .. !     I just hope it doesn't lead to WW3 and that our planet can take the increase in pollution/disappearing species/depleted fisheries/etc.

16:03 -- No more GREEDERSHIP! We need leadership and a vision based on the values the best of the American People have traditionally held dear. Five to one baby, one to five. Let the pigs choke on their Pork...what if they gave a Gubmint and no one came or paid taxes?
    16:04 --

Lets face it, if you have a republican running against a republican, you might as well vote for the republican!

    A Waverly Democrat

16:05 -- Makes me feel pretty prescient to have gone Green seven years ago. I'm sorry for the die-hard D's that I was(am) right. You all can start fighting for change today, by registering Green. Or you can fight with the DLC for your party back. Which will it be? But trust me on this one, they're too busy trying to find and exploit loopholes in McCain-Feingold to be too concerned with the base. They won't change until you threaten them with extinction, SO DO IT! Third parties make progress, Duopoly's horde power. Nothing more, nothing less. It's all in our history. Check it out.
    16:05 --

We will rebuild and remake the face of this democratic party, we will as Wellstone said, "organize, organize, organize", and we will make this the great country that we all dreamed of - take this country back for all our sakes, for our children's sake. Wear the label of Liberal proudly, commit yourself to democratic causes and invest time in your local democratic campaigns. Call your congress/state senators/DNC office and tell them why you are angry they need to know!

We have 2 years people to save this country...it's up to us - this is the fight of our lives!!!!

    Proud Liberal -California

16:06 -- The Democrats are a poor copy of the Republicans. Why would anyone vote for them when they can get the original?
    16:10 --

    Nancy  Pelosi

for  Democratic Leader in the House.

    16:10 --

Damm it ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're smarter then they are! The problem is we need to come up with answers when asked for solutions and get the message out.

16:11 -- How are we going to pay for health care reform?

    With a tax cut!

How are we going to pay for this war?

    With another tax cut!

How are we going to pay for a national missile defense system (to make our country hate-proof after we've made everyone hate us)?

    With yet another tax cut!

Land of the formerly free and home of the stupid chickenshits!

16:16 -- If 20% of the voters voted Democratic, why do Greens think they have a chance at winning anything? What evidence are their beliefs based on, other than wishful thnking ? They've never won any major race.I blame my generation (60's people) and younger & their idiot 'they're all the same' logic. No they arent, we wouldnt be going to War with Iraq with Demos in charge, we wouldnt pack the court with ludicrous imbeciles. Of course the current Dem leaders are idiots but they aint quite as bad as Bush.
    16:22 --

I am so afraid for the future of this country, and for this world.  We are going to have to work soooo hard to make sure that Roe V. Wade stays and I am sure as hell up to the challenge.  Im not giving in, Im only going to work that much harder to ensure that women have the freedoms they deserve

I will not allow the womens movement to be set back.  I hope you all are with me.

-Pissed off and fed up UConn student

    16:22 --

    Do we
keep trying to make the Democratic Party work?  Even when it doesn't work in
our interests?  Even when it acts, nationally and locally, like some sort of
incompetent country club of Republican Salts?  There is no reason that the
last Democratic choice for President (Gore) should have lost, except for
    major party incompetence?

The day after election day, I'm worried (& tired)!
I have a 16 year old son.  I, also, now have a President & congress that
will most likely have him fighting in Iraq or some where else so that gw
bush can get another term to silence and destroy working people and their
    unions.

    16:25 --

Great! Now our Religious Fanatic can make global thermo-nuclear war on the other Religious

Fanatics, because there isn't anybody to stop him. ARRRRGGGGGG!

16:27 -- I felt gutted when Senator Wellstone, his family, and supporters died. I was OUTRAGED when republicans had the gall to tell the Wellstones and their supporters how to mourn our senator's death. And was humiliated when we apologized. If we can't even grieve w/o apologies to the repugs and our dumbass wrestling baby-crying governer, how will we ever stand up and fight against corporate corruption and big guns?
    16:28 --

I just can’t understand how we lost?  We tried to use the unions to shut down shipping over the Christmas holiday, which would have crashed the economy.  We broke election laws by stealing the New Jersey senate seat, which disenfranchised the entire country.  And finally, we sold our souls to the devil when we tried to capitalize on Senator Wellston’s death by throwing a political rally. I thought Bill Clinton showing up at the rally, (I mean memorial service), should have put us back in the senate and reclaimed the house. I don’t get it?

    16:29 --

In two years, when the economy STILL sucks, when who knows what the hell happens with Iraq, you know what we're still going to hear?

"It's all Bill Clinton's Fault" - STILL.   JUST YOU WAIT.  Next elections, they'll blame "The Democrat's Legacy" and how "We started in such a deep hole we need more time to get out of it..."

I'm just so sick of hearing about how Taxes, the Economy, Corporate Corruption, Terrorism, is all "Bill Clinton's Fault" and because the "Democrats" didn't do anything about it / caused it / whatever Rush says.   ARRGGH!

    16:29 --

Moving progressively away from the Democrats
is not a move to the left, it is a move to the center.

    But who to vote for?

Who is offering a comprehensive overall vision of hopeful futurity?

    Nobody is.

But someone needs to, and it needs to be based on the human agency recognized by universal global human rights, and all that it entails.  We must move away from any sort of nationalism.  Go and read the Universal Declaration for Human Rights.

    16:32 --

WE HAVE NO LEADERSHIP.  WE HAVE MEALY MOUTHED WUSS DASCHLE, POCKETS- FULL-OF-"DONATIONS" LIEBERMAN, BOOTLICKING GEPHARDT.  AND WE DESERVED THEM BECAUSE  WE HAVE NO RESPONSE TO THE REPUBLICAN ATTACK MACHINE RED ALERT AT ALL TIMES, READY TO TOTALLY DESTROY ANYTHING THAT SUGGESTS CRITICISM. THEY OWN THE MEDIA - DO WE COMPLAIN?  NO, NOT A BIT.    DO WE BLAME THE REPUBLICANS FOR ENRON AND CLONES WHO HAVE STOLEN BILLIONS FROM AMERICAN AND CANADIAN WORKERS, WHO HAVE BANKRUPTED BUSINESSES, WHO HAVE TAKEN BILLIONS OF TAX DOLLARS AND RETURNED HANDED IT TO THE ONE PERCENT RICHEST PEOPLE IN AMERICA?  DO WE CARE THAT 17 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION LIVES BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL?  WHY SHOULD ANYBODY VOTE DEMOCRAT?

16:32 -- When I watched Terry McAwful try to spin this as a Democratic gain (hey, we ppicked up the Kansas governor seat...) I almost puked. Isn't this the guy who helped engineer the ideological right turn that made the Democrats into the "me too" party. Here's the recipe for success: 1. Dump Terry. 2. Ignore all polls. 3. Stand for something! Oppose the war. Oppose the tax cuts. Anything. Stop being Republiclones!
    16:35 --

You... You... Argh. There's no talking to you. you screwed the pooch. Fall on your metaphorical sword, Terry, and make room for a fighter.

    FK

16:36 -- If I would have voted green or independant, we would have a rep. gov. i didn't, we don't (AZ of all places). keep your voices up, keep telling our dem leaders no more rubber stamps for shruB. It does pretty much suck to have anyone there with a rubber stamp congress.
16:36 -- I knew this would happen! Our leaders went along to get along! The media will cover them IF they get a spine and speak out! If they are AFRAID..then call on some of your troops(us), I sure as hell would love to have a forum to point out the HYPOCRISY of the nazis in charge! SPEAK OUT for God sake, in your silence you are letting them destroy freedom!
    16:38 --

I have concluded that the DLC is really a subversive subset of the Republican Party and we've been had.  I would really love to see an investigation behind who really is funding them.  They are not Liberals and they do not stand for Democratic Party values.  They have got to go, as well as all of the other Democrat cowards who are too afraid to speak out against the Bush fascist regime with the FACTS.  This is nuts.

16:42 -- I feel like we are back in the days of Ronald RaygunSomehow we managed to survive his 8 horrible years in office.  Texas was just a complete disaster for Democrats.  Now we must do something...and yes, let the games begin...and begin they will!
16:44 -- When I voted yesterday I had two major choices: governor and congressman. I proudly voted for Mike Morrill, a green candidate, for governor and then held my nose and voted for a democrat as the lesser of two evils for congress. The dems ran the same boring old hack that lost last time against this same right wing jerk. Guess what? he lost again.
    16:48 --

I am embarrassed to be a Democrat.  Our leadership failed us because they bought into the fear proscribed by the administration.  They refused to present real principled solutions.  Real solutions based on humanity - the kind the democratic party and America is based on.

Smile knowing that optimism and hope will win the day.  But, don't complain.  Take action.  We are right.  They (our leaders, unfortunately and the republican party) are wrong.  Fight for your principles and fight for a better day.  But complaining and not taking action is exactly what McAuliffe, Gephardt and Daschle did with our economic situation.

Rise to a better day.  Please don't sit.

    16:48 --

The 60% who didn’t bother to vote because they’ve given up on the system must create a populist party and out-vote the 40% who enabled this last screwing of America to occur.  No current politician need apply.  Since Paul Wellstone died none of the people in Washington are fit to be a 60%er.

    WE REALLY DO OUTNUMBER THEM!!!!

    16:51 --

Let's (Democratic Greens and Green Democrats) rally (intense grass roots) around Kucinich when he reintroduces the House Resolution for a Department of Peace and go from there...

16:53 -- The heartbeat of the Democratic party stopped when Paul Wellstone's heartbeat stopped. And the Republicans knew that would happen. I am sad and discouraged at how powerful self-interest and greed have become. Who can stop them? WE CAN! WE MUST! All Progressives and Liberals: to the streets!!!!!!!!
    16:54 --

Republicans killed us, and I don't blame them.  We looked like little pansies on Election Day and on the campaign trial.  Now the GOP has 2 years to do whatever the hell they want, and there's not a damn person now to blame but themselves.  I think 2024 w/some new leadership will bring everything back.  Daschle, Gephardt, McAuliffe......leave and never come back, and put a few guys with balls in there.

    Daniel - Cumberland, MD

    16:57 --

I  predict that Dubya will back off from plans to invade Iraq, allowing UN inspectors to do their thing until early 2024 when there will be an urgent need to remove Saddam from power.  Whether there is actually an invasion seems irrelevant.  Beating the war drums seems adequate to rallie the electorate.  I trust everyone will  be flying flags on both sides of their SUV's.

    RAY HARRIS

17:03 -- REVOLUTION = EVOLUTION Democracy Now! BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY
    17:07 --

The charge is now to progressives to become the creative opposition.  They have no excuse. The Republicans "don't play well with others" and will be exposed by their over-reaching and inability to deliver.  This is a disaster but also an opportunity.
